Having gone to the south side of the Cabeco aer lunch with their flocks, and being more aentive to the words of the Angel, they immediately knelt down to pray the prayer taught them by the Angel: “My God, I believe, I adore, etc…” Lucia reports: “Aer we had repeated this prayer I don’t know how many times we saw a strange light shining over us. We lied our heads to see what was hap- pening. The Angel was holding in his le hand a chalice and over it, in the air, was a host from which drops of blood fell into the chalice. The Angel le the chalice suspended in mid-air, knelt near us and told us to repeat three times: ‘O Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, I adore Thee profoundly, and I offer Thee the Most Pre- cious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences by which He is offended. And by the infinite merits of His most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg the conversion of poor sinners.’ “Aer that he rose and took again in his hand the chalice and the host. The host he gave to me and the contents of the chalice he gave to Jacinta and Francisco, saying at the same time: ‘Eat and drink the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ terribly outraged by the ingratitude of men. Offer repa- ration for their sakes and console God.’ “Once more he bowed to the ground repeating with us the same prayer thrice: ‘O Most Holy Trinity, etc…’ “and disappeared. Overwhelmed by the supernatural atmosphere that enveloped us, we imitated the Angel in every- thing, kneeling prostrate as he did and repeating the prayers he said.” It was in this way that being catechized in prayer, reparative suffering, and the doctrine of the Holy Eucharist, and strengthened by the Bread of Angels, the children of Fatima were prepared for the visitation of the Queen of Portugal, the Immaculate Virgin Mary. “The Angel of Portugal at Fátima” By Fr. Reprinted from http://www.glbtq.com Father Mychal Judge devoted his life to the care and service of others, including those marginalized by society. He ministered to AIDS patients and was a chaplain for Dignity, an organization of gay and lesbian Roman Catholics. He was also a chaplain for the Fire Department of New York City and died in the line of duty at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Father Mychal Judge's parents, Michael Judge and Mary Fallon, were both from County Leitrim, Ireland, but only met and fell in love on board the ship that was bringing them to a new life in the United States in the 1920s. They married and settled in Brooklyn, where Mr. Judge ran a neighborhood grocery store. Mychal Judge, their second child and only son, was born on May 11, 1933, two days before the arrival of his twin sister, Dympna. Judge was given the name Robert Emmett at baptism. He would adopt a new one upon entering the Franciscan order. When Judge was only a small child, his father fell gravely ill and was hospitalized for three years. Since children were not allowed as hospital visitors, Judge and his sisters were limited to exchanging waves with their father when he could come to the window of his room. The senior Judge died when his son was six. Throughout his life, Mychal Judge regretted that he had "never called anyone 'Dad'" or gotten to know his father.

And keep me out of your way." –– Fr. Mychal Judge Fr. Mychal was a beloved priest who made his way through the streets of New York in his Franciscan robes and sandals at all hours of the day and night. Gregarious and mischievous, he had a knack for telling great stories and bursting into old Irish standards at the drop of a hat. As well-known to the city’s mayor as he was to the homeless and the hungry, Fr. Mychal was a streetwise pastor, counselor, and peacemaker very much in touch with human vulnerability. Families wanted their babies baptized by him; firefighters arranged their marriages according to his schedule; and many prayed that he would officiate their funerals – especially gay men dying from AIDS. He left a deep impression on all who encountered him. Fr. Mychal was a regular at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and often spoke about the gift of sobriety. He was also open about being gay with the friars whom he felt he could trust and his friends from the gay Catholic group Dignity/New York, though he lamented in his diary "I thought of my gay self and how the people I meet never get to know me fully." He served as Chaplain to the New York Fire Department, and was particularly close to the firefighters of Engine 1-Ladder 24, whose firehouse was across the street from the friary where he lived.

    Memories of 9/11 linger for New York fire department chaplain Msgr. John Delendick, a longtime New York Fire Department chaplain who is currently pastor of St. Jude Church in Brooklyn, remembers Sept. 11, 2001, vividly. At the time of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, Msgr. Delendick had just finished celebrating Mass at St. Michael’s Church in Brooklyn where he was pastor. He jumped in his car and drove as close as he could get and then walked to the scene. When he got to the twin towers, he ran into other fire department colleagues, including first deputy commissioner William Feehan, who was later killed in the collapse. He also gave absolution to a police officer who ran to him amid a dark cloud of debris and smoke, asking the priest to hear his confession. He also recalls learning that his colleague and fellow fire chaplain, Franciscan Rev. Mychal Judge, was among the first known victims of the South Tower’s collapse. “That day, I don’t even know the order of what all happened … Someone just handed me (Father Judge’s) helmet and told me he was killed,” he said. SEPTEMBER 11 AND CHRISTIAN SPIRITUALITY IN THE UNITED STATES Thomas Hughson HE EVENTS OF SEPTEMBER 11 2001 have altered the lives of people T throughout the world, not just in the United States and in Afghanistan. This brief article, however, focuses on the experience of Christians in the United States. Thousands of families, predominantly middle- and low-income, lost husbands, wives, children and friends, whether on the aircraft, in the World Trade Center or at the Pentagon. If the victims represented the US population at large, over 90% were Christians; others were Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, or Buddhist; some may have had no specific religious affiliation. But this may not be fully accurate, because citizens from more than 60 nations perished when the World Trade Center towers came down. Al-Quaida’s meticulously planned, low- tech assault changed everyday life in the US. Defence measures were tightened; security measures at borders, in airports, and aboard planes became more stringent. Civilian flight crews and airline passengers assumed the worst about any aggressive behaviour, and acted against it. Soon some commentators noticed that people in public spaces seemed to feel more connected to one another, especially in New York. Others remarked that ambitious young women and men were talking about a new focus on family life and friendships.

The American National Catholic Church is pleased to announce the opening of the Friar Mychal Judge Pastoral Center in Northern Virginia. Through pastoral visits, an online prayer forum, and wake and funeral services, the ministry is an outreach to the sick and the terminally ill (www.FriarJudge.org). The Center is named after Franciscan priest, Father Mychal Judge who died while offering prayer and comfort to injured New York City firefighters inside the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. He became the first officially-recorded fatality following the attack. The Most Reverend George R. Lucey, FCM, presiding bishop of the American National Catholic Church commented that this outreach to the sick is most appropriately named after Fr. Mychal. “As fellow Franciscans, we find in Fr. Mychal a contemporary priest who while wresting with his own private challenges touched others in a profound and Christ-like way. We know that the spirit of ‘The Saint of 9/ 11’ will guide this new ministry.” “For me, this is natural extension of three decades in healthcare,” stated Deacon Bill Freeman the new coordinator of the Center. “In the sprit of Fr.
