Simply put, Britt Bonneau is a winner. In 17 years at the helm of ACU baseball, he has taken the Wildcats from a middle-of-the-road into a perennial contender for conference, regional and national titles. Before Bonneau joined the ACU baseball program, the Wildcats had won one conference championship and had never made an NCAA post-season appearance in more than 30 years. Since his arrival as an assistant coach in 1996, ACU fielded one of the most successful baseball programs in NCAA Division II. Bonneau – who became the Wildcats’ head coach at the age of 26 in 1997 – has led ACU to new heights in his 17 seasons as head coach. From 2000-10, the Wildcats captured eight LSC South Division titles (2000-02, 2004-05, 2007, 2009 and 2010), two regular season championships (2008 and 2010) and five LSC Post-Season Tournament titles (2000-02, 2009, and 2010). Brandon Stover has been an integral part of the Wildcats’ baseball program for the past 15 years, first as a player, and now as its assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Stover also serves the club as its hitting coach, third base coach and recruiting coordinator. Since Stover became the Wildcats’ hitting coach in 2007, ACU has produced more than three dozen all-conference honorees in addition to having three players (Mike Elkerson, Jordan Schmitt and Aaron Oliver) named league MVP with two more (Willie Uechi and Tyler Eager) selected as the conference freshman of the year. From 2007-09, Stover helped Schmitt – an all-America catcher – become one of the greatest hitters in Lone Star Conference history. Schmitt finished his career in May 2009 as the LSC and ACU career record-holder in hits (281), RBI (218), doubles (70) and total bases (470). Uechi, a shortstop, eventually surpassed Schmitt as the school and conference all-time leader in hits with 338 during the team’s memorable 50-win season of 2010. That year’s team also set the school’s -season records for runs (548), home runs (67), doubles (145) and total bases (1,124), and matched the record for most hits (730) from 2008. Stover’s more recent success stories include Eager – the LSC freshman of the year in 2012 – and Kyle Giusti, who .358 with 40 RBI en route to being named first team all- conference and all-region honorable mention by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Eager has hit well over .300 in each of his first two years at ACU, and last year’s total of 69 base hits included 18 doubles and six triples. He also finished third in the conference with 52 runs. doubles and accumulated 247 total bases.
