They are the eyes and members. 2015 is going to be an exciting year. ears of their community and they have also given support and recommendations to the Board ensuring that the Nita Ropata-Riki vision and goals of Otara Health are achieved. Community Advisory Group Chairperson

This Group was originally mandated by the Otara community when the organisation moved from its status as an Incorporated Society to one of a Charitable Trust. The aim was to continue the organisation’s goal of Members of the Community accountability to its community. Today, the Board Advisory Group: members and General Manager remain supportive and committed to the initial values that initiated the creation of Nita Ropata-Riki – Chair and Maori this group. Representative

Maintaining consistent membership of the Community Maggie Kemp – Health Representative Advisory Group has been a problem in past years. Joseph Liava’a – Health Representative However we have now been able to establish consistency of members and attendance and this has resulted in a Lin Kaiou – Social Service Representative more positive direction for the group where they have Elizabeth Tiumalu – Samoan been able to provide valuable feedback on future Otara Representative Health projects. This commitment of members along with robust participation has helped strengthen the link Fane Tu’iha’angana – Tongan between the Otara community and Otara Health. Representative

As Chairperson of the Community Advisory Group, I am Tai Tupa – Cook Island Representative very excited about the plans that we have put together to Louisa Lavakula – Niuean Representative ensure an even more cohesive and collaborative approach not only to the possible new projects for the organisation but also to meet the aspirations of the Group members and community.

The challenge is always present for community organisations in being able to make a positive and meaningful impact on the underlying factors that result in the statistical information reflecting the current status of their struggling communities and ethnic groups. The ability to influence these statistics positively for our community continues to be a motivating factor for the Community Advisory Group members who have recently participated and contributed to the development of a new Strategic Plan for Otara Health.

Community Advisory Group members meet quarterly and make every effort to convey the needs of their community at these meetings. Their leadership role is also to extend their expertise and experiences to support the work carried out by the staff and management of Otara Health, ensuring that the services provided help to address current issues.

The Community Advisory Group will continue to raise concerns and issues so that our families can have full access to comprehensive health and social services.

We are continually appreciative of our friends, families, neighbours, and all the other people that make up our Neighbourhood Support Groups Neighbours Otara community who give us inspiration to do the NeighbourhoodDay celebrations Support Groups Neighbours absolute best within this role.
