He was introduced at a press conference on January 24. Donovan will make his debut with the San Diego Sockers at home when they face off against the Tacoma Stars on February 15, 2019 at 7:35 pm PT. Donovan joins the Sockers after a brief stint with Mexico’s Club León. Prior to that, he played 14 seasons in the MLS with both LA Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes, during which time he won 6 MLS Cups and became the league’s all-time top scorer. Donovan has also made 157 appearances with the US Men’s National Team and is the highest scoring male soccer player in US World Cup History. With the acquisition of Donovan, MASL marks yet another high caliber signing and continues to establish its reputation as a competitive force within US soccer landscape. The MASL now boasts 17 teams across the United States, Canada and Mexico. “Landon Donovan is not only a world class player, but he’s also been a big ambassador for the sport of soccer in San Diego. We’re thrilled that he’s decided to join our squad and continue his mission to make San Diego a top soccer city,” says San Diego Sockers owner Phil Salvagio. “We are thrilled to announce that one of the greatest soccer stars in US history is joining the Major Arena Soccer League,” said MASL commissioner Joshua Schaub. “Quality signings like Landon and Dwayne DeRosario bring an entirely new level of professionalism and recognition to this league and to arena soccer as a whole. In his third season with San Diego, Escoto led the team with 10 goals and 6 assists for 16 total points in January. This includes the game-winning overtime goal against the Ontario Fury on January 5. Escoto helped the Sockers go 6-0 for the month and 10-1 overall for the season. ROAD WARRIORS The Sockers are 6-0 on the road this season with wins over Ontario (2), Dallas, Monterrey, Turlock and Tacoma. San Diego's wins over the Fury and Flash were important even this early in the season for possible playoff positioning. Last year, San Diego had to travel to Mexico for the Western Conference Final after losing to Monterrey in the regular season. CELEBRATING OUR 40th ANNIVERSARY The Sockers are celebrating their 40th anniversary this season. "Legacy of Champions Since 1978" is the slogan to be used during the marketing campaign which features a wide variety of online, game day, apparel and promo giveaway elements. The circular anniversary logo with a ribbon near the bottom incorporates elements from the team's history. The team will wear the iconic 1980s MISL era retro jerseys on January 11 and April 7. SOCKERS INFUSED WITH NEW TALENT THIS SEASON San Diego had a busy off-season acquiring eight new players via trade or free agency for the 2018-19 season.

Ryan’s sports career began in his home state of Washington with the Spokane Shock of the Arena Football League in 2011 and continued for seven seasons, including Spokane’s move to the IFL in 2016.

    ARENA CALIFINO at EL CORAZON Development Plan (D19-00015); Conditional Use Permit (CUP19-00019) & Specific Plan Exceptions Description and Justification November 2020 (rev.) Introduction This application presents a Development Plan and Conditional Use Permit for the proposed development and operation of the arena Califino multi-purpose sports arena and events facility located within the El Corazon Specific Plan area (APN: 162-082-51 ptn). The arena will be a landmark facility for the City of Oceanside and is designed to provide for various sports, recreation, concert and event use opportunities for the community and region. The facility will also serve as the home of the San Diego Sockers professional arena soccer club. The arena is planned on a 5.24-acre site located within the Village Commercial area designated by the El Corazon Specific Plan. The arena Development Plan also incorporates conceptual plans for a parking lot (Consolidated Park 1 Parking / Joint Use Parking Lot) to be located on an approximate 7-acre lot directly west of the arena site within the El Corazon Parks and Recreation District. These plans show conceptual design elements for parking layout, landscape areas, vehicular access and circulation, and pedestrian circulation routes through the parking lot and along adjacent streets. The arena and related parking sites will be located within the eastern portion of the Specific Plan area north of the existing El Corazon Senior Center and the planned Aquatics Center. The site is located east of the existing SoCal Sports Complex soccer fields and parking area. This resubmittal package includes revised plans for the arena facility which allow for a phased build out of interior components and tenant spaces where certain spaces may be completed upon opening of the arena and others improved in the future as arena operations warrant.

    Virgil Lewis, 2013 Hall of Fame Inductee, Coach and Administrator For more than three decades, Virgil Lewis has been a very influential part of the growth of youth soccer in the United States as both a coach and administrator. Many of those close to Lewis will say that his endless pursuit to promote the game is motivated by his immense love of soccer and all it offers. In the 1980s, Lewis served for four years as the President of the New Mexico Youth Soccer Association and acted as the Chair of the US Youth Soccer ODP Boys Committee for two years. In addition to his administrative work, Lewis also became an A-Licensed coach — helping his Thunderbird Soccer Club and Legend teams to a number of New Mexico State Cup titles. Lewis also acted as a head of delegation, team manager and trainer for the U.S. team led by Bob Bradley that traveled to France in the late 1980s. Lewis continued to coach club soccer and once again acted as the head of delegation for another international trip in 1992-93 with the U.S. Under-17 National Team — helping lead the team to the tournament title in France. He later received the honor of acting as the head of delegation for a third time, again with an Under-17 National Team. The squad included players such as Bobby Convey, Landon Donovan and Damarcus Beasley. From 1996-2000, Virgil led the association as President of US Youth Soccer, where he continued to help the organization grow. During his tenure as President, US Youth Soccer acquired sponsorships with major corporations like Tide, Nokia, Chevrolet and adidas.

Randy has over 36 years of experience in the construction industry in South- ern California . He has worked in the San Diego County Water Authority’s Engineer- ing Department for over 15 years providing various levels of support on construction projects. MMTC/Verne Goodwin College Scholarship Applications Coming Soon By Pam Stevens Are you or is someone in your family a graduating high school senior who’s been involved with community service and could use $500 for college next year? Write an essay on volunteering! The 2010 Mira Mesa Town Council / Verne Goodwin Scholarship Awards, named after Mira Mesa’s first Volunteer of the Year, Verne Goodwin, are designed for students who have enjoyed com- munity volunteering. No specific GPA is required. All graduating high school seniors who are Mira Mesa residents are eligible to apply, no matter what high school they attend, as long as they are planning to further their education within the next year through community college, university, or technical school, and have participated in community service. The 2010 MMTC / Verne Goodwin Scholarship application will be posted in April on the Mira Mesa Town Council website, www.miramesatowncouncil.org.
