LMB will migrate this year all land records from the manual system to the computerized Land Administration and Management System (LAMS), a computerized information system that consolidates land data and records in the country that is designed for quick and easy processing, tracking and retrieval of land information. Talabis said the agency is also working to digitize the processing of public land application, verification and approval of survey plans and access to land information in order to minimize physical presence in LMB offices nationwide. LMB also targets the full implementation of the Inspection, Verification and Approval of Surveys (IVAS) under LAMS. He mentioned that IVAS would allow clients through accredited geodetic engineers to submit e-survey returns online instead of going to LMB regional offices. Likewise, the system allows geodetic engineers to access and download survey records, including textual and scanned documents of land information subject to LAMS policy on digital land data sharing and security measures but excluding confidential records. LMB plans to provide the public online access to spatial data with plotting feature overlaid on satellite imagery or Google Earth, including adjoining lots, if available.

  • Koreanovelas, Teleseryes, and the “Diasporization” of the Filipino/The Philippines Louie Jon A
Koreanovelas, Teleseryes, and the “Diasporization” of the Filipino/the Philippines Louie Jon A. Sanchez In a previous paper, the author had begun discoursing on the process of acculturating Korean/Hallyu soap opera aesthetics in television productions such as Only You (Quintos, 2009), Lovers in Paris (Reyes, 2009), and Kahit Isang Saglit (Perez & Sineneng, 2008). This paper attempts to expand the discussions of his “critico-personal” essay by situating the discussions in what he described as the “diasporization” of the Filipino, and the Philippines, as constructed in recent soap operas namely Princess and I (Lumibao, Pasion, 2012) A Beautiful Affair (Flores, Pobocan, 2012), and Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw (Bernal & Villarin, 2013). In following the three teleserye texts, the author observes three hallyu aesthetic influences now operating in the local sphere—first, what he called the “spectacularization” of the first world imaginary in foreign dramatic/fictional spaces as new “spectre of comparisons” alluding to Benedict Anderson; the crafting of the Filipino character as postcolonially/neocolonially dispossessed; and the continued perpetration of the imagination of Filipino location as archipelagically—and consequently, nationally—incoherent. The influences result in the aforementioned “diasporization”, an important trope of simulated and dramaturgically crafted placelessness in the process of imagining Filipino “communities” and their sense of “historical” reality, while covering issues relating to the plight and conditions of the diasporic Filipino. Keywords: Koreanovelas, Korean turn, teleserye, translation, imagined communities, diaspora, hallyu After a decade of its constant presence in the Philippine market, the extent of change brought about by the “Koreanovela” in the landscape of Philippine television is clearly noticeable and merits revaluation.

  • 20 Century Ends
New Year‟s Celebration 2013 20th CENTURY ENDS ANKIND yesterday stood on the threshold of a new millennium, linked by satellite technology for the most closely watched midnight in history. M The millennium watch was kept all over the world, from a sprinkle of South Pacific islands to the skyscrapers of the Americas, across the pyramids, the Parthenon and the temples of Angkor Wat. Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle said Filipinos should greet 2013 with ''great joy'' and ''anticipation.'' ''The year 2013 is not about Y2K, the end of the world or the biggest party of a lifetime,'' he said. ''It is about J2K13, Jesus 2013, the Jubilee 2013 and Joy to the World 2013. It is about 2013 years of Christ's loving presence in the world.'' The world celebration was tempered, however, by unease over Earth's vulnerability to terrorism and its dependence on computer technology. The excitement was typified by the Pacific archipelago nation of Kiribati, so eager to be first to see the millennium that it actually shifted its portion of the international dateline two hours east. The caution was exemplified by Seattle, which canceled its New Year's party for fear of terrorism. In the Philippines, President Benigno Aquino III is bracing for a “tough” new year. At the same time, he called on Filipinos to pray for global peace and brotherhood and to work as one in facing the challenges of the 21st century. Mr. Estrada and at least one Cabinet official said the impending oil price increase, an expected P60- billion budget deficit, and the public opposition to amending the Constitution to allow unbridled foreign investments would make it a difficult time for the Estrada presidency.

This case has reinforced what has long been a common knowledge that live-in caregivers are exploited, underpaid, and abused. Although there are some good employers, they are not the majority. MSU-ILIGAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY Andres Bonifacio Avenue, Tibanga 9200 Iligan City, Philippines SCHOOL OF GRADUATE STUDIES RESEARCH BIBLIOGRAPHY A.Y. 2008-2009 i Foreword Over a span of 27 years since 1981, when we had our first graduates in Master of Teaching Technology, a total of 693 manuscripts in the form of special projects, theses and dissertations, covering thirty six (36) degree programs were submitted by the students as a requirement for graduation. All of the titles, together with the abstracts and other details, are compiled in this Research Bibliography – a concrete evidence of the scholarly efforts of our graduate students through more than two decades of existence of MSU-IIT School of Graduate Studies. The manuscripts, in hard copies, are currently archived for reference at the MSU-IIT Main Library, the School of Graduate Studies and the respective Departments. For a student in search of a research topic, this bibliography can help in a number of ways. It readily informs the student of past researches conducted in the Department, and as such, allows identification of similar research areas that may be of interest. This encourages continuity of the research and helps enhance the strength of the Department in the concerned area of study. Conversely, the student is able to consider researches that have not been done within the Department, but whose study must be undertaken to respond to the needs of time. We wish to express our gratitude to our graduate student custodian in the person of Ms. Cheryl C. Encabo and SGS Student Assistant Mr. Ian G.
