This paper summarizes the ento- mological opus of Ernst Heiss (179 publications between 1969-2006) and lists described (30 genera and subgenera, 160 species and subspecies) and dedicated taxa (14 genera and subgenera, 63 species and sub- species). Beitr. 33/2 1017-1023 30.11.2001 A new species of the flat bug genus Aradus FABRICIUS 1803 from China (Heteroptera, Aradidae) E. HEISS Abstract: Records of Aradus crenatus SAY 1832 reported from China by HSIAO (1964) and LIU (1981) proved to belong to a new species, which is described as Aradus zhengi sp. nov. Related species are Aradus crenatus SAY 1832 (North America), Aradus gretae KIRITSHENKO 1955 (Russian Far East) and Aradus esakii KORMILEV & HEISS 1976 (Japan), of which distinguishing characters are discussed and figured. Key words: Heteroptera, Aradidae, Aradus, new species, China. Introduction The species of the genus Aradus FABRICIUS 1803 occurring in China were first treated by HSIAO (1964), where he reported A. crenatus SAY 1832 from Gansu (NO). Also Liu (1981) included this species in the Chinese fauna of Aradidae and gave an additional record from Hubei (CE) province. HEISS (1980) has shown, that European records reported as A. crenatus belong to A. conspicuus HERRICH SCHAEFFER 1835 or A. inopinus KIRITSHENKO 1955 respectively and the true A. crenatus is a nearctic species. Therefore HEISS (2001) suspected, that the Chinese specimens might belong to a new species, which is now confirmed and described as Aradus zhengi sp. nov. below. Material and Methods Reference material from China, now available, belonging to Tianjin Museum of Natural History, Tianjin, P.R.. of China and the collection of the author, enabled a comparative study of the new species, which is compared with three related species of neighbouring countries. Additional material of Aradus esakii investigated: 26 6 Japan, Honshu, Mt.

(Hemiptera, Heteroptera, Aradidae) Ernst HEISS & Cheryl BARR A b s t r a c t : The known flat bug fauna of continental America North of Mexico comprises 127 species. The genus Aradus is represented by 84 species and Mezira by 10 species (MATSUDA 1977; KORMILEV & FROESCHNER 1987; VASARHELYI 1994; DAVIDOVÁ-VILIMOVÁ et al. 1996). Eleven species of Aradus and one of Mezira were collected in the Sierra Nevada of California by the junior author and William Shepard, using an unusual method by which insects were collected from plant debris gathered by seines from an artificial watercourse. From additional material of the first author’s collection, Aradus ampliatus UHLER, 1876, from Oregon and Washington and Aradus pannosus VAN DUZEE, 1920, from Oregon, represent new state records. Aradus linsleyi USINGER, 1936, a very rare species only known from two females, was among the examined seined material, as well as Aradus patibulus VAN DUZEE which has been reported only twice in the literature since 1936. Photos of the recorded species and figures of male genitalic structures of four taxa are presented, including illustrations of the first known male of Aradus linsleyi. K e y w o r d s : Hemiptera, Heteroptera, Aradidae, new state records, new faunal records, California, USA. Introduction The fauna of Aradidae or flat bugs of America North of Mexico was included in the synonymic list of world Aradidae catalogued by KORMILEV & FROESCHNER 1987. Detailed information for species occurring in continental United States with state records was published by FROESCHNER 1988, and for Canada by MATSUDA 1977.

  • Status Over Danske Barktæger (Heteroptera: Aradidae)
Status over danske barktæger (Heteroptera: Aradidae) Søren Tolsgaard Tolsgaard, S.: Status ofDanish flat bugs (Heteroptera: Aradidae). Ent. Meddr 79:45-56. Copenhagen, Denmark 2011. ISSN 0013-8815. The collection material of flat bugs (Aradidae) found in Denmark has been investigated by the author, and the field activity regarding these bugs has been intensified in recent years. Since the last Danish checklist (Andersen & Gaun, 1974) two species have been recorded as new to the Danish fauna: Aradus brevicollis by Heilovaara & Va.isinen (1983) and Aradus betulinus by Bjerg (2010). The present status adds one new record of the rare species Aradus truncatus, and several records of Aneurus ave nius, A. laevis, Aradus betulae, A. cinnamomeus, A. conspicuus and A. depressus. Earlier recorded species, not found in Denmark during the later decades, ineludes Aradus corticalis and A. brenskei. The Danish material of the latter has been revisited several times (Schlick, 1891; Gyllensvard, 1965; Tamanini, 1972); thus Heiss (2001) assumed that mislabellin g of this, mainly mediterra nian species, must have taken place. Recently though, the species was reported from the Czech Republic (Kment & al., 2003), raising the possibility that the Danish specimens, according to the labels found on two Joealities in Zealand, in 1849 and 1857 respectively, maynot be definitively outruled. The Danish species of flat bugs were recently redlisted (Tolsgaard, 2010) according to the IUCN standards, and the present paper supplies the official redlist with collection notes of all Danish records, including 20 x 20 km UTM maps, showing the known distribution of these species in Denmark. (Insecta: Heteroptera, Aradidae) Synopsis: The species Aradus crenatus SAY 1831, A. cinnamomeus PANZER 1806 and A, lugubris FALLEN 1807 have so far been considered in the literature to be of holarctic distribution. Reconsideration of comparative material from palaearctic and nearctic realms has revealed, that the two first mentioned „species" are represented by different species in the two regions. This leads to the following alterations in the nomenclature. The species common in the USA must be regarded as the true A. crenatus SAY. The name for the species common in western Europe should now be A. conspicuus HERRICH-SCHAEFFER 1835 (crenatus auct. part.). The vicarious species of the latter of southeast Europe to Iran is A. inopinus KIRITSHENKO 1955. Aradus cinnamomeus auct. consists of a complex of three species. Of these, the westpalaearctic species is the true A. cinnamomeus PANZER 1806 and two species occur in the nearctic realm. The form described by PARSHLEY as ssp. antennalis from the western part of the USA an Canada should be called Aradus antennalis PARSHLEY 1922, nov. comb. The second, regarded by PARSHLEY as the nominate form, but which is clearly distinct from the true A.

III. Heteroptera (Insecta: Hemiptera). Biodiversity Data Journal 4: e7607. doi: 10.3897/BDJ.4.e7607 Abstract Background This is the third in a series of papers detailing the terrestrial arthropods collected during an intensive survey of a site near Steel Creek campground along the Buffalo National River in Arkansas. The survey was conducted over a period of eight and a half months using twelve trap types – Malaise traps, canopy traps (upper and lower collector), Lindgren multifunnel traps (black, green, and purple), pan traps (blue, purple, red, white, and yellow), and pitfall traps – and Berlese-Tullgren extraction of leaf litter. New information We provide collection records for 54 species of Heteroptera, 11 of which were new state records for Arkansas: (Aradidae) Aradus approximatus, Aradus duzeei, Aradus ornatus, Neuroctenus elongatus, Neuroctenus pseudonymus, Notapictinus aurivilli; (Cydnidae) Sehirus cinctus; (Lygaeidae) Nysius raphanus; (Miridae) Prepops insitivus; (Reduviidae) Zelus tetracanthus; (Rhyparochromidae) Kolenetrus plenus. © Skvarla M et al. In order to begin to rectify this issue, a nine month study was conducted from mid-March through early December at a 4 ha site at Steel Creek, Buffalo National River, in Newton County, Arkansas.
