Papi Reddy Deacons: Dear Brothers and Sisters Thomas Fuhrmann Our Scripture lessons for today have one common, encouraging theme: No Craig Voldberg matter what happens in our lives, the risen Jesus is always with us. God always is near to those who seek Him and who want to live in His presence, doing His will. Douglas Sorenson (retired) The Emmaus incident is the story of a God who will not abandon us when we are Jerome Drahos (retired) hurt and disappointed. As Francis Thompson rightly put it, He isTheHound of Heavenwho relentlessly follows us when we try to escape from His love. Cluster Information: The message of 3rd Sunday of Easter Scripture readings is that the followers of 611 First Street South Jesus are to maintain contact with their risen Lord through prayer, the Eucharist, Ladysmith, WI 54848 and the Bible. The readings also remind us that our belief in Jesus’ presence in the consecrated Bread and Wine should help us to understand better his presence in the Bible. Putting the two appearances together, it is clear that the risen Jesus wants Phone: (715) 5323051 Peter to act as spokesman for him and that the faithful who seek to follow Jesus Fax: (715) 6091059 should seek his company in the Eucharist, in prayer, and in the Bible under the direction of Peter and his successors. Office Hours: The first reading, from Acts, is taken from the beginning of Peter’s first public 8:00 am N 4:00 pm Monday Thursday proclamation about Jesus and tells us how God raised Jesus from death, thus 9:00 am N 4:00 pm Friday fulfilling the Messianic prophecies about the promised descendant of David. In the second reading, Peter exhorts the early Christians to place their Faith and Hope in Secretary: Tamara Richardson God Who has saved them through the precious Blood of His Son and who has Email: [email protected] raised Jesus from the dead. The Emmaus incident described in today’s Gospel shows us a God who will not abandon us when we are hurt and disappointed. Messages:1) Jesus meets us Bookkeeper: Eileen Swaenepoel on our Emmaus Road. The risen Lord meets us on the road to our Emmaus, both Email: [email protected] in the ordinary experiences and in the places to which we retreat when life is too much for us. We, too, havehopesand dreams about better Faith Formation: Linda Stock health, healing, financial security andbetter family relationships. These often Email: [email protected] shatter. The story promises us, however, that Jesus will come to us in unfamiliar guises to support and strengthen us when we least expect the risen Lord. Emmaus Our Lady of Sorrows School moments cometo us when we meet the risen Christ on our life’s journey through Phone: (715) 5323232 rough times. 2) We meet Jesus on a daily basis in our life’s journey. The Church Principal: Megan Dieckman instructs us to hear Jesus on a daily basis through prayer, the Bible, through our Secretary: Margie Gerber experience Jesus as we participate in the Eucharistic celebration. When we meet [email protected] Jesus in the Eucharist and through the Word of God, we commune with him in prayer, and thus renew our relationship of mutual loving service. 3) Do our hearts burn when we listen to the risen Lord in the Bible?Christ comes to us most clearly in the Word. Vatican II (Dei Verbum21) tells us that Jesus is to be equally venerated in the Eucharist and in the Bible. Therefore, we need to study the Bible, Rusk County Catholic Community learn the Bible, pray with the Bible, memorize the Bible, meditate on the word of God with burning zeal, and practice what the Bible teaches. May God bless you during these difficult times. @RuskCatholic Cluster Events Weekly Offerings
