His passing yardage and total offense (408 yard) were both the highest by a Bulldog since the 2007 season finale (All-AmericanTed Schlafke with 350 and 495 yards, respectively at St. Cloud State). Bauer completed 20 of 31 passes on the day and his two third-quarter touchdown tosses helped UMD seal its 14th consecutive regular season win. Bauer also led both teams in rushing with 82 yards on 13 carries and scored UMD’s first touchdown of the afternoon. His 408 yards of total offense were the fifth-highest single-season total in program history while his 326 passing yards ranked 1th.1 Bauer is now 17-2 as a starter since taking over that role at the start of last season. His four sacks combined for a loss of 18 yards as he now has 12 quarterback sacks on the season, just 1.5 sacks behind Steve Connelly for the most sacks in a season by a Maverick. With its win over Winona State, the Mavericks have now won 28-straight NSIC games and 14-straight road games. A magazine for alumni and friends SPRING/SUMMER 2013 WIZARD with a PURPOSE www.BemidjiState.edu | 1 Moses Tsang achieves in finance while Pro TecTing na Ture PRESIDENT R. HANSON PresidenT’s Message Welcome to BSU’s biannual magazine – outstanding as ever, and now with a new name, Bemidji State University. The former name, Horizons, had been in place for many years, but it was time this important publication had a clearer connection to the institution. Once you’re done reading about the people and progress that make us all so proud, I hope you will give your copy an honored place on your coffee table at home or at work. As our 2013 Commencement ceremony approaches, how fitting that the cover story for this spring/summer edition features Moses Tsang. We are thrilled he will be in Bemidji to receive an honorary doctorate in recognition of his accomplishments through both career and service. I am also pleased to announce that another outstand- ing alum, Marine Corps Lieutenant General Thomas D. Waldhauser, will be honored as our Distinguished Minnesotan and deliver the keynote address. These pages are filled with evidence of the enormous difference Bemidji State makes every day, especially through our wonderful students and graduates, who achieve, lead and serve in so many ways. You will read about the rapid expansion of our international studies programs under the leadership of Provost Dr. Martin Tadlock, meet several more of our “Students to Watch,” catch up on university news and learn more about the lives of such impressive alums as Bill Colter, Rita Albrecht and Peggy and Sam Johnson.

  • Fall/Winter 2017 Edition of Bemidji State University Magazine
A magazine for alumni and friends FALL/WINTER 2017 FULFILLING THE UNIVERSITY'S VALUE OF ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP www.BemidjiState.edu | 1 PRESIDENT FAITH C. HENSRUD We have once again focused our magazine cover story on one of Bemidji State University’s fundamental values — its deep commitment to environmental stewardship through education and action. In the spring/summer 2017 edition, we examined BSU's growing emphasis on serving American Indian students and tribal communities, which is an expression of our values of multicultural understanding and civic engagement. These reports are timely as we approach Bemidji State’s centennial, set to begin in April with the 100th anniversary of the university’s groundbreaking as Bemidji Normal School. Our core values were essential to development of BSU’s new strategic plan for 2018-2023, which is now underway. The plan emerges from a distinct identity to be found in our north woods location, caring community, transformative learning and active engagement with the wider world. This publication lets us highlight some of the many ways our faculty and staff, students and graduates exemplify that identity. For example, an 80th anniversary choir concert during this year’s Homecoming celebration expressed the bond of community within our vocal music program. Likewise, the power of learning is evidenced by our graduates’ career success and their efforts to make the world a better place. And, as always, we are grateful for the generosity of donors whose investment enables us to continue the work of teaching, learning and service that began nearly a century ago. The 2017-18 annual report of the BSU Alumni & Foundation details that support, which we will never take for granted.
