Football West will livestream its first NPL WA match of the season on Saturday when Floreat Athena play Inglewood United at E&D Litis Stadium.

The game will be broadcast via the Football West Facebook page and FootballWestTV on YouTube. Kick off is 3pm. Floreat are seeking to extend their unbeaten league run to 12 matches, stretching back to last June.Coach Garrett McDulling came in for the second of those matches and not only has he not tasted defeat in the league, he also guided Athena to the Night Series title. But he won’t go any closer to losing his record than last week, when a 93rd minute own goal from Bayswater defender Adam Tong gave Floreat a 2-2 draw.

On paper Inglewood will be healthy outsiders but apart from the first half of their Round One loss to Bay- swater, they have looked a spirited outfit. That was evident last week when they fought back twice to draw 4-4 at Cockburn, first from 3-1 down and then after conceding an 89th-minute penalty to trail 4-3.

Hamza Hina came up with the goods in the seventh minute of added time. “I was just happy to prove the haters wrong and show we had the guts to come back,” he said. Armadale are the fledgling leaders after two straight wins and they have a second straight home game, this week against Glory.

In contrast bottom club Rockingham City couldn’t have it much tougher in their search for a first point, an away trip to champions Perth SC. Sorrento, who won a high-scoring game at ECU last week, face another side who have yet to register a point in Stirling Lions. Balcatta have had a mixed start, win- ning 4-0 against Rockingham then crashing 3-0 against Glory. Coach Goran Stajic knows things wont get any easier this weekend against Bayswater City.

In the other game both Cockburn City and ECU Joondalup will try to bounce back from their respective disappointments last week when they meet at Dalmatinac Park.

SEASON LAUNCH

 HEAD COACH REPORT

GARRETT McDULING

Welcome to all the players, supporters and officials of both Floreat Athena and Inglewood United to E&D Litis Stadium. We are ever so proud of our progress recently as a club over the last few months and have established a great culture here both on and off the pitch.

Whilst our aim is to be successful and win trophies on the pitch I have also endeavoured to try improve the culture and values of the senior squad players that will inspire and display to the younger teams with correct conduct at Athena. Recently we have had our first taste of silverware winning the night series and I have also witnessed an excellent display of the culture shift I have been aiming for at the club, where younger players eat together with senior players after training, ask questions and get mentored from older players and come to away games on different days to supports first team games for example during the night series and on Friday night at Bayswater.

After the euphoria of the Night Series success, we started the season against two high quality opponents. With great determination we were able to get a victory against a good quality Perth Glory side whilst playing with only 10 men. I am very pleased and proud of the character that the team showed in this game to go for the win when the opposition had the numerical advantage. Rob Petcov won man of the match putting in another solid shift helping us to a 2-1 win.

Last week’s Bayswater encounter was played out with the inevitable passion with our second away visit to their ground in a few weeks. As our team song goes “Athena boy are hard to beat” and they have shown this in a variety of ways lately. The nature of our resilience has been outstanding for example last week when we went down to ten men, we continued to chip away and work hard with what we have. We found our selves without 6 players for the Bayswater clash for various reasons and yet again it was not a reason for our players to turn up and lie down. We went 1-0 up and then found our selves 2-1 down after conceding a penalty and deep into time added on. This was another situation the players have not found themselves in since my time here at Athena.

It was a good test of character and the boys did not give up regardless of the circumstances or the time on the clock. Our pressure paid off and we were able to snatch a late goal and draw 2-2. Inglewood United found themselves in a very similar situation last week also away from home against Cockburn and had the ability to snatch a late goal very deep into stoppage time to draw 4-4. So today will be a fantastic test for both teams to try get the 3 points we were denied last weekend.

Thank you to my assistants Jim Dean and Tim Cash for the endless support you give me along with Dr Emma Black, Jesse Deas, Ethan Burke, David Kist and Jimmy Campbell for your excellent support in Ana- lytics and Sports Science. Finally I would like to thank the Club, the community and supporters for being part of this terrific journey and we hope to see the 2019 season reap great rewards. We hope for a great game today and to share a bite to eat and drink with the Inglewood United players and staff after the game in the Clubhouse. Enjoy the football today, Garrett McDuling Head Coach FIRST TEAM FAFC V IUFC

This season we have established a platform for developing players through the under 18 and under 20 squads to be able to play the next level and to love being part of the Floreat Athena culture. We have set up a strong support team to assist with the process and this is beneficial and appreciated. In the first two games of the season for the 20s, we have unfortunately been on the wrong side of the score line. Against Perth Glory we witnessed a high quality dis- play by Glory which we did not match on the day. From that game we grew and against Bayswater city, we played more to our expected standards but were edged out by the odd goal. The collective Athena coaching team see a great opportunity for the 20s players to both be successful in the 20s squad and to grow and be part of the first team. We hope for a great game today and I thank all the families/supporters who come to watch our team play; we hope to reward you today with a win. All the best and I look forward to seeing the Inglewood United team at the post match function. Tim Cash Coach under 20s
