It spans and reliable network through efficient New South Wales, from the coast to the maintenance, proficient operation of assets western-most areas of the state and from and sensible investment. the Queensland border at the north to the Victorian border at the south. TransGrid’s Role in Supplying Electricity

TransGrid’s network carries bulk electricity from generators through high voltage transmission lines, underground cables and substations. The high voltage electricity is then converted to low voltage electricity suitable for household consumption at substations closer to power users. Distribution networks such as , and deliver electricity through smaller poles and wires to more than 3 million homes and businesses throughout NSW and the ACT.

Northern Telecommunications Link North West Supply Upgrade

The Northern Telecommunications Link Project involves setting The current network supplying the Gunnedah/Narrabri/Moree/ up six new telecommunications sites to connect communication Inverell area requires an upgrade as a result of increased demand systems between TransGrid’s Dumaresq Switching Station near from new mines in the area. TransGrid’s preferred solution is to Dumaresq Valley through to an existing telecommunications pole install new equipment at the Tamworth Substation on Burgmanns on Parrots Nest Road in South Gundurimba. The communication Lane to better manage the flow of electricity for the area and reduce sites will act as a back-up system to remotely operate, protect and the risk of outages. gather data from substations, equipment and transmission lines. This project is under construction and is expected to be completed mid 2015. Transmission Tower Life Extension Works

A number of TransGrid’s transmission towers constructed in the Tamworth Substation 1950’s require significant maintenance work to extend their service life and ensure reliability. Some towers may need to be sand blasted The Tamworth 132kV Substation on Goonoo Goonoo Road is and painted to remove and prevent rust, while others need to be being rebuilt to replace the old substation that has reached the end modernised to improve tower safety and accessibility. This work of its serviceable life. The rebuild aims to ensure the reliability of will be carried out in a number of stages throughout the Northern current and future supply for Northern NSW. Construction on site Region over the coming years. is underway and is aimed to be completed in 2016. The rebuild is contained mostly within the current footprint of the existing substation property.
