Report to our community April 2019 Your engagement sustains CityClub and strengthens our democracy

Dear friends and supporters, When I joined CityClub in early 2019, I was immediately impressed with the impact this treasured community institution makes on engaging people in civic discourse and encouraging participation in problem-solving. Immediate past Executive Director Diane Douglas masterfully built upon the long-held traditions of Seattle CityClub as a trusted voice for civil, nonpartisan dialogue. We owe her our profound gratitude for her 11 years of service. Over the past year, Seattle CityClub sought out more diverse voices on the most compelling issues of our day. Speakers and discussion at Civic Cocktails informed you. Civic Boot Camps empowered you to delve more deeply into critical issues. Our Annual Forums educated you on emerging civic concerns. The State Debate Coalition enabled you to make wise decisions at the ballot box. Among this broad array of activities, one thing remained constant: Your participation in our programs and your generous donations sustained Seattle CityClub and our mission. As we begin preparing for our 40th anniversary in 2020, we will rely all the more on your support to craft a vision for an even more impactful future. Thank you for sharing our belief that “democracy starts with you” and for supporting our work to build a stronger democracy. In gratitude, Teresa Moore

Executive Director

26 Looking toward the future

On the heels of our tremendous success with statewide candidate debates in 2018, Seattle CityClub is already gearing up to lead the Washington State Debate Coalition as we approach the 2020 general election. Your support will be critical as we bring candidates and voters together across the state.

This coming fall, seven seats will be up for election. We are committed to providing local voters with opportunities to engage with the candidates who will guide our city into the future.

Stay tuned to learn more.

We are a stronger community and a more secure democracy when diverse voices participate in civic discourse. CityClub will continue to seek out innovative ways to partner with organizations that serve people who historically have struggled to be heard as we redouble our efforts to engage marginalized people and communities in civic affairs.

The next generation of leaders are beginning their professional careers today. We must learn more about how we can engage them in the issues that will shape our city, state and nation. We look forward to exploring new avenues to inform and inspire civic engagement among young people.

The civic health of our community relies upon CityClub’s ability to deliver on its mission. With your support, we will do that each and every day. Thank you for standing with us. Seattle CityClub is a nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization improving the civic health of the Puget Sound region by providing programs that bridge politics, sectors and generations to inform and engage residents and community leaders.
