Whose Line Is It Anyway? Australia Cast Announced Local Version of Popular Format Filming in Melbourne for Aussie Audiences Media Release: Tuesday July 19, 2016 Whose Line Is It Anyway? Australia Cast Announced Local version of popular format filming in Melbourne for Aussie audiences New Foxtel series Whose Line Is It Anyway? Australia announces its ensemble cast of seven exciting and talented performers. Comedy superstar Rhys Darby is joined by comedy festival favourites Cal Wilson, Tegan Higginbotham and Susie Youssef, along with world-class improviser Steen Raskopoulos, and newcomers Bridie Connell and Tom Walker. Currently filming in Melbourne, Whose Line Is It Anyway? Australia adds a local twist to the world- famous improvisational comedy show with a hilarious line-up of popular comedians and new faces, all led by series host Tommy Little. Energetic and unpredictable, it’s Whose Line but not as you’ve seen it before. Actor and stand up comedian from New Zealand, Rhys Darby, is best known as the hapless, well- meaning band manager, Murray, from HBO’s cult hit Flight of the Conchords. Rhys is currently based in Los Angeles with his family where he has appeared on US TV shows including How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family, Wrecked, Voltron and The X-Files. Rhys has toured Australia several times in live shows and has starred in films Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do in the Shadows. A world class stand up with more than twenty years of improv under her belt, Cal Wilson brings a wealth of experience to Whose Line. Cal is one of Australia’s most popular stand ups with sold out seasons across the country and two successful runs in Edinburgh. One of the few Australians to have appeared on Stephen Fry’s QI, Cal regularly appears on television including Have You Been Paying Attention, Spicks and Specks, Thank God You’re Here, Good News Week, and many more. Steen Raskopoulos’ unique one man multi character sketch comedy festival shows have scored him nominations for “Best Newcomer” in Edinburgh and for “Best Show” in Melbourne. Steen has done more than anyone to lead a renaissance of improv in Australia – his long form “Bear Pack” shows fill the Giant Dwarf Theatre in Sydney and have sold out in the Melbourne Comedy Festival. He has sold out three West End seasons and starred in the BBC Series Top Coppers. An internationally trained improviser with sold out Comedy Festival shows to her name, Susie Youssef’s comedy is as dry as a martini with endearing warmth that draws you in for her deft upper hook. Susie’s improv skills have been honed at the legendary iO Theatre in Chicago – training ground to improv superstars Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Stephen Colbert and Mike Myers – and where cast-mate Steen also cut his teeth. Tegan Higginbotham is the youngest veteran on the comedy scene, this year was her tenth Melbourne Comedy Festival and she’s still in her twenties. Multi-talented and properly funny, Tegan has presented several acclaimed solo stand up shows and is part of the legendary sketch group “Watson”, who haven’t seen an empty seat in years. Tegan has been seen on Spicks and Specks, Thank God You’re Here, Have You Been Paying Attention?, and in films Molly, Oddball, and Holding the Man. A star of the Sydney improv scene and a regular at The Chaser’s Giant Dwarf Theatre, Bridie Connell has performed sold out solo shows at the Sydney Comedy Festival and Sydney Fringe Festival, and has previously won the National Theatresports Championship. A true triple threat, Bridie can act, sing and dance, winning a scholarship to study Musical Theatre at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York. Tom Walker is peculiar, hilarious and wonderfully physical. Walker trained in Paris at the prestigious acting and clown school École Philippe Gaulier, which boasts the likes of Sacha Baron Cohen and Emma Thompson as alumni. A National Theatresports Champion and stage companion to Steen and Bridie, Tom won “Best Newcomer” at the 2016 Melbourne Comedy Festival with his deeply odd and incredibly funny character show. Ten-part series Whose Line Is It Anyway? Australia is filmed in front of a live audience in Melbourne exclusively for Foxtel to premiere in the second half of 2016 only on The Comedy Channel. Cast Biographies RILEY KEOUGH (Christine Reade) Riley Keough, 26, is one of Hollywood’s rising stars. At the age of 12, she appeared in her first campaign for Tommy Hilfiger and at the age of 15 she ignited a media firestorm when she walked the runway for Christian Dior. From a young age, Riley wanted to explore her talents within the film industry, and by the age of 19 she dedicated herself to developing her acting craft for the camera. In 2010, she made her big-screen debut as Marie Currie in The Runaways starring opposite Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning. People took notice; shortly thereafter, she starred alongside Orlando Bloom in The Good Doctor, directed by Lance Daly. Riley’s memorable work in the film, which premiered at the Tribeca film festival in 2010, earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Milan International Film Festival in 2012. Riley’s talents landed her a title-lead as Jack in Bradley Rust Gray’s werewolf flick Jack and Diane. She also appeared alongside Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey in Magic Mike, directed by Steven Soderbergh, which grossed nearly $167 million worldwide. Further in 2011, she completed work on director Nick Cassavetes’ film Yellow, starring alongside Sienna Miller, Melanie Griffith and Ray Liota, as well as the Xan Cassavetes film Kiss of the Damned. As her camera talent evolves alongside her creative growth, so do the roles she is meant to play. Recently, she was the lead in the highly-anticipated fourth installment of director George Miller’s cult- classic Mad Max - Mad Max: Fury Road alongside a distinguished cast comprising of Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Zoe Kravitz and Nick Hoult.

  • LOVE BIRDS (102 Min) Directed by Paul Murphy Starring Rhys Darby, Sally Hawkins, Emily Barclay
REVIEW: THE LOVE BIRDS (102 min) Directed by Paul Murphy Starring Rhys Darby, Sally Hawkins, Emily Barclay After playing wingman to Flight of the Conchords and salesman for many others (as well as appearances in Jim Carrey's Yes Man and Brit comedy The Boat That Rocked), Rhys Darby finally gets a film to call his own. While his post-Murray screen career has largely depended on his FOTC role or his manic stand-up persona, here, he's the straight guy in a very straight movie. Though the film gives him a lame, if very cute, duck as a sidekick, chirpy goofy English actress Sally Hawkins as a love interest and a Queen soundtrack which does threaten to turn this into We Will Rock You: The Movie. But the songs generate some of the biggest laughs in what is an endearingly funny, if sugar-coated local romantic comedy. And one which seems to have a surfeit of supporting characters, and a weak opening among its flaws. Oh and some intrusive product placement. It is a very nice advertisement for Auckland too, though it might be best to see it outside the city where your fellow cinema patrons aren't cooing "'oooh look Northcote" to each other. And in one memorable scene it puts a fine case for a cycle lane on the harbour bridge. With his various comic foils, web-footed and otherwise, it allows Darby to restrain himself and carry the film as its romantic lead, one who doesn't have much in common with Hugh Grant, as has been the film's sales pitch, but whoe resembles a distant cousin to Hugh Jackman.

www.comedychannel.com.au OCTOBER 2008 HIGHLIGHTS THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW WORLD PREMIERE Thursday October 2 @ 8.30pm Continues Thursdays at 8.30pm Merrick and Rosso are back on the box where they belong, with the keys to the Foxtel car - and enough fuel in the tank to really cause some chaos! They’ll finally return to their broadcasting birth place at The Comedy Channel with THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW. So what’s on the cards for the new show? Each week the boys will front up before a live studio audience with their unique take on anything and everything. From what’s happening in the world of news to the big questions: Can you deep fry a watermelon? On THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW, celebrities will make regular guest appearances from in-studio interviews to recorded comedy pieces to show you a side of them never before seen. Into the mix will go plenty of studio audience interaction and more mayhem and stupidity than is legal in three states. For perhaps the first time, Merrick Watts and Tim Ross will truly focus the energy and excitement of their legendary sell-out live comedy shows and bring that force to the electric television. It’s hotter than Gordon Ramsay’s kitchen, is sure to top Brendan Nelson’s approval ratings and it’s ‘wronger’ than an Austrian family get-together. THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW will allow nobody to be immune from their parodies and sketch comedy. Finally, as Merrick and Rosso are keen to point out, “Put simply, the show is Morcambe and Wise meets The Star Wars Christmas Special at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting during The French Renaissance… on a weeknight.” Buckle up Australia, for a riotous half hour of THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW.
