Interesting Facts Woods is designing an 18-hole championship golf course, Trump World Golf Club in Dubai, U.A.E., being built by luxury real estate developer DAMAC Properties. In May 2019, Woods was named in a lawsuit for allegedly contributing to the death of an employee, Nicolas Immesberger at his restaurant, 'The Woods Jupiter.' According to the lawsuit, Immesberger, an employee of the restaurant was overserved alcohol, which resulted in a one-car fatal crash. Woods' girlfriend, Erica Herman who was the General Manager of the establishment was also named in the lawsuit. In 2000, Woods signed a $105 million contract extension with Nike. It was the largest endorsement deal ever signed by an athlete at that time. In February 2004, Buick renewed Woods' endorsement contract for another five years, in a deal reportedly worth $40 million. Woods played his first professional tournament in 1992, at the age of 16, at the Nissan Los Angeles Open and three more PGA Tour events in 1993. He made the 36-hole cut and stood at 34th place in the 1994 Johnnie Walker Asian Classic in Thailand and made three additional PGA Tour appearances. He joined Stanford University in 1994 and in two years, he won 10 collegiate events, concluding with the NCAA title. His other amateur victories included the 1994 Western Amateur. He represented the U.S. in the 1994 World Amateur Team Championships in France and the 1995 Walker Cup Match in Wales, U.K. In March 2010, Woods participated in the Masters Tournament at Augusta National. He won the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2012. Is nicknamed "Tiger" after a Vietnamese soldier, Vuong Dang Phong, who was his father's friend in Vietnam to whom his father had also given that nickname. In 2009, the National Enquirer leaked a story that Woods had been cheating on his wife with Rachel Uchitel, a nightclub manager. In the same year, Jaimee Grubbs, a reality show contestant and cocktail waitress, said that she had slept with Woods in 2007. Following the scandal, Woods admitted to the relationship.

Quite inadvertently, he also sowed the seeds of a business operation that today consists of 31 golf facilities and generates hundreds of millions of dollars in annual revenues for the PGA Tour. Called the TPC Network, it currently comprises private, public and daily-fee courses that serve recreational golfers throughout the United States as well as in Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia and Malaysia. Several of those layouts also act as venues for PGA Tour, PGA Tour Champions and Korn Ferry Tour events, such as TPC River Highlands outside Hartford, Connecticut, the home of the Travelers Championship, and TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, where the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational was held last month. This year’s PGA Championship was staged at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, California, and the first tournament of the 2020 FedEx Cup playoffs, the Northern Trust, is being played this weekend at TPC Boston. That is an impressive collection. Equally as significant is how that division of the tour is thriving as it celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Designed largely by Pete and Alice Dye with significant impact from Beman, TPC Sawgrass was the first piece of that portfolio when it opened in the fall of 1980. Many industry observers, including a number of his tour professionals, considered it a risky venture.

Trenham 1950 to 1959 Contents 1950 Ben Hogan won the U.S. Open at Merion and Henry Williams, Jr. was runner-up in the PGA Championship. 1951 Ben Hogan won the Masters and the U.S. Open before ending his eleven-year association with Hershey CC. 1952 Dave Douglas won twice on the PGA Tour while Henry Williams, Jr. and Al Besselink each won also. 1953 Al Besselink, Dave Douglas, Ed Oliver and Art Wall each won tournaments on the PGA Tour. 1954 Art Wall won at the Tournament of Champions and Dave Douglas won the Houston Open. 1955 Atlantic City hosted the PGA national meeting and the British Ryder Cup team practiced at Atlantic City CC. 1956 Mike Souchak won four times on the PGA Tour and Johnny Weitzel won a second straight Pennsylvania Open. 1957 Joe Zarhardt returned to the Section to win a Senior Open put on by Leo Fraser and the Atlantic City CC. 1958 Marty Lyons and Llanerch CC hosted the first PGA Championship contested at stroke play. 1959 Art Wall won the Masters, led the PGA Tour in money winnings and was named PGA Player of the Year. 1950 In early January Robert “Skee” Riegel announced that he was turning pro. Riegel who had grown up in east- ern Pennsylvania had won the U.S. Amateur in 1947 while living in California. He was now playing out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. At that time the PGA rules prohibited him from accepting any money on the PGA Tour for six months.
