Some values, in fact, can be better learned through the involvement in activities such as drama, music, and athletics, rather than in the classroom. Values such as fairness, caring, responsibility, and respect are the foundations of sportsmanship. The focus of high school athletics should be on the learning of these lifelong values. In order for these principles to be taught, it is critical that everyone – players, coaches, parents, and fans – conducts themselves in a sportsman-like manner. Unfortunately, the failure on the part of even one of these groups can undermine the efforts of others. Some individuals call the disrespect shown by taunting and trash talking as just “a part of the game.” If schools and communities are to justify programs, they must unite to let students, student-athletes, parents, spectators and communities know that disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated in our athletic programs. “Sportsmanship is defined as those qualities of behavior which are characterized by generosity and genuine concern for others.” That means a concern for every- one, including opposing teams, coaches, fans, and officials. To our parents: Please fill the stands in support of your sons and daughters, while realizing that high school athletics are a form of education, and that the score is not nearly as important as the lessons learned. To our fans: Please display a positive attitude at all times, doing your best to discourage cheers that taunt opposing teams, fans, and officials – cheers that distract from the focus of high school athletics. To our athletes: Remember that you volunteered to be a part of Rockford High School athletics, and that all of your ac- tions are a reflection on yourself, your team, your school, and the whole community. Please conduct yourself in a manner that brings honor and pride to the community of Rockford. And to everyone: Enjoy the game and remember – “Good Sports are Winners!” Tim Erickson Director of Athletics Laurie Terranova – Secretary Rockford High School Kevin O’Rourke – MS Athletics 5 ROCKFORD SPORTS BOOSTER PATRONS A special thanks to these people for their support Alferink Family Tony & Amy Himmelspader Gary & Kristin Parker Anderson Family Kurt & Carolyn Hintz Family Donald Pebley Family The Andrus Family Henckel Family Bob & Char Penz The Anthony Family Donald & Marilyn Holt Diane, Tyler & Greg Perkins Tom & Kathy Baker Steven & Sandee Holt Larry & Kay Peterson Gary Beaudoin Greg & Lori Horne Steve Peterson Family The Bera Family Howson Family Katie Phillips The Bertke Family John Hoyle Michael Phillips Michael Bigelow Family Steve & Pam Hume Hannah Postema Family Blackburn Family Irwin Family Jeanne Puterbaugh Jeff, Lori, Saylor & Sabrina Boss Earl & JoAnne Iseler Rand Putterman Betty Bradfield Rosemarie Jakeway Jason & Marci Rambo Family Bradfield Family Janssen Family Ted Reed Brechting Family Peter & Roberta Jelinek Barb Reed & Rick Updike Melissa Brower Chuck & Sheryl Johnson Family In Memory of Gloria Reed Fred & Terry Brown Andy Johnson Remtema Family Daniel Burns Chubbs Johnson’s Family The Reuthers Lorraine Bush Randy & Cherie Johnson Fred Riley Barry & Alida Bryant Family Patti Johnson Mark Roach Bryant Family Larry Jordon Suzi, Mike & Molly Robert Brian & Kristie Byrnes Kacsits Family Steve Romsek Deb Calkins Michael & Amy Kelley Family Debbie & Bruce Ronk Phil Carone Shirley Kern The Rose Family Dennis Cook Kinsey Family Jose Rubio Nellie Cook Jeremy & Ashleigh Kline Jim & Cheryl Scales David Conner Ronald Knapp Steve Scheffler The Coretti Family Kevin Koehn Schoff Family Chris Corey Marty & Patti Koehn Family Schultz Family Michelle Corey The Koning-Ogg Family The Sendzik Family Mary & Keith Corl Family Brian Kujala Family Showers Family Patti Cote’ Larry & Judy Kwast Bob, Michelle, Savahanna Smith Barbara Cribar Michael & Quincy Kwast The Soda Family Chris & Kim Cruickshank Nick, Stephani, Dominick, Alexis, Danielle, Jack Lamancusa Brandy Spegel & Children Jerry & Teresa Cummings Family Michelle Landback Mike & Patti Staley Eva Curtis & Family Andrew & Sharon Lang Joseph Stapf Family Paul & Rachel Curtis Tyler & Kristy Lecceadone Swayze Family Rick Czarnopys In Memory of Thomas R.
