IBM Europe, Middle East, and Africa Software Announcement ZP09-0396, dated October 6, 2009 IBM Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino 8.5.1 include many features and enhancements that improve usability for both the end user and developers Table of contents 1 Overview 8 Technical information 2 Key prerequisites 17 Ordering information 2 Planned availability date 34 Terms and conditions 3 Description 37 Prices 7 Program number 38 Announcement countries 7 Publications 39 Corrections At a glance IBM® Lotus Notes® and Lotus® Domino® 8.5.1 includes many features and enhancements that improve the usability of the solutions for both the end user (Lotus Notes, Lotus iNotesTM, and Lotus Notes Traveler) and developers (Domino Designer). • Lowers the barrier to collaborative business applications • Build once for universal client access to collaborative applications • Makes Notes® your productivity dashboard using out-of-the-box integration of your existing IBM Lotus (Sametime®, QuickrTM, Protector), third-party and partner assets • Increased turn-key solutions and developer resources to help maximize your return on investment Overview IBM Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5.1 now includes many new features and enhancements. The first major change expands on options for building or expanding on Domino applications. Domino Designer will now be freely accessible in IBM developerWorks® for no charge. This expansion in access brings Domino's RAD tool to a broader community of developers aimed at increasing the solutions that are available for the Domino platform. The second major change for this release is a repackaging of Domino client solutions in order to simplify the purchasing options to better align with how people work vs. what they need to complete their work. The Domino client options are delivered as a client access license (CAL), where access to the Domino platform is put into two categories: Enterprise CAL and Messaging CAL. • The Enterprise CAL unleashes the full value of Domino for accessing Domino applications through any of the clients for desktop (IBM Lotus Notes), Web (IBM Lotus iNotes), and mobile (IBM Lotus Notes Traveler). Any of the clients can be used to access the multitude of applications developed in house via IBM Lotus Domino Designer or by independent software vendors (ISVs). In addition, Enterprise CAL includes Domino Designer, where the right to publish applications built within Designer to a Domino server is included. This CAL also includes entitlement to IBM Lotus Quickr Entry, IBM Lotus Sametime Entry, IBM Europe, Middle East, and Africa IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 1 Software Announcement ZP09-0396 IBM Lotus Symphony and IBM Lotus Mobile Connect clients (where an additional server purchase is required to deploy a VPN solution that supports all access points via either client-less or client-based VPN connections). • The Messaging CAL is a limited use option that also provides access for the clients Lotus Notes, Lotus iNotes, and Lotus Notes Traveler, but limits the access to messaging, calendar and scheduling, personal information management (local address book and personal journal), blogging, discussion databases and reference databases. This CAL also includes entitlements to Lotus Quickr Entry, Lotus Sametime Entry, and Lotus Symphony. The third major change for this release includes a vast array of features for accessing data across the form factors (desktop, mobile and Web). This release includes many features and enhancements that improve the usability of the solutions for both the end user (Lotus Notes, Lotus iNotes, and Lotus Notes Traveler) and developers (Domino Designer). • Lowers the barrier to collaborative business applications – Expands the Notes and Domino developer ecosystem through no charge developer tools – Leverages industry-standard Web development skills and utilizes existing Notes and Domino skills • Build once for universal client access to collaborative applications – Harness the power of Web 2.0 from both browser or Lotus Notes client for both online and offline productivity – Accelerate your time-to-business value using a visual and iterative development style • Make Notes your productivity dashboard using out-of-the-box integration of your existing, IBM Lotus (Sametime, Quickr, Protector), third party, and partner assets – Ready-to-use components for Notes apps, Web apps, Host on Demand apps, and native third-party apps – Automate business processes on the client side in less time • Increased turn-key solutions and developer resources to help maximize your return on investment – "There's a widget for that!" - New Lotus online catalog creates a marketplace for BPs to showcase solutions to customers. – Revitalized OpenNTF provides collaborative community for open source development and reusable assets.
