URSA Scholars Week
Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Achievement Baylor University presents URSA Scholars Week March 22 - March 26, 2010 Dear Colleagues: Welcome to Baylor’s Third Annual URSA Scholars’ Week! One of Baylor’s documented core strengths is a vital, transformative undergraduate classroom experience. Undergraduate research is a wonderful extension of that experience, providing students the opportunity to explore real world research / scholarship in partnership with their teachers. The presentations before you are the fruit of another core Baylor value – relationship. They represent a rare glimpse into the investment routinely made by Baylor faculty in their students, centered on individual mentoring and the sharing of research skills that can inform a lifetime of academic endeavor. I am grateful for your presence at URSA Scholars’ Day 2010. What has been said in previous years continues to be so: the best is yet to come. Sincerely, Truell W. Do Not Pass Go Hasbro Inc., the toy giant that sells Monopoly, asked the board this week to block a Croatian company from registering a “Drinkopoly” logo as a trademark. In a notice of opposition, Hasbro said the sound-alike name and logo would confuse consumers – and the company had pretty impressive stats to back up the claim. “From 1934 to present, Hasbro has sold more than 220 million sets of the Monopoly board game,” the company wrote, citing the year the game was first sold by Parker Brothers, which was later acquired by Hasbro. “From 2007 to present, Hasbro's sales of products under its Monopoly marks worldwide have exceeded $3,000,000,000,” the company wrote. “The Monopoly board game is sold in over 26 languages in more than 80 countries around the world.” Over the past two years, Hasbro has filed similar cases against applications to register “Monopoly Movement,” “Alec Monopoly,” “Monopoly Enterprises,” “Slotopoly" and “Monopoly Hotels and Resorts.” Hasbro is represented by Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz PC. -

How Superman Developed Into a Jesus Figure
HOW SUPERMAN DEVELOPED INTO A JESUS FIGURE CRISIS ON INFINITE TEXTS: HOW SUPERMAN DEVELOPED INTO A JESUS FIGURE By ROBERT REVINGTON, B.A., M.A. A Thesis Submitted to the School of Graduate Studies in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts McMaster University © Copyright by Robert Revington, September 2018 MA Thesis—Robert Revington; McMaster University, Religious Studies McMaster University MASTER OF ARTS (2018) Hamilton, Ontario, Religious Studies TITLE: Crisis on Infinite Texts: How Superman Developed into a Jesus Figure AUTHOR: Robert Revington, B.A., M.A (McMaster University) SUPERVISOR: Professor Travis Kroeker NUMBER OF PAGES: vi, 143 ii MA Thesis—Robert Revington; McMaster University, Religious Studies LAY ABSTRACT This thesis examines the historical trajectory of how the comic book character of Superman came to be identified as a Christ figure in popular consciousness. It argues that this connection was not integral to the character as he was originally created, but was imposed by later writers over time and mainly for cinematic adaptations. This thesis also tracks the history of how Christians and churches viewed Superman, as the film studios began to exploit marketing opportunities by comparing Superman and Jesus. This thesis uses the methodological framework of intertextuality to ground its treatment of the sources, but does not follow all of the assumptions of intertextual theorists. iii MA Thesis—Robert Revington; McMaster University, Religious Studies ABSTRACT This thesis examines the historical trajectory of how the comic book character of Superman came to be identified as a Christ figure in popular consciousness. Superman was created in 1938, but the character developed significantly from his earliest incarnations. -

There are some little one-shot stories tacked on to complete the collection, generally showing how Diana sees the good in all manner of beings. Wonder Woman finds out she was the target. Good filler, but filler nonetheless. Wonder Woman: Volume 5 24, Wing Kee rated it really liked it. What adds to the greatness of this run is the fact that no other superhero is part of this story. Want to Read saving…. Yet on the horizon appears a being claiming to be Superman, yet made from a blast of Clark's Solar Flare power. Her struggle with her blood and her choice is a good idea and one worth discussing but the choppy character nature of the story made her lose the impact of the story. It was when it started becoming more involved and convoluted that I found myself losing a bit of interest in it. Seriously, the first five issues of this volume are Wonder Woman: Volume 5 Heart of the Amazon parts one through five. This series originally showed a lot of promise and DC really could have done something memorable here but instead we got stories that were too heavy on the action and not the characters and jumped to and from this series to Superman's less than memorable Wonder Woman: Volume 5. What's Your Kryptonite
BUCYRUS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH August 26, 2018 “WHAT’S YOUR KRYPTONITE” Pastor Mike Corwin TEXT: HEBREWS 12:1-3 GOD’S WORD: COLOSSIANS 3:1-11 I – SUPERMAN: Most of you, my age or older, will remember hearing on the radio or the TV – “faster than a speeding bullet…more powerful than a locomotive…able to leap tall buildings in a single bound…Look, up in the sky! It’s a bird, it’s a plane!...It’s superman! And then we knew it was time to sit down to listen or to watch the latest episode of the superhero Superman. He was created by the minds of men in Cleveland, Ohio and made his debut in Action Comics #1 on April 18, 1938 and he has entertained us and amazed generations of people ever since. How could you not like a man who came to earth to avoid destruction, was stronger than any human being, could fly, think faster, run faster, freeze things with his breath, and on top of it all had x-ray vision. He could do anything, especially what we couldn’t. I know he was sometimes given a darker side in the modern movies, but not in the original shows. He was truly a hero who watched over and protected the people of this planet. He was invincible and could not be defeated. He had no weaknesses…except one. Kryptonite! Kryptonite was the radioactive element from his home planet of Krypton. When he got close to its ore form he was sapped of all his strength and super powers. -

It’s a universe filled with adventure around every corner, not least among them on Earth, an unassuming but cosmically significant planet out of the way of most space territories. Heroes and villains, from the bottom of the Dark Multiverse to the top of the Monitor Sphere, endlessly struggle for justice, for power, and for control over the fate of the very multiverse itself. In addition to this persuasive array of positive holy figurations, complementary unholy religious subtexts were also built into the films.
