August 22, 2019 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 400 Years in Manhattan Brings New York City History to the Stage Multimedia monologue to be seen in 2019 United Solo Theatre Festival 400yearsinmanhattan.com Publicity images are available for download at 400yearsinmanhattan.com NEW YORK — In 400 Years in Manhattan, “recovering tour guide” Noah Diamond tells the story of the island of Manhattan, accompanied by an expansive multimedia presentation. Diamond, best known for his performance as Groucho Marx in the Off Broadway revival of I’ll Say She Is, made his New York debut on a double-decker tour bus. “That was my day job for years,” he says, “and I always thought: What I’m really doing here is writing a show.” The result of that thought, 400 Years in Manhattan, alternates between tales of Diamond’s experiences as a New York City tour guide, and the epic saga of the city itself. An earlier version of the show was seen in a workshop production at HERE Arts Center in 2007. Amanda Sisk, director and producer of 400 Years in Manhattan as well as I’ll Say She Is, has been developing this material with Diamond since the work’s inception. As in their earlier collaboration on the Nero Fiddled political musicals, the team finds narrative arcs in episodic storytelling—a special feat in the case of 400 Years in Manhattan, a one-person play which encompasses four centuries of history. Diamond is the author of Love Marches On: A Saga of Broadway and Gimme a Thrill: The Story of I’ll Say She Is. -

Located on the 67th, 69th, and 70th floors of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the Top of the Rock Observation Deck reopened to the public in November 2005 after being closed for nearly 20 years. It provides a unique educational opportunity in the heart of New York City. To support the vital work of teachers and to encourage inquiry and exploration among students, Tishman Speyer is proud to present Top of the Rock Education Materials. In the Teacher Guide, you will find discussion questions, a suggested reading list, and detailed plans to help you make the most of your visit. The Student Activities section includes trip sheets and student sheets with activities that will enhance your students’ learning experiences at the Observation Deck. Landmarks Preservation Commission November 17, 1987; Designation List 196 LP-1333 FORTY-SIXTH STREET THEATER (originally Chanin's Forty-Sixth Street Theater), 226-236 West 46th Street, Manhattan. Built 1924; architect, Herbert J. Krapp. Landmark Site: Borough of Manhattan Tax Map Block 1017, Lot 48. On June 14 and 15, 1982, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing on the proposed designation as a Landmark of the Forty-Sixth Street Theater and the proposed designation of the related Landmark Site (Item No. 29). The hearing was continued to October 19, 1982. Both hearings had been duly advertised in accordance with the provisions of law. Eighty-one witnesses spoke or had statements read into the record in favor of designation. One witness spoke in opposition to designation. The owner, with his representatives, appeared at the hearing, and indicated that he had not formulated an opinion regarding designation. The Commission has received many letters and other expressions of support in favor of this designation. DESCRIPTION AND ANALYSIS The Forty-Sixth Street Theater survives today as one of the historic theaters that symbolize American theater for both New York and the nation. Built during the mid-1920s, the Forty-Sixth Street was among the half-dozen theaters constructed by the Chanin Organization, to the designs of Herbert J. Krapp, that typified the development of the Times Square/Broadway theater district. Founded by Irwin S. Chanin, the Chanin organization was a major construction company in New York. During the 1920s, Chanin branched out into the building of theaters, and helped create much of the ambience of the heart of the theater district. -

Midtown Manhattan businesses and property owners created GCP in the mid-1980s, first as a volunteer civic group charged with revitalizing — A. J. LIEBLING our Midtown neighborhood, and later as a formal corporation responsible for managing the Grand Central Business Improvement District. A non-profit organization, GCP operates under a renewable contract with the City of New York and is authorized to collect special assessment fees from commercial property owners to fund supplemental public services. The company also raises grants and solicits donations to support its mission. GCP was one of the first Business Improvement Districts in the United States, and today it is one of the largest in the world. Together with its public and private partners, GCP has been at the center of amazing changes, and continues to innovate for the future. For most people, a day in the neighborhood begins when commuters and shoppers arrive each morning. But for GCP, it starts much earlier, when our Sanitation staff fans out through the district, emptying trash receptacles, cleaning up litter, sweeping the sidewalks.
