Paul Hagen Chairperson Airport Board ss 2 Board meeting September 2020 Keith Gilbertson - Service Manager Premier Motorcars - Porsche, Land Rover/Jaguar, Volvo, Alfa Romeo, Maserati Works with a company called Wanta go fast in Georgia Would like to rent the airport for a drag race Presentation / questions. Back in July Keith had contacted me looking for a location that would “fit” there needs. (I revised the emails back and forth from Keith and me to answer some questions and set up what is needed and wanted for this event.) They host standing half mile events on airport properties. Basically they send two cars down a mile-long runway at the same time and they cease the run at a half mile where the speed is clocked. Top speed wins the day. These are street tires so slicks and burnouts are not allowed. Our property layout is exactly what they are looking for. They carry the insurance levels that would be required. The events are a lot of fun and bring in a wide array of people. Keith says they only hire local support for towing, Medical, etc. Plus, the airport gets a lot of good exposure. They are flexible on days but would prefer a full weekend or a Sunday only if it works better for us. They are looking at dates next summer. They have been involved in races at Heaven’s landing private airfield. There have been events run at Marion County Municipal Airport in Indiana, Immokalle Municipal in Florida, and many others. A competing group Shift Sector operates the Marion County event. Andy Darling runs that airport. If we wanted his perspective on these types of events, they have run there for 5 years. The General inbox there is [email protected]. (Keep in mind our group ½ mile Rivals runs different rules, classes). This group (want to go fast) is responsible for parking, clean up and potable bathrooms. They do not need anything from airport staff other than to help understand where to block off entrance, exits etc. Also there is a possibility of a plane needing to land during the event they would need to be able to communicate with airport staff should the need arise. Keith would like move forward to see whole facility so they can plan much of this with area staff (city/airport). They can have a temporary fence installed near the spectator area for keeping separation. They would hire local law enforcement to have a presence as well as medical, etc. As far as compensation they look to us to set the rate, generally he views the facility as a partner and there working relationship is very important. Once he knows the facility cost is he can begin to look at ticket allotment, etc. There are many things to talk through but having a base yes/no on the facility is the first step. SRE is going to be bumped again BOA is having issues with getting wavers due to the fact all equipment has to be American made. There is not enough American made product to be able to have “fair” bidding. We are going to have to limp along with the equipment that we have and repairs and adjustments to how we plow might have to be made to make sure the equipment will last all winter. Corbin the airports new BOA Rep is leaving the BOA and we will again be working with Andrew Trimble until they find us another replacement. BOA is having a lot of personnel changes (retirements) in the last two years so funding and projects are taking longer than normal. A huge thank you to Justin and Brian!! The dirt for the sink holes has been delivered and to Brian Long for bringing out equipment and filling those holes. The Brunner hangar large hangar door will need to have the cables replaced before next year. Unauthorized vehicles caught on runway again. We had a DHL delivery driver enter the airport from commercial drive ignoring all postings and signage. He continued entering run ways and taxiways. The driver was spoken to and had no “clue” and decided that he should “drive around to figure things out”. I contacted DHL and had them take care of the problem internally. I did inform them if there was a next time the driver would be detained and the authorities would be contacted. The crew car has been at car repair shops to find out what it will cost of have it fixed (regular wear and tear). I received three quotes Petersons, AFS Service, and Family Auto Repair. The quotes range from $800.00 to $4757.60; however, they all include different repairs to fix the car. Quotes are included in the packet so we can decide where and what needs to be done. Fuel farm Jet A fuel single point was down for a while we were waiting for parts and then we were having problems with the Jet A over the wing fueling way to slow. The dead man switch and all the filters for the Jet A where replaced. The fuel repair companies where charging trip fees along with hourly cost so I asked the mechanic on the grounds and he did it for his hourly rate. Best part it only took him an hour and now everything is back to running smoothly. Thank you to Klatt Aero for taking the time out of your day to help fix the fuel farm. The loss of fuel sales where minimum due to the fact most sales where over the wing and most of the pilots where understanding and still fuelled when the pumps where slow. It’s been a different summer we had a loss of aircraft during what would have been 2020 air adventure; however, we have seen an increase of traffic from day to day then in the past. We have also seen an increase of private jets this year. The flight school is getting crazy numbers of calls for flight training but we are continuing restricting the amount of students at one time.
