    Appendix D COSMETIC PIERCING (inc. EAR/NOSE PIERCING WITHOUT GUN) DEFINITIONS Body Piercing Body piercing is when a hole is made in the skin and a piece of ‘jewellery’ is place within the hole. Beading Steel beads or similar objects are inserted under the skin to mould or shape the skin. Microdermal Anchors (single point piercing) Single point piercings carried out with ordinary piercing needle that places a post under the skin which a variety of accessories can be screwed into. 1. AGE 1.1. Clients must be over the age of 18 for all types of body piercing other than ear, nose, Lip (labaret), eyebrow or navel. 1.2. Anyone under the age of 16 who wants ear, nose, lip, eyebrow or navel piercing must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who must sign the appropriate consent forms. The consent form must include full name, address, contact number and relationship to person receiving piercing. 2. Challenge 25 Policy 2.1. Any person wishing to receive a licensable treatment will need to provide proof of their age if they look under 25 . 2.2. Licencees must advertise this policy so that all clients are made aware that they may be challenged about their age if they look under 25. 2.3. Acceptable forms of ID are a photo driving licence, passport or the PASS hologram proof of age card. 2.4. Where a challenge is made, it must be recorded and proof of age also noted on the client record card. 3. CLIENT CONSULTATION 3.1. A full client consultation must be carried out at the time of a first visit and prior to any treatment.

It Didn't Hurt as Much as I Expected The most common question on anyone's mind is: "Do nose piercings hurt?" They do hurt, but the pain was not as bad as I had imagined. I thought it would be a sharp, searing pain, and it really wasn’t. I felt a pinch and a twinge. Of course, everyone's pain tolerance level is different. If you have had your ears pierced before, this will hurt one level more. People who have zero pain tolerance report pain, but they say it is quick. Keep in mind that because the nerves in your nose are connected to your sinuses, your eyes will water. Prepare yourself for the fact that a needle will go through your nostril cartilage, but don’t get too worked up over it. The worst part is that the needle will be right in your face, so you have to close your eyes to avoid looking at it. Overall, nose piercing pain is bearable, and it is worth it if you really want it. 2. MELTZER, M.D., State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine, Stony Brook, New York The trend of body piercing at sites other than the earlobe has grown in popularity in the past decade. The tongue, lips, nose, eyebrows, nipples, navel, and genitals may be pierced. Complica- tions of body piercing include local and systemic infections, poor cosmesis, and foreign body rejection. Swelling and tooth fracture are common problems after tongue piercing. Minor infec- tions, allergic contact dermatitis, keloid formation, and traumatic tearing may occur after pierc- ing of the earlobe. “High” ear piercing through the ear cartilage is associated with more serious infections and disfigurement. Fluoroquinolone antibiotics are advised for treatment of auricular perichondritis because of their antipseudomonal activity. Many complications from piercing are body-site–specific or related to the piercing technique used. Navel, nipple, and genital piercings often have prolonged healing times.
