Kumdo Shoulder Warm-Up Wand Patterns

These patterns were assembled by Master Shane Hylton from Championship & Hylton Tactical and based off movements in “Light Gymnastics” by William G. Anderson, MD (1890). Kumdo is a Korean martial art. All patterns performed traditionally to 8 count cadence. Do not force the movements—breath, relax, open mind & body.

Wand Tips: This is a “Western” approach to wand use so involves some gentle prying and pulling; however, ideally wands are about flow—not force. Do not compensate by moving head and neck out of the way of wand. Get the mobility from your shoulders, elbows, and wrists. Modify range of motion as needed for safety. Keep pace slow and controlled on the cadence eight count rhythm…enjoy the rich history of health wands!
