UT Psychiatry Early Detection and Intervention Program (EDIP) Clinic. Currently providing 4 hours per week of evidence-based psychotherapy for individuals experiencing first episode psychosis. Medical Director: Raymond Cho, MD, MSc.

Clinical Supervisor for UTHealth Masters Level Social Workers

Clinical supervisor for social work trainees working towards LCSW licensure. (20% Faculty Effort) Multi-modality methods of supervision, based on contemporary knowledge and skills of supervision, to be used include: Group discussion of evidence- based interventions for the populations serviced, review of patient clinical and functional progress, challenges and successes with intervention implementation, current research in early-intervention, treatment engagement and adherence, prevention of psychiatric readmission, social determinants of health. Direct observation of clinical practice and ratings of intervention fidelity. Interventions to be implemented: Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Teach-Back, Family Systems Therapy. Individual supervision to discuss clinical progress and career development. Individual and group discussion in the areas of cultural competence, personalized and patient- centered healthcare, health disparities, shared decision making, transitional care interventions, psychiatric diagnosis. Group instruction in the areas of cognitive behavioral therapy for psychotic symptoms, motivational interviewing to improve treatment engagement and adherence, use of validated assessments to rate psychiatric symptoms.

Quality Improvement Research at UTHealth Harris County Psychiatric Center Quality improvement research and evaluation focused on improving post-discharge engagement with outpatient treatment and reducing 30-day psychiatric readmissions. Ongoing evaluation of programs implemented to reduce readmissions (Teach-Back, Motivational Interviewing, Medication Reconciliation, and Intensive Case Reviews). Projects include key-informant interviews with readmitted patients, patient focus groups with high utilizers, analysis of electronic medical record data. Community presentations. UT Physicians/ Medicaid Network Access Improvement Program (NAIP)/Amerigroup Medicaid Managed Care. Program evaluation for a comparative effectiveness/cost analysis for an intensive outpatient program (IOP) providing comprehensive medical and psychiatric services for children and adolescents with co- morbid mental health and physical health issues. Program Director: Rebecca Girardet, M.D., Associate Professor, Director UT Physicians Child Protection Clinic, McGovern Medical School, 25% Salary effort for 2016 as Lead Program Evaluator.

PAST GRANT SUPPORT:

Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration Coordinated Specialty Care. Role: Principal Investigator, Amount: $125,000. Awarded 2-year program evaluation contract (2015-2016) to conduct a comparative effectiveness/cost analysis for an early onset psychosis program implemented in Houston, Texas at the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD. Coordinated Specialty Care was developed by the National Institutes of Mental Health and is funded through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Federal Children’s Bureau Title IV-E Waiver. Awarded subcontract to conduct a cost analysis for the evaluation of the implementation of the Title IV-E Waiver in Harris County Texas to improve child and family outcomes in the Texas Foster Care System.
