Research Productivity Award (Rpa) 2017

FINAL RESULT FOR RESEARCH PRODUCTIVITY AWARD (RPA) 2017

As we all know that the review of criteria for RPA and PSP is an ongoing process. We fully acknowledge the suggestions and comments received from some of you which have been incorporated in the revised criteria. A major decision of the committee in the revised criteria is that RPA is also categorized subject wise like PSP, and the number of awards in each subject is proportionate to the number of applicants. Please feel free to provide any further suggestions to improve the criteria, which will be reviewed before announcement of next RPA.  A total of 2493 productive scientists of Pakistan employed in public/private sector universities, colleges and R&D organizations applied for RPA this year.  Only the RESEARCH OUTPUT in 2016 was considered, either in the form of a publication with Pakistani address, patent, book, PhD supervised, external research grant or applied research output. Applicants having no research output in 2016 are not eligible for RPA.  Foreign address papers have not been considered.  Applicants blacklisted for any act of plagiarism are not considered for RPA.  The details of RPA criteria are available at http://pcst.org.pk/rpa.php  The weightage for different research areas under the revised RPA criteria is as under:

Citations per article 10 Patents Granted 10% Ph.D. Supervised 5% Books Published / Edited 5% External Research Grants 10% Applied Research Output/Innovation 10% Total 100%  A minimum threshold of 250 applicants is fixed to deem applicants successful in 12 subjects in four different categories from A to D. Number of awardees in each subject is calculated as relative percentage of total applicants of the subject. For e.g. the number of applicants in Pharmaceutical Sciences is 76 which is 3.047% of total applicants. Hence, the number of awardees out of 250 is 08 in Pharmaceutical Sciences.  As per committee decision 10% of the top applicants from every subject are awarded category A, while the next 20%, 30% and 40% leading applicants are awarded category B, C and D respectively.  The mean benchmarks are given below for ready reference:

Output

* Benchmarks for different parameters are rationalized using the mean of the highest scores in each subject. Scaling is applied in a way that everyone scoring higher than the mean benchmark shall be given 100% of that parameter.

**An applicant can assess his/her own score for any parameter by dividing his/her score by applying the following formula:

Percentile Score X Score of Applicant Mean Benchmark Score

e.g. for PhD supervised , if the applicant's score is 40 then 5/15.42*40= 12.97

Score of applicants is calculated after applying divisibility. For example for Cumulative Impact Factor (IF) of an applicant:

 The IF of each journal is obtained from the JCR

 IF of each paper is calculated by dividing journal impact factor by number of authors e.g. If a paper having 2 authors is published in a journal with impact factor 3, the Divided IF is 3/2 = 1.5.

 The Divided IF is summed up for all the publications of applicant and is Author Impact Factor

 All possible efforts were made by PCST to contact scientists by emails/phone calls for data collection through online system as well as

through their CVs along with proofs of their credentials. However, many scientists could not provide complete information for RPA, and

hence their data may not be complete.

 The draft data was made available for review to the applicants before final release of result, so no amendments will be made in the final

result of RPA 2017.

 PCST bears no responsibility for any error in the spellings of name, designation or present institutional address of any applicant, as they were
