CURE International Prayer Guide October/ November 2012

1 CURE Worldwide

Great are the works of the Lord; They are pondered by all who delight in them. Glorious and majestic are his deeds, And his righteousness endures forever. Psalm 111:2-3

Pray for the New Believer in your email who has recently come to Christ through the ministry outreach of CURE. Each hospital has an intercessory prayer group of volunteers that meets weekly. Continue to pray for the impact CURE has on patients, both physically and spiritually.

Afghanistan Praise God for the new Social Work Director, Kelly daSilva, and for the experience and heart she brings to the CURE team in . Kelly comes to CURE from Brazil, but has previously spent significant time working in . Also, continue to praise Him for ongoing provision of our needs and safety.

Pray for wisdom for everyone at CURE Afghanistan as it resumes its social work program in Kabul. In particular, there is a great opportunity for Kelly to minister to many of the female patients including those whose children are born with deformities, those who are suffering from obstetric fistulas and those who have very sick and premature babies fighting for life in the neonatal intensive care unit. Pray also for peace as the USA and other international forces withdraw from Afghanistan. Pray for the staff and the many innocent Afghans being caught up in increasing civil unrest.

Bethlehem Pray as CURE follows the Lord’s leading and continues to explore options in Bethlehem.

Dominican Republic Praise God for Minerva Gomez Santana, a 21-year-old patient who suffered from a severely broken leg due to a motorcycle accident. Due to the generosity of our donors, which greatly supplements our overall expenses, Minerva was asked to pay a nominal fee for her .

Pray for an upcoming mobile clinic at a school called Escuela las Malvinas in northern Santo Domingo. The purpose of the clinic is to identify patients and to increase awareness of our Dominican hospital and the services that it offers. This area is densely populated, and the population consists of people with low resources and very little access to medical attention.

Egypt Praise God that CURE will celebrate its second anniversary at the end of October. Praise Him for using CURE to heal of great number of children in Egypt. Also, praise Him because many families of patients report that CURE is the only organization in Egypt that helps families and children without complications and red tape. 2 Egypt (Continued) Pray that the light of the Gospel would shine brightly in the hospital through the love and care of the staff for the patients and families.

Ethiopia Praise God for CURE’s celebration of the Ethiopian new calendar year. The intercessory prayer team had the opportunity to have an extra time of fasting and prayer during September. CURE is thankful to God for all He has done in the past year.

Pray with the CURE staff in Ethiopia as it commits the ministry of CURE and the people of Ethiopia to His hands at this start of the new year. Pray also for the patients and their families as they are touched by the love of God through our bedside ministry and the distribution of copies of the Bible to those who are able to read.

Honduras Praise God that the staff has the opportunity to show the love of Jesus not only with patients and their families, but with fellow coworkers as well. Pray that this would become a major focus among the staff in the hospital as they work together in the ministry of CURE.

Pray that incoming patients and their parents would be encouraged as they interact with all of the staff of the hospital. Pray for the spiritual, economic and health challenges that they face and that the Lord can give them strength to carry on.

Kenya Praise God for the pastors training in Nakuru in September. The leadership of each of the mobile clinic sites that CURE visits in was in attendance. Mobile clinics offer an opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ beyond the walls of the hospital. With the theme of “Partneship with Vision, Ownership and Mentorship,” the primary purpose of the training was to strategically plan for the future.

Pray that the pastors implement what they learned at the training. Guest speaker Rev. John Mbugua talked about strengthening the partnership between CURE and these pastors so that they can share our mission and vision in their respective communities.

He has caused his wonders to be remembered; The Lord is gracious and compassionate. He provides food for those who fear him; He remembers his covenant forever. He has shown his people the power of his works. Psalm 111:4-6

3 Praise God for Janet Kenesi’s experience at CURE Malawi with her son Henderson who had a leg deformity. Janet rejoiced, “I am very happy to see my son receiving healing and cure to his legs without paying anything at all. This is something to be proud of since I can’t manage to pay the amount of money required for this surgery if I were to pay. May the Lord God Almighty bless the people who have paid for my son’s operation abundantly so that they should continue doing the same to others who are in a condition like this.”

Pray for Edu, a 7-year-old boy who traveled to the hospital in Malawi from to be treated for clubfoot. Pray for Edu and his mother who were rejected by their family when Edu was discovered to have a disability. Pray as Edu heals post-surgery and returns to Mozambique. Pray also that the government would quickly approve and issue renewals for Temporary Employment Purpose (TEP) papers and the corresponding visas to 3 of our expatriate employees.

Some of our hospital employees have also started gardening and brought in some of their vegetables. Praise God for their willingness to share with others and the message of unity this sends.

Pray for the hospital as it undergoes a time of transition. Please pray for the Lehman family as they begin to make preparations for their move to the , and pray for Phillip Adams and his wife, Jennifer, as he transitions into his role as Executive Director in . Both Phillip and Jennifer are fluent in French, one of many gifts that they bring to the ministry of CURE.

Philippines Praise God for the continuing progress that is being made at the Tebow CURE Hospital being built in Davao City.

Pray that all involved in the construction of the hospital would remain safe and be encouraged through their interactions with CURE.

Uganda Praise God that the clinic in Gulu was well attended, including by a number of patients from Sudan. Praise Him that some who were previously led to Christ through the ministry of the spiritual team have been progressing spiritually. Some have found Bible-believing churches and are being discipled.

Pray for those reached at the Katalemwa clinic. Mothers were very excited and encouraged in their faith after they heard the Gospel. Pray that they would be able to connect with local Christian churches.

4 Praise God for Jacob and Phyllis, whose son Lewis was born with clubfeet and a cleft lip. Rather than reject Lewis and blame his wife for the birth deformities, Jacob supported Phyllis when she brought their son to the CURE Zambia hospital, even though his family was urging him to find another wife who could give birth to a “normal” child. Lewis received surgery to correct the clubfeet and cleft lip and now is a “brand new looking boy with a new face and legs on their way to recovery”.

Pray for families like Jacob, Phyllis and Lewis who face not only the tragedy of birth disabilities but also the destructive responses of family and rejection by their friends and neighbors.

CURE Management Services (CMS) Praise God for the many opportunities that are being presented to CMS for both new hospital initiatives and strategic business relationships.

Pray for discernment on which opportunities God is leading CMS to pursue.

Angola Praise God for the two new additions to the senior management team of the Luanda Medical Center, Lenka Tucek (Chief Operating Officer) and Mr. Kobi (Chief Financial Officer) and their ability to bring new focus to the facility.

Pray for the efforts of CMS to finalize the requirements of the international financing partner.

China Praise God for the tireless efforts by Russell Raines and Pennie Gomez in supporting our client in Dalian.

Pray for wisdom and discernment as the next steps with this client are negotiated.

Indonesia Praise God for the ability to be notarized as a foreign entity able to do work in and for meetings with a potential new partner hospital south of Jakarta.

Pray for the finalization of the company’s incorporation in Indonesia and that the meetings to settle the contract with the Kencana hospital occur as scheduled.

United Arab Emirates Praise God for the ongoing operational success of the hospital and the thousands of opportunities it has to touch the lives of so many in the community.

Pray for the many details that need to be completed in order to bring the new hospital “online” over the next several months. CURE International Prayer Guide October/ November 2012
