As a founding faculty of the MDM Program, I have: mentored and trained new faculty from industry to teach 12-credit digital media based projects with graduate students; iterated on the design and teaching of an interdisciplinary improvisation course adapting activities since 2007 to align learning outcomes with competencies from various creative communities; developed new programs with faculty including an ESL boot camp, a condensed version of the MDM Program for teenagers, an executive blended version of the program, and an internationally targeted IDEA-X innovation course as a pathway for students from China, India and Europe; designed the core project-based pipeline for projects implementing agile methodologies, design thinking and user-centered approaches, visual models for brainstorming, rapid prototyping, and research-backed tools to improve team collaboration; and initiated an Action Research study to understand, document and share the mentoring practices of faculty from various sectors of the digital media industry. Within UBC’s Department of Theatre & Film, I have: taught sound design courses whose students work on internal and external live productions; project-based creative courses that integrate students from Arts, Computer Science and Engineering faculties; forged teaching partnerships with UBC Medicine, Law, Journalism, Psychology, Music, Geography, Computer Science and Applied Sciences; created collaborative opportunities between UBC Computer Science and Arts students with MDM graduate students to enhance projects with additional skillsets. 2 2018-2021 UBC Emerging Media Lab, Faculty in Residence, Pipeline and Course Development. As Faculty in Residence at the EML I have: worked with staff, students and faculty to support the implementation of agile software development pipelines; integrated EML staff within project-based courses; mentored faculty unfamiliar with software development; supervised and secured industry professionals to conduct workshops for students on subjects such as Agile, User Experience design, Unity 3D and Unreal development; led the EML vision committee to expand the brand within UBC; supported the development of satellite labs nationally and internationally; worked with a work/learn hiring committee to define project requirements; acted as an industry liaison to secure partnerships; and reached out to various creative communities to increase student exposure and recruitment opportunities. 2018-2021 UBC Extended Learning. As a guest designer, consultant and instructor I have: designed and taught several Virtual Reality courses for the Future Global Leaders program, a Managing Creativity course as part of a new BioMedical Visualization & Communication Certificate, an EdX remote course to support people in reinventing their work from home with over 11,000 students; and work regularly with the leadership team in designing human-centred design micro-credential courses and mentoring UBC faculty. Scholarly Contributions & Research Creation My scholarly contributions include: the design and composition of sound for live and mediated productions; and the creation, research, curation, and supervision of software development projects in collaboration with others to create innovative experiences, support teaching and learning, and solve human problems. I have: shared the results of individual and collaborative research at various national and international conferences; spoken on current technological trends; moderated expert panels at international conferences; and published in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters.
