A GROUP of All Saints’ College students have won two awards for an educational maths app they developed as part of a nationwide competition. Team Girl Power — consisting of Juliet Gray, Sophia Clement, Aarya Khalate, Isabella Wallace and Penelope Duff — were the only WA winners at the 2020 Techgirls Competition. The girls, who ranged from years 3 to 6, claimed the WA Primary School Prize and the Jewella Award for their app Chick- en Maths. The app aims to make learning maths fun while allowing users to progress at an individual level. All Saints’ College Junior School ICT literacy teacher Brette Lockyer said the compe- tition encouraged young girls to push their boundaries and discover new skills. “While they worked cohesively, the students individually took charge of elements such as interface design, coding, video scripting, app testing and video editing,” Ms Lockyer said. The competition is run by not-for- profit organisation the Tech Girls Movement. It encourages girls to build confidence by engaging in STEM sub- jects, and pairs team with female men- tors working in the technology industry, who provide support and guidance.
