PROGRAM Peking Dreams EKING (known today as Beijing), the capital of the People’s Republic of China, is a Pfamous historical and cultural city with a history spanning 1,000 years and a wealth of precious Chinese cultural heritage, including the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, and the Temple of Heaven. Acrobatic art, Chinese circus, and Peking opera are Chinese cultural treasures and are beloved among the people of Peking. These art forms combine music, acrobatics, performance, mime, and dance and share many similarities with Western culture. Foreign tourists walking along the streets or strolling through the parks of Peking can often hear natives sing beautiful Peking opera, see them play diabolo or perform other acrobatics. Peking Dreams , incorporating elements of acrobatics, Chinese circus, and Peking opera, invites audiences into an artistic world full of history and wonder. The actors’ flawless performance, colorful costumes, and elaborate makeup will astound audiences with visual and aural treats. Gosselin1 Abstract The purpose of this study was to measure the dynamic tension force between the apparatus and the hanging equipment of five aerial circus apparatus and to recommend minimal loading requirements in rigging and design. Forces generated by different acrobatic movements were measured and synchronized with video recordings. Sixteen students of the National Circus School of Montreal´ (Canada) participated in the study. Maximal forces were analysed and characterized with respect to the discipline, the type of movement and the schooling level of the student. The maximal force measured was 5.3 kN performed in the discipline of aerial straps, equivalent to 7.9 times the bodyweight of the performer. A minimal breaking strength of 22 kN for the hanging point and all the equipment holding the rig is recommended. A minimal breaking strength of 22 kN for straps, 17 kN for rope, and 12 kN for silk, aerial hoop and dance trapeze is recommended. Mapping Circus and Street Art in Southeast Europe INTRODUCTION
MAPPING CIRCUS AND STREET ART IN SOUTHEAST EUROPE INTRODUCTION For the circus in the Balkans, it can be said to be a spontaneous growth plant that builds its way through a series of obstacles, side-tracks, and aggravating circumstances. Over the past years of persistent work and action, the plant called the circus has succeeded in roots taking and growing in a tree that is expanding its branches. Through the years, with the development of Cirkobalkana festival, contemporary circus festival that is focused on representing regional circus scene from Balkans, artists, groups and circus organizations started to collaborate more and more. It was obvious that if we are working together, it helps us to develop new ideas and shows, to bring foreign educators in the region, international high-quality shows and also to position contemporary circus and street art in national cultural policies. In 2018 we started the first regional platform, CPuP - Circus on the move and we got the grant from Foundation Kultura nova which gave us the wind in our sails. Through various activities (co-production of performances, residency programs, education and quest performances), program cooperation is developed as well as a greater flow of cultural work in the region. The educational program strengthens the capacity of member organizations; enable professional training of artists and artist’s mobility in the field of regional contemporary art. One of the activities was mapping circus organization in the region to collect more information about organizations, spaces and performers (individuals/companies) that are working in the circus or street performing art in the Balkan Region. -

ROVING AND INSTALLATION CIRQUE ENTERTAINMENT HAND BALANCE AND CONTORTION One of our most common performance installations is Hand Balance Contortion. Beautiful and graceful this incredible art is mastered by very few, highly skilled performers. Roving or installation spots are only possible for 30 mins at a time and are priced at $950+gst per performer. ADAGIO AND ACROBATICS Adagio, hand to hand, balance acrobatics and trio acro are all ways to describe the art of balancing people on people. Usually performed as a couple this is the same as hand balance contortion in that it’s only possible for 30 minute stints. Roving or installation can be performed in any style and we’re always happy to incorporate your events theme or branding into the theatrics around the skill. Performers are valued at $950+gst per 30 minute slot. MANIPULATION SKILLS Manipulation skills include; Hula Hoops, Juggling, Cigar boxes, Diabolo, Chin Balancing, Poi Twirling, Plate Spinning and Crystal Ball. As a roving or installation act these are fun and lively, bringing some nice speedy movement to the room. All are priced by the ‘performance hour’ which includes 15 minutes break and range between $400+gst and $700+gst depending on the performer and the skill. Some performers are capable of character work and audience interaction. Working these skills in synchronisation with multiple performers is a super cool look. Most of these skills can be performed with LED props. EQUILIBRISTICS aka balance skills The art of balancing on things takes many long hours of dedication to achieve even the most basic result. -

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION DESCRIPTION SELECTION PROCESS for the PROFESSIONAL TRAINING COURSE at NATIONAL CIRCUS SCHOOL BRAZIL - 2019/2021 [the full text is only available in Portuguese] OBJECT The present selection process aims to perform the selection of 60 (sixty) new students for the technical course in circus at the National Circus School/Arts National Foundation, located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, which will receive scholarship during the period of 22 (twenty-two) consecutive months of course (August-June 2019-2021). The expected result is to promote high quality training in Circus Arts at National Circus School/Funarte. ELIGIBILITY Naturalized citizens and foreigners are able to participate in the selection process if they are aged 18 years or over (considered to be the date of registration). They also must have completed high school or equivalent until the date of the enrolment in the course, being now identified as "candidates". ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP The purpose of the scholarship is to provide conditions for which students can keep their basic necessities of accommodation, food and health in Rio de Janeiro during the entire period of the technical course in circus art. The National Circus School/Funarte will allocate to the realization of the project, 60 (sixty) individual grants of $57,500.000 BRL (fifty-seven thousand and fifty hundred Brazil Real) to successful candidates. Payment of the scholarship will be made in 22 (twenty-two) installments, deposited directly into the bank account of the successful candidates. The bank account shall be exclusively on behalf of the applicant approved, not being accepted joint accounts or third parties.
