Jazz by kids - tomorrow's professionals

Little Giants is an outstanding project run by renown Cape Town musicians pianist George Werner and sax player Ezra Ngcukana. Kids and adolescents from the suburbs of Cape Town learn about their rich musical heritage by studying their chosen instruments and playing in small and large ensembles. Although they are between the age of 11 and 19 years, they sound like veterans. And they are cooking! The Little Giants are the first result of IMAD, Institute for Music and Indigenous Arts Development is offering accessible and affordable music education in formerly disadvantaged areas. – “Adopt a learner”: sponsors may support a pupil personally by finanzing private music lessons or an instrument.

Jazz Potjie – it's in the mix

The New York "Melting Pot" mercilessly merges all cultural ingredients whereas a Cape Town potjie (spoken: Poiki) delivers a far more sophisticated taste. A potjie is a traditional South African stew which you cook over fire in a huge cast iron pot. You add all the ingredients according to their cooking time one after the other. Never stir! - The taste of a potjie is just stunning. Overall you may only enjoy a stew, but you will, also, perceive the nuance of every single ingredient and the meal will explode on your palate as the most complex adventure, experienced.
