FOREWORD

The Micro, Small and, Medium Enterprises, Development Institute (earlier called SISI), under Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India, is one of the prime organizations in , engaged in the promotion and development of Industries in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. As a part of the promotional and developmental activities, the Institute conducts studies on the Status and performance of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the State. The District profile is one such report compiled and updated under District Industry Development Plan of the Institute assigned by Office of the Development Commissioner (SSI), New Delhi. This report contains the present status of economy, geographical information, statistical data relating to MSME’s in each district, salient features of the progress of the different sectors of the each district of Karnataka and performance of industries particularly in Micro, Small and Medium industries.

Industrial Profile of District

1. Introduction & General Characteristics of the District:  It is a newly created district, craved out of the existing district, located in the southern part of Karnataka.  District headquarter - Chikkaballapur (50 km from Bangalore  Providing connectivity to key business centers: Chikkaballapur is a key transport link to  North Bangalore due to origin of several national highways and is a regional transport and educational hub.  Spread across 6 Talukas - Gowribidanur, , Begepalli, Chikkaballapur, Sidlaghattand Chintamani  It is a major producer for grape, grain and silk  Rich in agriculture, horticultural and livestock resources  Major developments include: Silk city –with investment of INR 70 Crore in the district

1.5 Administrative set up. Spread across 6 Talukas – Gowribidanur, Gudibande, Begepalli, Chikkaballapur, and Chintamani with two subdivisions at Chikaballapura and Gowribidanur. One sub division with Asst.Commissioner exist.

1.6 Infrastructure

 2689 Acres Land Bank identified and notified in Chintamani, Gowribidanur and Chikkaballapur  2 Industrial Area, 4 Industrial Estates in the district  Silk City project, BIAL investment region, Olympic standard sport village has greater contribution to the economy of the country

Tourism:

 Nandi Hills: About 4850 ft. above sea level. Rich in greenery and natures paradise. One of the hot spots for tourists, trekkers and campers alike.  Tippu’s Summer Residence: Also known as Tashk-e-Jannat (Heaven’s Envy), a beautiful palace resembling the Dariya Daulat at Srirangapatna was built in 1791 on top of Nandi Hills. The fort has five arches with minarets owing the art and architecture of Tippu’s regime  Ranganatha Swamy temple: It is locally known as Rangasthala and is 5 Km west of downtown Chikkaballapur.  Taluk Viduraswatha Temple: About 5k.m from Gauribidanur Town. And Minakanagurki Temple is about 20 k.m. from Gauribidanaur.

 Amara Narayanaswamy Temple, Narayanappa general is called as Kaiwara Thatayya,, Kailasagiri Temple is located at Kaiwara is about 15 km. from Chintamani and 60 km from Bangalore.  Sree Venkataramanaswamy temple at Gadadam in Taluk.  Famous Darga at Murugamalla ,.  Lake, Temple and Old Fort at Kumanayakanahalli,Bagepalli Taluk  : It is the birth place of Sir.M.Visweswaraih, one of the India's most accomplished engineers. There is a beautiful and picturesque memorial of Sir M. V. located on the family-owned land at Muddenahalli, with the Nandi Hills as a backdrop
