MEGER CREATES A NEW ONE-STOP PHOTOGRAPHIC EVENT SHOP This summer saw the merger of two photographic event companies, BALPPA member Immedia Imaging and Dreamtime Events, to form Magenta Star Ltd. Based in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, the new venture brings together all the services offered by both companies, including digital photography for holiday parks, Christmas grottos, shopping centres, major events and leisure destinations. "For both companies, it was too good an opportunity to miss,” said Nick Richardson, Magenta Star’s Managing Director. “The business can now grow further and faster by bringing two complementary sets of skills and disciplines under the one banner. Now we can handle larger, more complex contracts - the benefits will be huge all round." Previously Immedia and Dreamtime operated in similar market places while meeting different needs. Immedia's primary focus was on holiday destinations and the summer season with clients including Haven and Center Parcs while Dreamtime mainly operated in Christmas grotto and specialist locations, working with shopping centres such as intu and Westfield. "This is great for our clients, as we're bringing together the best in the business for them - including great products, specialist support and event or location management,” Nick explained. “While the technology and systems are important, this is all going to add up to an even better experience for visitors, participants and holidaymakers, which is what we're all about." • Historic Amusement Parks and Fairground Rides Introductions to Heritage Assets Summary
Historic Amusement Parks and Fairground Rides Introductions to Heritage Assets Summary Historic England’s Introductions to Heritage Assets (IHAs) are accessible, authoritative, illustrated summaries of what we know about specific types of archaeological site, building, landscape or marine asset. Typically they deal with subjects which lack such a summary. This can either be where the literature is dauntingly voluminous, or alternatively where little has been written. Most often it is the latter, and many IHAs bring understanding of site or building types which are neglected or little understood. Many of these are what might be thought of as ‘new heritage’, that is they date from after the Second World War. With origins that can be traced to annual fairs and 18th-century pleasure grounds, and much influenced by America’s Coney Island amusement park of the 1890s, England has one of the finest amusement park and fairground ride heritages in the world. A surprising amount survives today. The most notable site is Blackpool Pleasure Beach, in Lancashire, which has an unrivalled heritage of pre-1939 fairground rides. Other early survivals in England include scenic railways at Margate and Great Yarmouth, and water splash rides in parks at Kettering, Kingston-upon-Hull and Scarborough that date from the 1920s. This guidance note has been written by Allan Brodie and edited by Paul Stamper. It is one is of several guidance documents that can be accessed HistoricEngland.org.uk/listing/selection-criteria/listing-selection/ihas-buildings/ Published by Historic England June 2015. Our founder, Ald. W.G. Bean, declared his intention to “found an American style Amusement Park where adults can feel like children again”. And so developed a world-class attraction designed to attract “children” of all ages from 1 to 101. Still in the same family ownership, the park is now under the control of Ald. Bean’s great grandchildren, Amanda and Nick Thompson, who have undertaken to do their very best to welcome guests with disabilities by providing a comprehensive selection of shows, rides and attractions, games, arcades, shops and comfortable restaurants. We have, where reasonable and proportionate, and having due regard to the age, location and technical nature of our rides and attractions, tried to ensure access for all but whilst this has not been possible in all areas we are sure you will appreciate and enjoy a range of exciting rides and enthralling shows.
