THE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT AND ENERGY OF APPROVED THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT (EIA) FOR THE ONSHORE SECTION OF THE POSEIDON PIPELINE IN GREECE

The Decision for the Approval of the Environmental Terms of the Onshore Section of the natural gas Poseidon Pipeline, was issued by the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Greece.

The decision, which is in full compliance with EU and Greek legislation, concerns the c. 760 km pipeline route from Kipi, at the Turkish- Greek border, to Florovouni, on Greece’s Ionian coast, through which it will cross the following 14 regional units: , Rodopi, , , , , , , , , , , , .

The approval of this milestone comes after extensive engagement with all concerned parties, including discussions with local communities and close cooperation with the competent national and regional authorities.

Thanks to the transparent process put in place by IGI Poseidon, and to the effective cooperation between Greek, Italian and international experts, who prepared the Environmental Impact Assessment, that was submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Energy, it was possible to reach the Decision efficiently.

Thanks to this achievement and with the amendment of the Approval of Environmental Terms of the Offshore Section, signed by the Ministry of Environment and Energy on 7th June 2019, the whole route to Italy, consisting in an onshore and offshore sections, is consolidated.
