Rathod, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Surat and Mr.

Manojbhai Patel, Project Manager, KVSVS, Surat. The Sarpanch of Damka Village Mr. Tulsibhai Patel also present in this programme. KVK scientist guided to the farmers for pest and disease management in vegetables. In this programme, 23 farmers of choryasi block remained present.

December-2020 Organized the farmers training

Dr. Z. P. Patel, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and Dr. S. R. Chaudhary, Director of Research and Dean PG Studies, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Athwa farm, Surat on 7 th December, 2020. Dr. M. C. Patel, Research Scientist (Cotton) and Dr. B. K. Davda, Research

Scientist (Sorghum), NAU, Surat has also joined with them. All staff of KVK gave brief introduction of their duties. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor inquired about the new administrative building of KVK, Surat. He gave positive suggestion on different activities of KVK.

Hon. Vice Chancellor, NAU, Navsari Dr. Z. P. Patel chaired the ninth Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, NAU, Surat on 18 th December, 2020 to review the progress made by KVK during last year (1-1-2020 to 15-12-2020) and to discuss the future actioan plan for the next year (April-2021 to March-2022). Director of Research Dr.

S. R. Chaudhary, Director of Extension Education Dr. C. K. Timbadia and Joint Director of Agriculture Shri K. S. Patel grace the meeting. Other officials and progressive farmers of the district also remain present. Dr, Z. P. Patel appreciated the work done by KVK scientists and gave suggestions for further improvement in benefit of the farming community. He also visited the site of New Admin building of the KVK, Surat.

As honeybee plays a very important role to increase crop production in different crops. To promote apiculture along with agriculture, vocational training on Honeybee rearing organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat in collaboration with Horticulture Department, Surat from Januray 04-07, 2021. During this training programme 20 farmers from different talukas of

successfully participated. Practical as well as theoretical exposure to participants was given by Dr. S. K. Chawda, Scientist (Plant protection), Vinodbhai Nakum (Arpit Organic, Umbhel) and Shri. Bhagubhai Patel (Bee Keeper). During this training programme different activity of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat as well as role of honeybee in crop production was discussed by Dr. J. H. Rathod, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Surat. A different subsidiary scheme for bee keepers as well as role of honey bee in pollination was discussed by Shri. D. K. Padalia, Deputy Director Horticulture, Surat. Vocational training on nursery management of horticultural crops

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat organized vocational training on January 11- 13, 2021 at Village: Nani-Fokadi, Taluka: Umarpada, Dist: Surat. The vocational training conducted for nursery management of horticultural crops. In the three days training programme, KVK scientist guided to the farmers for raising the vegetables seedlings on bed and also trained about the pro-tray technology of vegetable seedling technology. Method demonstration was conducted for preparation of bed for seedling, sowing of seeds and caring of seedling for next 25 days. In this programme, 27 farmers of Umarpada block remained present.

Vocational training on value addition in agricultural produce

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat organized vocational training on January 11- 13, 2021 at Village: Nani-Fokadi of Umarpada block. The vocational training was organized on value addition in agricultural produce. In this three days training programmed KVK scientist Mrs. G. J. Bhimani guided to farm women for value

addition in agricultural produce and importance of different mari-masala. Different products viz., tuttifruti, jam, squash, sambharo etc. were prepared from papaya and demonstrated. During this training farm women were also trained for preparing different mari-masala namely tea masala, chat masala, pullav masala, garam masala, fruit masala etc. Three types of extension

An on campus training was organized at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat on January 13, 2021. Dr. R. K. Patel, Scientist guided to farmers on the subject of Integrated Pest and Disease Management in Paddy. In the programme, 22 participants of Bhensan village, Choryasi block remained present.

Sponsored training on scientific cultivation of cucurbits

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat and Reliance Foundation, Netrang jointly organized Sponsored training on January 22, 2021 at Village: Matherkui, Taluka: Mandvi, Dist: Surat. The Sponsored training conducted on scientific cultivation of cucurbits. The Area Manager of Reliance Foundation Ms. Avaniben Rawal and Project

Manager Mr. Pareshbhai remain present in the programme. KVK scientist guided to the farmers for cultivation of cucurbits (watermelon and muskmelon). Reliance Foundation distributed watermelon, muskmelon seedlings, Trichoderma and bio- fertilizers among farmers. In this programme 30 farmers of Mandvi block remained present.

Off campus training for SHG women group

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat organized off campus training on January 22, 2021 at Kalibel village of Mandvi block. The training conducted for SHG women group on role of women in agriculture and SHG management. KVK home scientist guided how to manage SHG and strengthening the

group. In this programme 26 SHG members remained present.

Off campus training on scientific cultivation of pulses

Front Line Demonstration of Greengram: GNM-6 (20 ha) and GNM-7 (10 ha) including Seed treatment, Integrated Nutrient Management and Integrated Disease Management were conducted in Mandvi, Mangrol and Umarpada taluka of Surat District. Training on Scientific cultivation of pulses was organized at village Parvat, Mandvi taluka on January 22, 2021. Total 36 ST farmers remained present in the programme. Village Sarpanch Shri. Sunil J. Chaudhari also remained present in the event. Mr. S. J. Trivedi, Scientist, KVK guided to the farmers.

Celebration of International Women Day

Krishi Vigyan Kenrda, Surat and ADANI foundation, Hajira jointly organized International Women Day and Mahila Shibir at village Bhatlai, taluka Choryasi on March 08, 2021. Various programme viz., recipes competition, stall exhibitions, progressive women felicitation and speech, Suposhan

Sangini Certificate awarded, lecture of experts were organized. Total 230 participants remained present.

Student’s training programme under RAWE

Students of Rai University, Ahmedabad joined training programme under RAWE at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat during March 03-18, 2021. Team of KVK scientists guided to them about different KVK activities. Students were actively participated in various activities viz., visit of cotton and sorghum farm, office, laboratory, museum of cotton varieties, method demonstration of various instruments. Students were also participated in the World Women Day at village Bhatlai, taluka Choryasi. All ten students completed training of mushroom cultivation.

Off Campus training Krishi Vigyan Kenrda, Surat organized off campus training on March 10, 2021 at FTC, . The training was organized on value addition in fruits and vegetable. KVK scientist Mrs. G. J. Bhimani guided to the farm women for value addition in mango and papaya. Extension literatures were distributed

among participants. Total 30 farm women from ten villages of Bardoli block remained present.

On Campus virtual training

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat organized on campus virtual training on growing technology of microgreens during March 17, 2021. Scientist of Horticulture delivered lecture on growing technology of Microgreens like, media preparation, selection of seed, place and season wise selection of Microgreens seeds. Various session viz., theory, method demonstration of planting media preparation, selection of container and sowing of summer season Microgreens. Total 31 participants remained present in the training programme.

World Water Day

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat celebrated the “World Water Day” on March 22, 2021 at Damka village of Choryasi block. The function was graced by Mrs. Vasantiben S. Patel, member of taluka panchayat, Choryasi and Mr. Tulsibhai Natvarbhai Patel, Sarpanch of village Damka, taluka Choryasi, district Surat. Mr. Manojbhai Patel, Project Manager, KVSVS and team of KVK scientists, Surat actively participated in the programme. Mr. S. J. Trivedi, I/c. Senior Scientist and Head focused on various KVK activities and importance of water for better productivity of crops. Team of KVK scientists viz., Dr. R. K. Patel, Mrs. G. J. Bhimani and Mrs. B. B. Panchal guided to farmers. All participants have taken oath for saving of water. Total 50 participants including farmers, farm women and extension officers remained present.

Celebration of Field Day of Pulses (Greengram)

Under National Food Security Mission (NFSM) scheme, 75 Front Line Demonstrations were given in different villages of Mandvi, Mangrol and Umarpada blocks of Surat district. A field day on Greengram var. GM-6, including Seed Treatment(ST), Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) & Integrated Pest and Disease Management (IPDM) aspects, organized at Village: Parvat, Block: Mandvi on April 03, 2021. Totally 25 tribal farmers enthusiastically participated in the event. They queried about new variety, Bio- fertilizers & Bio-pesticides. All queries were fulfil with satisfactory knowledge & practical based answers.

Celebration of Field Day of Oilseeds (Sesame)

Under National Mission on Oilseeds and Oilpalm (NMOOP) scheme, 50 FLDs were given in different villages of Mandvi, Mangrol and Umarpada blocks of Surat district. A field day on Sesame summer var. GT-5, including Seed Treatment (ST), Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) & Integrated Pest and Disease Management (IPDM) aspects, organized at Village: Uteva, Block: Mandvi on

April 03, 2021. Totally 23 male and 2 female tribal farmers enthusiastically participated in the field day celebration event. They asked us about new variety-GT-5, Bio-fertilizers viz., Rhizobium, PSB and Potash mobilizer & Bio- pesticides viz., Trichodermma and Pseudomonas. All questions were fulfil with satisfactory knowledge and Practical based reply.

Celebration of Field Day of Oilseeds (Groundnut)

Under National Mission on Oilseeds and Oilpalm (NMOOP) scheme, 50 FLDs were given in different villages of Mandvi, Mangrol and Umarpada blocks of Surat district. A field day on summer Groundnut var. GG-34, including Seed Treatment (ST) with ethereal was organized at Village: Panchamba, Block: Umarpada on April 05, 2021. Totally 22 (21 male and 1 female) tribal farmers enthusiastically participated in the field day celebration event. They asked us about new variety-GG-34 and its seed treatment, Queries were fulfil with satisfactory knowledge & Practical based answers.

Celebration of World Health Day Krishi Vigyan Kenrda, Surat organized off campus training on World Health Day on April 07, 2021 at Chudel, Taluka Mandvi, and Dist. Surat. The training was organized on low cost balance diet from locally available food stuff. In this training KVK scientist Mrs.. G. J. Bhimani guided to farm women for the theme of World Health Day "Building a fairer, healthier world". Total 23 participants successfully participated.

Janjagruti Programme (Webinar) on Jamin Suposhan and Sanraksan: “Dharti Meri Mata”

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Navsari Agricultural University, Surat () organized a Janjagruti Programme (webinar) on Jamin Suposhan and Sanraksan under the title “Dharti Meri Mata” on April 23, 2021. Nearly 125 farmers joined the webinar.

On this occasion, Dr. J. H. Rathod, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Surat focused on importance of soil in agriculture. Dr. C. K. Timbadia, Director of Extension Education, NAU, Navsari gave emphasis on sustainable and organic/natural farming. He also suggested farmers to avoid excess use of chemical fertilizers & pesticides and move toward organic farming. Mr. Prafulbhai Senjalia, expert of natural farming, Gujarat state delivered his valuable talk on SPNF Natural farming, organic farming and use of Bijamrut and Panchamrut for increasing population of aerobic bacteria as well as organic carbon in the soil. Mr. Pareshbhai Vyas, Chairman, Gram Vikas Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Gujarat worried about increasing area of in-fertile soil due to injudicious use of chemical fertilizers. He said that soil fertility and national development is not only the responsibility of farmers but it is of all person of the nation. Dr. Vallabhbhai Kathiria, Ex. Central Minister, focused on cow based farming and spread message for cultivation of non-poisonous foods and vegetables. Dr. Z. P. Patel, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, NAU, Navsari gave emphasis on sustainable agriculture incorporating the traditional knowledge of farmers and nature. He gave valuable suggestion for maintaining soil fertility.

Webinar on “Know Herbs Around You”

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat (Gujarat) organized a webinar on “Know Herbs Around You” on April 25, 2021. During this programme more than 450 participants from all over India participated through Google meet and other multimedia platforms. Dr. J. H. Rathod, Head, KVK, Surat delivered welcome address. Dr. S. K. Chawda, Scientist (Crop Protection) focused on the importance of medicinal plants as well as the importance of this awareness programme in present situation. Guest of Honour, Dr. C. K. Timbadia, Director of Extension Education, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari delivered his valuable speech and addressed participants to organize Vriksha Katha and Katha on Medicinal plants to increase awareness among peoples especially for new generation. During this programme most valuable and informative speech given by Dr. Minoo Parabia, Ex. Principal and Dean, Bioscience department, VNSGU, Surat. He elaborated identification and usage of near about 51 different plant species. He also discussed on home based remedies to cure human disease as well as how to boost up immune system through Ayurveda. He not only delivered his lecture but also gave probable solutions of participants problems related to human health

Survey, Research Experiment

Survey of major insect pests, diseases as well as status of parasite and predators in particular field (Research experiments) is conducted on April 29, 2021. Total 6 fields of mango and 2 fields of sapota in and Bardoli taluka are visited. During survey, problem of fruit borer in mango is found to be increasing in Kamrej as well as

in villages of Bardoli taluka. Survey is carried out along with Dr. C. J. Patel, Dr. H.V. Patel and Mr. Abhinav Patel.

Orientation Training for Newly Recruited Subject Matter Specialists of KVKs

The “Orientation Training for Newly Recruited Subject Matter Specialists of KVKs” was organized jointly by ATARI, Pune and AAU, Anand (Gujarat) during May 03-05, 2021. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat scientists viz., Dr. R. K. Patel, Scientist (Extension Education), Prof. S. J. Trivedi, Scientist (Agronomy) and Prof. B. B. Panchal, Scientist (Horticulture) attended three days orientation training programme.

Virtual webinar cum training

KVK, Surat organized virtual training on May 03, 2021 on virtual platform. The training was organized on “Drying and dehydration of fruits and vegetables”. In this training KVK scientist Prof. G. J. Bhimani guided to the women on importance of drying of

fruits and vegetables. Dr. Jilen Mayani, Assistant Professor, PHT, NAU, Navsari gave detailed information on dehydration methods and how to store them. At the end healthy discussion was carried out. In this webinar 107 participants remained present.

Webinar on kitchen/terrace gardening

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat organized a webinar on "Kitchen/Terrace gardening on May 06, 2021. During this programme total 143 persons were registered by Google form and 59 participants were actively participated in the training programme. Dr. J. H.

Rathod, Senior Scientist and Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, NAU, Surat gave introductory speech about KVK, Surat activities and terrace/ kitchen gardening. The Chief Guest, Dr. C. K. Timbadia, Director of Extension Education, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari guided about advantages of kitchen/terrace gardening especially during corona pandemic situation. He addressed the participants about KVK activities. Technical session was taken by Bhakti Panchal, Scientist (Horticulture), KVK, Surat. Theoretical and practical knowledge regarding terrace gardening was given by her. Mrs. Prafulaben Desai, Member of Board of Management, NAU,

Webinar on awareness programme on Jal Shakti Abhiyan and crop residue management

A webinar on awareness programme on Jal Shakti Abhiyan and crop residue management was organized by KVK, Surat on May 13, 2021. Dr. J. H. Rathod, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Surat welcomed all participants and aware

farmers about activities of KVK. He advised

farmers to stop over use of irrigation water in sugarcane. Crop Production Scientist Mr. S. J. Trivedi gave detailed presentation on above two topics of the webinar. He aware farmers about what farmers & city people can do for water conservation, rain water harvesting and reuse of water. He advised farmers to use drip, sprinkler and mulch in agriculture. He gave more emphasis on intensive a forestation, pond/khet talavdi,

construction of check dam and bori-bandh. He suggested sowing low water requiring & drought resistant crops like sorghum, bajra, nagli (millets) etc. He also gave presentation on crop residue management and described benefits of incorporation of crop residue instead of burning. Total 74 participants attended the webinar. Dr. R. K. Patel and Mr. Trivedi attended the question answer session and satisfied the farmers by proper answers. Dr. R. K. Patel, Scientist (Ext. Edu.) gave vote of thanks to all participants and team KVK.

Webinar on Adenium

As per participants demand of Surat city, webinar on Adenium is organized on May 15, 2021. During this workshop more than 450 participants from different parts of India successfully participated. Practical as well as theoretical session on different aspect was taken by one of group member and Adenium expert Mr. Yogeshbhai Patel. During this training care of Adenium during Summer and Monsoon was discussed by Dr. S. K. Chawda, Scientist, Crop Protection, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat. During entire session different important aspects e.g. grafting, pruning, maximum seed pod per plants, pest and diseases of Adenium were covered.

In-service training on scientific cultivation of paddy Virtual in-service training was given to CRP staff of Care India and some farmers on Scientific cultivation of paddy by Prof. S. J. Trivedi, Scientist (Crop Production) on May 18, 2021. Approximately 35 participants including 20 CRP staff of Care India remained present in the training. Dr. J. H. Rathod, Senior Scientist & Head welcomed all participants and said that this is most proper time for training of paddy. Prof. S.

J. Trivedi gave detailed presentation of scientific cultivation of irrigated transplanted paddy, rainfed transplanted paddy and drill paddy starting from selection of varieties to harvesting of crop. Question Answer session was nicely handled by the scientist. Prof. Trivedi also aware farmers about Jal Shakti Abhiyan and described how much water is important and it is becoming scare day to day. Farmer should conserve water in field and use it judiciously in agriculture. Mr. Jitendra Goyal & Jigyasha madam from Care India share vote of thanks to KVK Scientists, Senior Scientist & Head of KVK and all participants to make this nice training possible within a short time and at a proper time.

In-service training on Integrated Pest and Disease Management in Paddy

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat organized In-service training on May 18, 2021 with collaboration of Care India, NGO, Umarpada, Surat. The training was organized on virtual platform with subject of Integrated Pest and Disease Management in Paddy. Dr. J. H. Rathod, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Surat welcomed all participants in his introductory speech. Mr. Jitendra Goyal, Care India focused on importance of IPDM training just before paddy plantation. Dr. R. K. Patel, Scientist, KVK, Surat guided extension personals on different aspects of plant protection in paddy with film show viz., Identification of insect pests and diseases in paddy, nature of damage by insect pests in paddy and IPDM in paddy. Nineteen extension personals including CRP, village volunteers of Care India and nine farmers of Umarpada block of surat district were actively participated in the training programme. Total 35 participants remained present.

In-service training on scientific cultivation of vegetables

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat organized virtual In-service training on scientific cultivation of vegetables for CRP staff of Care India and some farmers on May 19, 2021. Dr. J. H. Rathod, Senior Scientist & Head welcomed all participants and advised them to start vegetable seedling nursery in their area. Prof. Bhakti Panchal gave detailed presentation of scientific cultivation of Brinjal, Tomato, Chiili, Okra and Cucurbits like, Bottle gourd, Bitter gourd, Pointed gourd, Tindola, etc. starting from preparation of soil to the harvesting of the crop. Prof. Sunil Trivedi, Scientist (Crop Production) also gave lecture on crops residue management. Approximately 35 participants including 20 CRP staff of Care India remained present in the training. Many participants asked questions that were solved by scientists. Mr. Jitendra Goyal from Care India shared a vote of thanks to all to make this nice training possible.

Celebration of World Bee Day

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat celebrated World Bee Day on May 20, 2021 to increase awareness among farmers regarding role of honey in Agriculture. Dr. J. H. Rathod, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Surat had advice famers to develop bee rearing as side business to get extra income with Agriculture. Dr. S. K. R. K. Patel, Scientist, KVK, Surat guided to participants about pest and diseases of honeybee it's management. The queries raised by participants were successfully replied by scientists. More than 35 participants successfully participated in the programme.

Survey of "Cyclone Tauktae" affected fields in villages of Kamrej taluka, Surat district

As per instruction from NAU and Govt. of Gujarat, A team consisting of Dr. Sanjeev kumar, Prof. S. J. Trivedi and Dr. S. K. Chawda from NAU visited Amboli, Dhoranpardi, Karjan, Dhatva & Koli-Bhardhana villages of Kamrej taluka of Surat District on May 23, 2021 to guide the farmers from damage occurred due to cyclone- Tauktae to various crops (mainly banana), in regards to how to lessen their monetary damage, how damaged banana crop can be reutilized and how to protect their crop from probable insect-pest damage. Total 52 farmers were contacted for the purpose.

Survey was carried out for "Cyclone Tauktae" affected fields in villages of Olpad taluka, Surat district during May 25, 2021. Guidance provided about different crops in many villages viz., Bhatgam, Aerthan, Achharan, Sondha-Mitha, Rajnagar, Sandhier, Gola, Delad, Paria and Vasvari.

In-service training on scientific cultivation of cotton

In-service training on virtual mode was given to CRP staff of Care India and some farmers of Umarada taluka on Scientific cultivation of cotton by Prof. S. J. Trivedi, Scientist (Crop Production) on May 24, 2021. Toatl 46 participants including 20 CRP staff of Care India remained present in the training. Dr. J. H. Rathod, Senior Scientist & Head welcomed all participants and advised them to cultivate cotton scientifically. Prof. S. J. Trivedi gave detailed package of practices to be followed for scientific cultivation of Bt cotton varieties, INM & IWM in cotton. Nice questions were raised by participants and got satisfactory reply from the scientist. Mr. Jitendra Goyal & Jigyasha madam from Care India share vote of thanks to all.

In-service training on Integrated Pest and Disease Management in Cotton

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat organized In- service training on May 24, 2021 with collaboration of Care India, NGO, Umarpada, Surat. The training was organized on virtual platform with subject of Integrated Pest and Disease Management in Cotton. Dr. J. H. Rathod, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK,

Surat welcomed all participants in his introductory speech. Mr. Jitendra Goyal, Care India gave emphasis on IPDM training as the sowing of cotton started in nearest future. Dr. R. K. Patel, Scientist, KVK, Surat guided extension personals on different aspects of plant protection in cotton with film show viz., Identification of insect pests and diseases in

cotton, nature of damage by insect pests in cotton and IPDM in cotton. Twenty extension personals including CRP, village volunteers of Care India as well as twenty farmers of Umarpada and Mandvi block of surat district were actively participated in the training programme. Total 46 participants remained present.

Virtual training on scientific cultivation of paddy

Dial-out training on Scientific Cultivation of Paddy (Irrigated Transplanted, Rainfed Transplanted & Drilled) was organized with Reliance Foundation-Netrang by KVK-Surat on May 26, 2021. Prof. S. J. Trivedi, Scientist (Crop Production) described all paddy technologies viz, Selection of Proper variety, Seed treatment, Integrated Nutrient Management, Integrated Weed Management up to harvesting of crop. Total 77 farmers of Mandvi, Mangrol & Umarpada block of Surat district Participated in the training. From Reliance Foundation Mrs. Avaniben & Mr. Pareshbhai took part in this Dial-out training. Both the scientist gave satisfactory answer to all questions asked by farmers. At last, Mr. Pareshbhai share vote of thanks to all participants and the KVK Scientists.

Dial out Tele-conference training programme on Integrated Pest and Disease Management in Paddy

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat and Reliance foundation jointly organized training (Dial out Tele-conference programme) for farmers on May 26, 2021. The training was organized as Tele-conference programme with subject of Integrated Pest and Disease Management in Paddy.

Dr. R. K. Patel, Scientist, KVK, Surat guided to farmers about different aspects of plant protection in paddy viz., Identification of insect pests and diseases in paddy, nature of damage by insect pests in paddy and IPDM in paddy. Awareness created among farmers about Jal Shakti Abhiyan. Various tribal farmers raised questions about insect pest damage in paddy and it was satisfactory replied by KVK scientist. Total 77 farmers and farm women of Mandvi, Umarpada and Mangrol block of Surat district remained present in the Dial out Tele- conference training programme.
