Once again, it has been a very successful season both on and off the park. With 44 teams, the competition was keen across all grades once again. Congratulations to the minor premiers for their consistency across the season, and to the major premiers for their efforts in the finals. My thanks also to our. Patron, Mr Harry Solomons, and the South Sydney Junior Rugby League Football Club, for their support of the Association. The Association is in a sound financial position, as shown in the audited accounts contained within this Annual Report. This means that the Association is able to expand and improve the status of Park cricket in the Eastern suburbs over the next year. This would not be possible without the contributions made to cricket by the Board, and its volunteer members, in order for the more than 800 players to get on the park and play each weekend. Thank you, as a Board you have made my job a pleasure. And finally, thank you to each of the member clubs, their administrators, and finally, all the players of each and every team — you are what park cricket is really all about... Yours in cricket Stephen Silcock Secretary 6 President's Report Ladies and Gentlemen: It has been II years since the Moore Park, South Sydney and Catholic Cricket Associations combined to form our current Moore Park &South East Cricket Association. The 2005-2006 season saw 44 teams register with two new sides in Edgemasters and Pelicans. A warm welcome to both these new clubs and I hope they enjoy many seasons of competitive cricket in our Association. My congratulations to the Premiership, Minor Premiership, Club Champions and individual award winners on their success in 2005-2006. In particular Rex Dolphins, CloveIly RSL and Pelicans who were not only Premiership winners but also minor Premiers in their respective grades. It has not been for a number of years that 3 out of 6 grades have achieved this feat, again well done all! Success was enjoyed on the Representative front with all representative games recorded as victories. It was particularly pleasing to win again the A.T. Ray trophy, a trophy we have never lost to the Sydney Morning Competition in our annual match against this side. This year we traveled to Bathurst and for the first time since this annual fixture was inaugurated some 5 years ago the home side (Bathurst) lost. My congratulations to the representative squad on a job well done, not only on the field but off the field, you are all a credit to the Association. My thanks to our captains Nick Carter and John Jakas, Manager Bill Glacken , umpire Gary Fulford and our scorer Marie Fulford who all played vital roles in our success on the rep front. This year saw the first Twenty20 competition run at park level by an Association affiliated to the NSWDCA. This competition was put together and run by our Vice President Dave Power. My congratulations to Dave, as he put his vision of a 20/20 competition into a successful reality. I am sure all who played would agree it was a very worthwhile venture. My thanks again to Dave well done. For an Association to be successful, it needs support. I would like to thank a number of people for their support in season 2005-2006-: Mr. Harry Solomons, Managing Director Kingsgrove Sports. Harry is our Patron and long time supporter of our Association. My thanks to Harry for his generous donations throughout the year and I look forward to working with Harry for many • seasons to come. I urge all clubs to visit Harry's store in Kinsgrove and I am sure you will be well looked after. Thanks again Harry. South Sydney Juniors Club. Not only do we get a great deal for our presentation evening but the club also financially contributes to ground costs each year. To the 7 Board of South's Juniors my thanks for your continued support and the Association looks forward to continuing our relationship for many years to come. Kensington War Memorial RSL. Thank you to the Board for the use of the club for delegates and Board meetings. The club has become our base for meetings and we are truly grateful to be allowed the use of the various meeting rooms. Thank you also for the trophy cabinet that houses our perpetual trophies. Centennial Park Trust, Botany Council, Randwick Council. Our thanks to these bodies who provide and maintain our grounds each week. A thank you to Ed Neylan who arranged the use of Tempe for part of the season to alleviate some early season shortage of grounds. The MPSECA Board. An Association does not and cannot function without the dedicated group of volunteers that make up your Board. My thanks to each and everyone on the Board for not only their time but their contribution in the decision making process. A special thanks to Vice President Dave Power who this year took on additional responsibilities. Unfortunately our Secretary Tim Booth resigned part way through the season. My thanks to Tim for his efforts this year and in past years he has been on the Board. A thank you to Stephen Silcock, who stepped into the role as Secretary and did a fine job. Umpires. My thanks to the umpires who each Saturday control our fixtures. I look forward to seeing more umpires next season as a result of new courses the DCA will be running.

RHODESIA RAILWAYS MOVES.WITH THE TIMES 4150 THOMAS ME1KLE, 1862-1939 The founder of the Meikle Organisation sailed from Scotland with his parents in 1869. The family settled in Natal where Thomas and his brothers John and Stewart gained their first farming ex perience. In 1892 the three brothers set off for Rhodesia with eight ox- wagons. Three months later they had completed the 700 mile trek to Fort Victoria. Here they opened a store made of whisky cases and roofed over with the tarpaulins that had covered their wagons. Progress was at first slow, nevertheless, branches were opened in Salisbury in 1893, Bulawayo and Gwelo in 1894, and in Umtali in 1897. From these small beginnings a vast network of stores, hotels, farms, mines and auxilliary undertakings was built up. These ventures culminated in the formation of the Thomas Meikle Trust and Investment Company in 1933. The success of these many enterprises was mainly due to Thomas Meikle's foresight and his business acumen, coupled with his ability to judge character and gather around him a loyal and efficient staff. His great pioneering spirit lives on: today the Meikle Organisation is still playing an important part in the development of Rhodesia. THOMAS MEIKLE TRUST AND INVESTMENT CO.
