JOHN and MARY STEPANIUK Ganges Disappointed To the Editor The following is an open letter to all, especially the Honourable Mini ster of Parks, Petto Canada's director of public relations and those few people who prevent us many from enjoying the seawalk. Greetings with all due respect! We are just two of very many, very disappointed people of all ages. Salt Spring Island people in general are very community-minded and proud of it as documented by the many beautification projects under way continuously. After a long period of trying, talking and waiting one more dream started to become a reality through the commencement of a seawalk. It was a true community project. Local businesses, private citizens and a generous grant from the provincial government gave the project a good start. It was a joy to see inexperienced young people get "hands-on ex perience" under the guidance of an expert. Everybody, especially the elderly who love walking to town, were ex cited at finally being able to do this trip in clean air, fresh salt air, without worrying about traffic, dust and ex haust fumes. Walking along the road, at the seaside, one has no protection and the road allowance is very nar row in places, some of which fills with water after every rain. Not yet completed, it was a wonderful gift to all! The tourists, many of them com ing by boat to Ganges, were im pressed to get their sea legs back to solid ground in a safe and enjoyable environment. The children could see how beautiful our shore line is and it instilled respect for the environment in them. The seawalk is not yet complete because we have some people in this community who for their own selfish reasons, block its progress. "What's in it for me?" is a very negative at titude which is only held by few but affects many!
