2021- a game-changing year for satellite connectivity

Access on a global scale to high quality, reliable broadband is increasingly an essential service for consumers, enterprises and public services alike. The COVID crisis has further accelerated this trend; as it has rapidly established new norms for how people live, work and communicate. The need for broadband has become even more critical in enabling people to work from home, to continue to access education and other vital information, and simply, to remain in touch.

In this context, satellite is stepping in to fill the gap where terrestrial infrastructure is yet to go or is simply unable to go at a reasonable cost. Evolving technology means satellite connectivity can provide a reliable, accessible and cost-effective solution for the millions of businesses and individuals throughout the world who are living on the wrong side of the digital divide. Eutelsat is among the world leaders in the provision of consumer broadband by satellite.

CONNECTIVITY – FIXED BROADBAND

Eutelsat’s High Throughput Satellites, Very High Throughput Satellites and payloads are key solutions to bridging the digital divide as they are optimised to deliver affordable and high- quality broadband to consumers, professionals and companies beyond range of fibre and ADSL.

EUTELSAT KONNECT

• In Europe, the EUTELSAT KONNECT satellite, in service since November 2020, provides full or partial coverage of 15 countries. It targets European homes with poor quality Internet connections, or those who simply do not have one. By 2030, there will be 4 million such homes. As proof of the service's potential, Orange has already committed to buying all the satellite capacity dedicated to mainland France, as has Telecom Italia for . The two operators will distribute their respective capacities in addition to fiber in sparsely populated areas. Eutelsat has also developed its own retail network for broadband services through its subsidiary konnect in the following countries: Germany, Spain, Ireland, Portugal and the United Kingdom.

• In the beginning of 2022, Eutelsat will launch an even more powerful satellite to address the connectivity market: a next new generation Very High Throughput satellite; KONNECT VHTS, whose 230 spot-beams and overall capacity of some 500 Gbps will provide two-way broadband connectivity across Europe and further afield. KONNECT VHTS will be a game changer, enabling Eutelsat to provide fiber-like connectivity to the end user at fiber-like pricing.

• In sub-Saharan Africa, the recent entry into service of EUTESAT KONNECT satellite, whose capacity also greatly serves 39 African countries, now offers increased capacity in very high bandwidth, guaranteeing more powerful speeds. The konnect subsidiary will also support the retail distribution of affordable broadband services in targeted countries part of EUTELSAT KONNECT’s footprint.

• In Russia, the EUTELSAT 36C satellite is equipped with a High Throughput payload covering Western Russia and offering broadband services through local providers.

• In Latin America, Eutelsat operates a High Throughput payload on the EUTELSAT 65 West A satellite in Ka-band. The payload is leased to EchoStar whose Hughes do Brazil affiliate provides broadband services in Brazil.

MOBILE CONNECTIVITY

Clients using Eutelsat’s infrastructure to provide In-flight Connectivity and Entertainment (IFEC) services to commercial airlines include China Unicom, Panasonic, Viasat, Taqnia, Gogo and Global Eagle. Eutelsat‘s portfolio of assets for Mobile Connectivity (in-flight and maritime) are concentrated mainly at the 3° East, 10° East, 117° West and 172° East positions.

In June 2017, Eutelsat has launched the EUTELSAT 172B satellite that features a High Throughput payload over the Pacific Ocean region. This satellite is Panasonic and China Unicom’ key growth platform for inflight broadband and live TV for airlines in the Asia-Pacific region.

Thanks to high-power resources, new-generation satellites EUTELSAT KONNECT VHTS and EUTELSAT 10B will open new opportunities for in-flight connectivity businesses over Europe from 2023.

Eutelsat is the trusted partner for mobility services across the maritime world from commercial shipping, sea-based oil and gas operations, governmental ships and luxury vessels. Via its own satellite resources and through partnerships with other satellite operators, Eutelsat provides fleets and individual vessels the connectivity and infrastructure they need, wherever they need it. VSAT technology for example, provides corporate class networking services, interconnectivity and real- time data applications for all businesses, leisure and crew welfare needs.

The current COVID crisis and its attendant impact on travel has seen an immediate and severe impact for mobile connectivity, particularly aero-mobility, where all operators have experienced temporary declines in the level of volume-related revenues. Maritime mobility on the other hand is holding up well, with the exception of the cruise and leisure segments, and continues to underpin demand. The timing of recovery in the aero market remains uncertain, but Eutelsat is confident that it will see a resumption of growth in the medium term, with the restart of air travel and the ever-increasing demand for high-quality internet access everywhere by passengers.

DATA & PROFESSIONAL VIDEO

EGNOS: A ground-breaking satellite augmentation system for Europe

The European GNSS Agency (GSA) has selected Eutelsat for the development, integration and operation of its next-generation satellite navigation overlay services, EGNOS GEO-3 and GEO-4. Operational since February 2020, EGNOS GEO-3 was launched aboard EUTELSAT 5 West B in October 2019. The EGNOS GEO-4 payload will be hosted aboard the EUTELSAT HOTBIRD 13G satellite.

EGNOS is Europe's regional satellite-based augmentation system. It is currently used to improve the performance of GPS and will augment Galileo from 2025 onwards. EGNOS was deployed to provide safety of life navigation services to aviation, maritime and land-based users. EGNOS uses GNSS (Global navigation satellite system) measurements taken by reference stations deployed mainly across Europe and North Africa. These measurements are transferred to a central computing centre where differential corrections and integrity messages are calculated. These calculations are then broadcast over the covered area using geostationary satellites that serve as an augmentation, or overlay, to the original GNSS message. The information provided by EGNOS improves the accuracy and reliability of GNSS positioning information while also providing a crucial integrity message.

UPCOMING SATELLITE LAUNCHES

Eutelsat’s fleet expansion programme is designed to ensure the early replacement of satellites and to increase flexibility and quality of service. This strategy enables Eutelsat to provide service continuity, maintain a high level of infrastructure reliability and capture new market opportunities.

EUTELSAT’S CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PILLARS

Eutelsat is committed to a dynamic policy of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) considering corporate social, environmental and economic issues as key to the success of its operations and strategy. The Group has adopted a set of undertakings based on principles that are ingrained within its DNA:

BRIDGING THE DIGITAL DIVIDE Eutelsat is concerned with three major areas to help bridge the digital divide: delivering internet services to consumers, professionals and governmental agencies in areas with limited or no access to terrestrial networks; serving specific requirements by addressing the challenges of public policies with regard to digital inclusion; and promoting access to free-to-air television for all households.

In early 2020, Eutelsat’s subsidiary konnect undertook to connect thousands of schools to the Internet in partnership with Schoolap and Flash Services in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The project aims to provide schools with high speed Internet connectivity, giving them access to a digital platform of officially recognised educational content and high-quality teaching materials.

In the Americas, Eutelsat provides capacity for various social connectivity programmes, notably in

Mexico and Colombia. These are designed to connect rural communities and give them access to a broad range of services (schools, hospitals, libraries, etc.).

ENGAGEMENT WITH OUR STAKEHOLDERS Placing greater emphasis on the principles governing Eutelsat’s operations is particularly necessary as its activities are increasingly complex, span several continents and involve more and more players who have their own values and cultures. Eutelsat therefore undertakes to foster a culture of integrity in order to prevent all unlawful or unethical acts and to do business responsibly and ethically.

OUR PEOPLE The group is committed to creating a diverse and international corporate culture, uniting employees around the idea of shared practices and values, attracting and retaining talent and ensuring good working conditions.

In December 2020, Eutelsat decided to support the young generation as the pandemic has taken a toll on their career aspirations, by launching ‘Eutelsat Job Booster’, a drive to recruit 30 young graduates, across all fields of activity within the company.

In keeping with its commitment to foster diversity, Eutelsat is supporting JA Worldwide, an association whose initiatives seek to attract young people to science and technology, while helping them along their career paths. Eutelsat's partnership with JA Worldwide seeks to develop the entrepreneurial skills of girls by strengthening the links between school and the corporate world.

OUR PLANET AND SPACE Protecting the environment and ensuring the space around Earth remains clean and uncluttered society.

Satellite fleet management, space congestion and the environmental impact of a satellite’s life cycle is a key component of the environmental policy. The Group applies a responsible fleet management approach in close partnership with satellite manufacturers and launch service providers to mitigate satellites’ environmental impacts and conducts a proactive policy to reduce space debris.
