Art Tours Committee FALLINGWATER and PITTSBURGH Oct. 15~17: Early Autumn Tour for Architecture and Art Lovers This not-to-be missed trip takes us to Frank Lloyd Wright's famous Fallingwater, possibly the most famous private home in America. We'll overnight on the 15th nearby at the fabulous Nemacolin Woodlands Resort with time to enjoy its art collection and partake (on your own) in their renowned spa. Lunch and tour the next day at Wright's Kentuck Knob, also designed to be a private home, then head to the city to sample the urban art scene of Pittsburgh. A private tour of The Pittsburgh Glass Center will include a glass-blowing demonstration and a wine reception. We will overnight on the 16th at the historic, luxury hotel Omni William Penn, which has recently been totally renovated. At your leisure venture across the street to the Carlton Restaurant for an all-inclusive dinner and a glass of great wine from their collection. Our last day will take us to the Carnegie Museum of Art. A docent will lead us through the main collection, then we can view the newly opened Carnegie International Exhibition at our own pace. This is among the leading exhibits, worldwide, of Contemporary Art, and is brought to the public once every 3 to 5 years. Lunch on your own in the cafe. Our bus will be ready to depart for home at 1:30. • This trip requires a large amount of walking. There are no places to sit while on tour in Falling water and Kentuck Knob. Please wear good walking shoes. • We travel by luxury motor coach, leaving the MAG Goodman St. parking lot at 7:45 am Tuesday, Oct. 15th, and returning around dinner time on Thurs, Oct. 17th. • Questions? Wright believed in designing structures which were in harmony with humanity and its environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. This philosophy was best exemplified by his design for Fallingwater (1935), which has been called "the best all-time work of American architecture".[1] Wright was a leader of the Prairie School movement of architecture and developed the concept of the Usonian home, his unique vision for urban planning in the United States.
