Gozo, which is a three hilled island, is greener and more picturesque than Malta. During the tour you will visit The National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta’ Pinu which is a Roman Catholic minor basilica and national shrine located 700 metres from the village of Gharb. The basilica is located on the edge of a cliff in open countryside which allows visitors to enjoy beautiful views of the area. You will then visit The Azure Window, a natural arch featuring a table-like rock over the sea. It is situated near two other famous landmarks – The Inland Sea & Dwejra Bay. A visit to the Crafts Centre is a must. There you will see stone works, marble, traditional food, local lace and many other items. This is the perfect place where you can buy a souvenir which will remind you of Gozo. You will then visit Victoria which is the capital of Gozo. Victoria is the name given in 1897 by the British government on the occasion of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, at the request of the Bishop of Malta, Mons. Sir Pietro Pace. However Gozitans still often refer to it by its old name, Rabat. The area around Victoria, situated on a hill near the centre of the island has been settled since Neolithic times. In the centre of Victoria lies The Cittadella, a historic fortified city. The Cittadella also called at The Citadel, is on Malta’s tentative list of future World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, who describes it as a small fortified town. An old prison is located within the city, as are the Courts of Justice. After this visit you will stop for lunch in a restaurant in Rabat. Finally you will drive to Mgarr Port via Qala Belvedere where Pick-up time breathtaking scenes can be enjoyed. You will then have a short ferry crossing back to Malta and will be dropped-off at your hotel. During the tour you will drive past Cospicua, a double-fortified harbour city and the largest of the three. It was also given a title as Citta’ Cottonera, but erroneously the title is now used to define the whole region. You will then arrive in Vittoriosa. Vittoriosa is ideally situated for safe anchorage and over time it has developed a very long history with maritime, mercantile and military activities. Prior to the establishment of Valletta as capital and main city of Malta, military powers that wanted to rule the Maltese islands would need to obtain control of Vittoriosa due to its significant position in the Grand Harbour. The third city Senglea is also called Civitas Invicta because it managed to resist the Ottoman invasion at the Great Siege of 1565. The name Senglea was given by the grandmaster who built it, Claude De La Sengle. The island on which Senglea lies was joined by a land bridge to Cospicua during the time of the Knights of St. John and as a result, it became peninsular in shape. During this tour you will walk through the various narrow streets shaded by many historic churches and buildings. You will then drive to the Marsovin Cellars in Marsa. The wine tasting tour commences with a historical introduction amongst original artefacts, followed by an explanation about the process of how the locally grown grapes are pressed, fermented and eventually transformed into wine. A walk through the 400-year-old ‘Ageing Pick-up time Cellars’ is an authentic and true piece of Maltese heritage. In April 2021, 1,430 promise of sale agreements relating to residential property were registered, an increase of 1,161 agreements over the same period last year. Residential Property Transactions: April 2021 Cut-off date: Final Deeds of Sale 4 May 2021 In April 2021, the number of fi nal deeds of sale relating to residential property amounted to 1,130, an increase of 540 deeds when compared to those registered a year earlier (Table 1). The value of these deeds totalled €228.4 million, 91.6 per cent higher than the corresponding value recorded in April 2020 (Table 2). With regard to the region the property is situated in, the highest numbers of fi nal deeds of sale were recorded in the two regions of Mellieħa and St Paul’s Bay, and Ħaż-Żabbar, Xgħajra, Żejtun, Birżebbuġa, Marsaskala and Marsaxlokk, at 150 and 143 respectively. The lowest numbers of deeds were noted in the region of Cottonera, and the region of Mdina, Ħad-Dingli, Rabat, Mtarfa and Mġarr. In these regions, 13 and 32 deeds respectively were recorded (Table 3). Chart 1. Keywords: Lemna minuta, valleys, watercourses, alien species, invasive species, flora of Malta INTRODUCTION Lemna minuta Kunth (synonyms: L. minuscula Heter ; L. minima Phil ex Hegelm) commonly known as Least Duckweed, is native to the eastern area of North America, western coasts of Mexico and stretches in temprate zones in Central and South America (Mesterházy et al., 2007). It was introduced into Europe in the last third of the 20th Century where, soon after, it had become naturalised in several European countries. It was first recorded in Europe erroneously as L. valdiviana from Biarritz, South West of France in 1965 and then as L. minuscula from Cambridge, UK in 1977 (Landolt, 1979 cited in Lacey, 2003). Today, 45 years after its first published occurrence, L. minuta is widespread throughout Europe and it is recorded from France, England, Belgium, Germany, (GRIN; GBIF), Switzerland, Ukraine (GRIN), Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden (GBIF), Ireland (Lacey, 2003), Hungary (Mesterházy et al., 2007), Slovakia (Feráková & Onderíková, 1998), Romania (Ciocârlan, 2000), Greece (Landolt, 1986), Austria (Fischer et al., 2005) and Italy (Desfayes, 1993 cited in Iamonico et al., 2010 ; Conti et al., 2005).

    18 – The Three Cities The Three Cities are Vittoriosa/Birgu, Cospicua/Bormla and Senglea/L’Isla. Most of the Three Cities was badly bombed, much of its three parts destroyed, during the Second World War. Some inkling of what the area went through is contained in Chapter 15. Much earlier, it had been bombarded during the Great Siege of 1565, as described in Chapter 5, which also tells how Birgu grew from a village to the vibrant city of the Order of the Knights of St John following their arrival in 1530. You cannot travel to the other side of the Grand Harbour without bearing those events in mind. And yet, almost miraculously, the Three Cities have been given a new lease of life, partly due to European Union funding. You would really be missing out not to go. Most of the sites concerning women are in Vittoriosa/Birgu. From the Upper Barracca Gardens of Valletta you get a marvellous view of the Three Cities, and I think the nicest way to get there is to take the lift down from the corner of the gardens to the waterfront and cross the road to the old Customs House behind which is the landing place for the regular passenger ferry which carries you across the Grand Harbour. Ferries go at a quarter to and a quarter past the hour, and return on the hour and the half hour. That is the way we went. Guide books suggest how you make the journey by car or bus. If you are taking the south tour on the Hop-On Hop-Off bus, you could hop off at the Vittoriosa waterfront (and then hop on a later one).

A playful saltimbanco and histrionic character, he creates fun and involves onlookers of all ages, Fabio never fails to amaze his audiences with high level circus skills and comedy acts, improvised dialogue plays and rhymes, poetry and rigmaroles. Fabio is an able juggler, acrobat, fakir and the way he plays with fi re makes him a real showman.
