If Kendrick Lamar felt pressured to continue living up to his previous exit, there is no evidence on DAMN. He's too busy tracking the spectrum of his mental states, from boxin' demons to flexible on swole, questioning and reveling in his wealth, castigating and celebrating his pedigree, humble enough to link his vulnerabilities, assured enough to proclaim Not out of all y'all fuckin' with the flow. Throughout, he intensely examines most of the seven deadly sins, knowing all along that his existence is threatened by those who object to the color of his skin or clothing - or, in the case of a blind stranger who shoots him during the album opener, nothing that is obvious. Compared to maximum capacity, genre-twisting expanses and meandering narratives of Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City and Pimp Butterfly, DAMN. at first glance it seems like a relatively simple rap album that requires less from the listener. There's relative vanity in track and material titles, and a greater emphasis on commercial sounds - such as Mike WiLL's lean and piano lace trap beat for strong ARMING HUMBLE., Lamar's first Top Ten pop hit, and a couple of productions that just functional backgrounds lack the differences. In a way, however, DAMN. Just as generous and singular as previous albums, its number and weight of thoughts and related concepts condenses into a much tighter space. It contains some of Lamar's best writings and performances, revealing his evolving complexity and versatility as a heartbreaking lyricist and dynamic rapper. While it is sometimes distorted, stretched, smeared, and reversed by a compelling and imaginative-fueled effect, his voice is most affected by his many raw forms. Take FEAR., in which he switches between echoes of hot blood-parent threats to enumerate, with a 40-acre look, a different death scenario. His story hits an amazing new high on Duckworth, the album finale. Over the ethereal funk, stitched up by the 9th Miracle, Lamar detailed a potentially tragic encounter between his father and future Top Dawg CEO Anthony Tiffit (and the conditions that led to it), which occurred long before Kenehl was known as K. Dot. © Andy Kellman/ TiVo Chris, Marketing After Being Nominated for (and Winning) Grammies than any other artist last year for his album To Pimp a Butterfly, rapper Kendrick Lamar surprised the music world this week by releasing, with a promotion, a subsequent collection of demos and song sketches. The new release, Untitled Unmastered, seems like a continuation of last year's hit album. All eight songs were seemingly written and recorded at the same time as a pimp butterfly, so think of it as a B-side collection that follows the same set of themes, religion, racial stereotypes, hometown pride, and the current political climate in the US. Untitled Unmastered is not so cohesive in To Pimp a Butterfly; It's not for everyone, but it's a revealing record, especially for Kendrick fans looking for a more complete understanding of the idiosyncratic artist with little to prove but a lot to say. It was released on March 4, 2016, according to Top Dawg Entertainment, Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records. It consists of previously unreleased demos that emerged during the recording of Lamar's album To Pimp a Butterfly (2015), continuing to explore politically charged and philosophical themes, as well as experiments with free jazz, soul, avant-garde music and funk styles. The compilation received widespread critical acclaim, and it debuted atop the U.S. Billboard 200.Thundercat, which appears on six tracks on the album, was unaware of Untitled Unmastered until perhaps the day before its release. In December 2014, as he prepared for the release of his third album To Pimp a Butterfly (2015), Lamar performed an unreleased, untitled track as a musical guest on The Colbert Report. In January 2016, he performed another untitled song on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. After his acclaimed performance at the 2016 Grammy Awards, which included aspects of another new untitled track, Lamar revealed the existence of a collection of tracks that didn't hit Butterfly: I got a camera material from an album I was in love with, where trial gaps or something as simple as the deadline kept him from the album. After hints of a new release from Lamar's label Top Dawg Entertainment, and allegedly backed by NBA player LeBron James' public request to TDE head Anthony Tiffit that Lamar's untitled work be released, Untitled First resurfaced on Spotify on March 4, 2016 containing eight untitled tracks but with no apparent release date. On the same day, the project was officially released on the iTunes Store. It covers 34 and has eight untitled tracks, each of which is dated. These dates indicate that the songs were written and recorded at various points between 2013 and 2016. Later in the day, Lamar confirmed that the tracks were an unfinished demo from To Pimp a Butterfly. In an interview with Spin, vocalist Anna Wise, recalling the demos that appear on Untitled Unmastered, claims to have known about the album's existence for an undisclosed amount of time, and asked to keep it a secret until its release. Untitled Unmastered was released for digital retailers and streaming services on March 4. The physical CD release of its explicit edition followed on March 11, and the edited version was released on March 18. On March 23, 2016, 'Untitled 07 levitate' was released separately on the iTunes Store as a single single. Songs performed during Lamar's performances on The Colbert Report ('untitled 03' 05.28.2013.', plus new code), The Tonight Show ('untitled 08' 09.06.2014.' plus the end of 'untitled 02 06.23.2014.') and the end of the 2016 Grammys (part of his first verse from 'Untitled 05 09.21.2014.') were included in the untitled Unmastered. The Tonight Show was previously known as Untitled 2. Previously, part of Lamar's Untitled 08 piece was used to remix Funcadelik's song Ain't That Funkin Kinda Hard on You. Swizz Beatz said that his and Alicia Keys 5-year-old son Egypt produced an untitled 07 and played a big contribution in productions untitled 01 and untitled 02 through unnamed samples. Producer TDE Sounwave confirmed on Twitter that Egypt had released the second half of the track. Untitled 06 06.30.2014' includes unregistered vocals by American singer CeeLo Green, while it was produced by Adrian Younge and Ali Shahid Muhammad of A Tribe Called quest.

Full Environmental Assessment Form (FEAF) Workbook SEQR Environmental Assessment Form Guidance Documents The Full Environmental Assessment Form (FEAF) is designed specifically for Type I Actions. It has three parts. The first part (Part 1) is filled out by the applicant, or project sponsor. Part 2 and Part 3 are the responsibility of the lead agency. Throughout the workbook, the term 'lead agency' is also referred to as the 'reviewing agency'. Part 1 of the FEAF provides details that will help the reviewing agency understand the location, size, type, and characteristics of the proposed project. Part 1 can be completed by the applicant using information prepared as part of the approval submission along with maps, plats, or other studies that may have been conducted and by exploring the information and maps available through the links in this guide. The lead agency should also review the information provided by the applicant in Part 1 for basic accuracy and completeness. Sometimes, the lead agency is also the project sponsor and there are no other agencies involved. An example of this is when a municipality adopts a local law. In such circumstances, the lead agency would also be required to complete Part 1 as the project sponsor. Part 2 is used to help the reviewing agency identify potential impacts that may result from the project. In order to do this, the reviewing agency will evaluate information from Part 1, but may also ask the applicant for clarification of information provided in Part 1, or additional information. Part 3 is used by the reviewing agency to determine if the potential adverse impacts identified in Part 2 are significant or not, and whether a draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) will be prepared.

In the days, weeks, months, and years that followed, there was an outpouring of media reacting to and reflecting on the great loss of life and resulting nuclear contamination of the nearby land and sea of the region. Thematically, food plays a large role in many post-3.11 narratives, both through the damage and recovery of local food systems after the natural disasters and the radiation contamination that to this day stigmatizes regionally grown food.

HIPNESS, HYBRIDITY, AND “NEO-BOHEMIAN” HIP-HOP: RETHINKING EXISTENCE IN THE AFRICAN DIASPORA A Dissertation Presented to the Faculty of the Graduate School of Cornell University in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy by Maxwell Lewis Williams August 2020 © 2020 Maxwell Lewis Williams HIPNESS, HYBRIDITY, AND “NEO-BOHEMIAN” HIP-HOP: RETHINKING EXISTENCE IN THE AFRICAN DIASPORA Maxwell Lewis Williams Cornell University 2020 This dissertation theorizes a contemporary hip-hop genre that I call “neo-bohemian,” typified by rapper Kendrick Lamar and his collective, Black Hippy. I argue that, by reclaiming the origins of hipness as a set of hybridizing Black cultural responses to the experience of modernity, neo- bohemian rappers imagine and live out liberating ways of being beyond the West’s objectification and dehumanization of Blackness. In turn, I situate neo-bohemian hip-hop within a history of Black musical expression in the United States, Senegal, Mali, and South Africa to locate an “aesthetics of existence” in the African diaspora. By centering this aesthetics as a unifying component of these musical practices, I challenge top-down models of essential diasporic interconnection. Instead, I present diaspora as emerging primarily through comparable responses to experiences of paradigmatic racial violence, through which to imagine radical alternatives to our anti-Black global society. Overall, by rethinking the heuristic value of hipness as a musical and lived Black aesthetic, the project develops an innovative method for connecting the aesthetic and the social in music studies and Black studies, while offering original historical and musicological insights into Black metaphysics and studies of the African diaspora.

(Minor Member) MONOLOGUE OVERGROWN: REVISING THE WORLD WITH SPEECH IN FRANZ KAFKA, ROBERT WALSER AND THOMAS BERNHARD A Dissertation Presented to the Faculty of the Graduate School of Cornell University In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy by Paul Joseph Buchholz August 2010 © 2010 Paul Joseph Buchholz MONOLOGUE OVERGROWN: REVISING THE WORLD WITH SPEECH IN FRANZ KAFKA, ROBERT WALSER AND THOMAS BERNHARD Paul Joseph Buchholz, Ph. D. Cornell University 2010 My dissertation focuses on unstable, chronically unpublished prose texts by three key 20th century prose writers, quasi-novelistic texts whose material instability indicates a deep discomfort with the establishment of narrative authority qua narrative violence. I argue that Franz Kafka, Robert Walser and Thomas Bernhard, radically refunctionalized the device of interpolated “character monologue,” turning characters' speech from a narrative function, into a site where a text can be rewritten from within. In the Bildungsroman tradition, extended oral interpolations serve as an engine for the expansion and exposition of the plotted work, deepening the epic narrative world and exhaustively presenting a perspective that will be incorporated into biographical trajectory. I locate an estrangement of this practice: moments when oral monologues of fictional interlocutors “overgrow,” becoming an interventionary force that doubles, disrupts and re-frames the narrative discourse out of which it first sprouted. In showing how the labor of ‘world-making’ is split and spread across different competing layers of these texts, my dissertation contributes to the study of the narrative phenomenon of metalepsis.

Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres by Vivian Le A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems (Honors Scholar) Presented May 29, 2020 Commencement June 2020 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Vivian Le for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems presented on May 29, 2020. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.
