Page 1 December 2, 2016 BBC Board and Officers meeting The meeting opened with a message from President Doug Aretz telling us that the BBC had a good year. We discussed the possibility of increasing racing funding by selling tee shirts with Dave Spanjar’s picture on it. There was a discussion of participating in Bike Night in Elm Grove, although it was suggested that July was too busy a month with the Rally going on. August 28th was suggested as a good date. We will be meeting at Team Winnebagoland on Saturday at 1:00 PM-2:30 PM. It was suggested that we need to decrease the death and illness benefits from $125 to $100 and from $75 to $50. We also need to increase the cost of the RIP patches so we are not selling them at a loss. The possibility of raising dues was discussed but not decided on yet. It was also discussed how to help members who have a difficult time covering their dues. No decision reached. A 50-50 raffle was discussed to help pay for health and welfare budget. The possibility of a different type of Rally was discussed, but no decision arrived at. Nominations for new Board of Directors were closed. We need someone to handle plaques for the rally, Pat Hanson was suggested, but Pat is too busy due to his partici- pation in the Bild program. Peggy will send an e-mail looking for volunteers. It was also suggested that we have a suggestion box on the beer trailer at the next rally. Meeting was adjourned and we headed for the bar. Submitted by Jim Ziemann

Denemark, BBC Webmaster

Over the last 50 years, I have had a lot of motorcycles. All kinds, since I came from a family with a lot of boys we had mini-bikes, go carts and a few 50 CC step-thru bikes. My first real motorcycle was a 1964 Honda Super 90, and in the following years I had a bunch of Jap bikes that served me well. The cool biker guys at my high school had Harleys or British bikes, while I was riding Japan-made. Since I was in the auto and metal shop classes with the so-called “greasers” - I got to know them well enough to park my little Honda near their bikes. I really liked the look of the Triumph Bonneville and the BSAs. Unfortunately, at the time I spent most of my money on camera equipment and could not afford a British bike. Fact is, I traded a camera and $25 for my Honda and had to save the rest of my bucks for a car. After high school and thru college, I had six Japan-made bikes from 125CC-350CC I bought a 1976 Honda 550 F Super Sport, which has very similar styling as the Triumph Trident T150V. I road the Honda for over 30 years, and heavily modified and rebuilt it over time. In 1998 I bought a low miles, 1992 Harley Soft Tail and have enjoyed luxury cruising many, many miles. My sporting bike is a 2008 Bonneville T100 that is perfect for a guy my size. Bought that one after a Team Triumph test ride at the 2008 BBC rally and fell in love again. Just had to have it as a modern daily driver. During the 2003 BBC Rally - The year of the TRIPLES. I saw the bike of my dreams. A sweet looking 1974 Triumph Trident T150V caught my eye due to two things. It had the ray gun exhaust, and a For Sale sign on it. I was always a Sci-Fi nut and loved Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon. I chatted with the owner Greg Saurbier, who has won bike show awards at several BBC rally's. He told me what service he did on the bike and noted that it had run The Gap- 129 Dragons Tail in TN several times. We made the deal and I was going home with my first Triumph. After I got it home, I proceeded to detail and replace any worn parts. I put a Boyer Ignition in it. Plus, new cables, tires, seat, rubber parts all around, new paint and side covers, a pedestrian slicer - plus lots of other stuff to make it new. Currently the bike looks like new as in the photos. The story continues forward to 2008. I had spent 6 hours that day detailing every- thing on the Trident for a weekend bike show. On my way home from the shop, a crazy distracted driver cut in front of me from the left lane to go right. My bike T-boned her and I flew over the car onto the ground. I was not too badly hurt because I had all of my safety gear on. The helmet did a fine job to save my brain. I do have some shoulder problems now - but I can live with it. The Triumph's front wheel was folded back to the fork tubes, which broke. Total damage was over $7,000. About six months later the Trident had a whole new front end and was back on the road - thanks to Dale Madsen and his fine work. I think the T150V is very fast. It has great acceleration and sounds so good with the roar of the ray gun exhaust. I love riding it, as it handles very well on all roads and on gravel (better that I expected). My only complaint is the stiff clutch and the heavy

Page 6 (Continued from page 6) springs on the three Amal carbs. I am working on a solution that may work well, based on advice from Doug A and Mark F. Otherwise, this bike has all the looks of a great 70's vintage super bike and is a quick start-up in two kicks, with proper carb tickling. At this point in my life I am very satisfied with the three bikes I have. I like to regularly polish, clean and touch up any blems, which keeps my rides like new. That time is like therapy for me. The Trident is my favorite bike. Its style, good looks and performance make it my choice for first place. I don't think I'll find another classic I would like any better. I may someday sell one of the other bikes and move up to the new Bonneville T120. My riding goal is to put at least 1,000 miles per year on each bike. These days, it's harder to do - but this Old Pecker is working on it. My advice is to wear the GEAR and RIDE SAFE. Watch out for those DISTRACTED drivers on those blasted cell phones.

The Presidential Address January 20, 2017 I am taking the Oath of Office to lead the British Biker Cooperative toward “Greatness Again” for my second year. The new President Elect has done the same thing today for America. Coincidence? I think not. Actually, I think I’ve lost my mind. So what else is new? Actually, there’s lots going on for 2017. The Meeting from Hell is tomorrow, as I write this. We will approve the calendar, take a look at the artwork for the 2017 Rally, The BBC’s 40th Anniversary, make some changes and adjustments to make things work bet- ter, and go in the direction to have some fun. That’s the plan. I would like all of you to join the BBC in that plan. We start out with Mama Tried in Milwaukee; flat track races, bike show, and dare I say this . . . cold weather for ice races. The Marketing Meeting is in March which kick starts the Rally planning into full gear. There are events in April on the calendar but May is when the riding really starts with The Run To The Sun, Brewtown rumble in June, The BBC Rally in July and a host of activities in August, the No Big Deal Picnic in September, The Color Ride in October, The Pot Luck Dinner in November, and the Holiday Party in December . . . The End. How’s that for an overview? But looking over the calendar, there are a lot of riding events which look attractive so I would advise that you go on some of them. After all, isn’t that what were supposed to be about? Then do it. You won’t be able to do everything on the calendar but I hope it gives you some ideas of what is out there for 2017. Just remember one thing; our calendar was made in January. Many things may change that are not in our control. So if you see something in the calendar you want to do, check your choice out, on-line before you do it just in case that activity was changed. (That’s the BBC disclaimer) So, with that being said, have a happy and enjoyable 2017. I hope to see you on the road. Doug Aretz, President British Biker Cooperative

Page 11 BBC Holiday Party December 3, 2016

The first item was the vote for the Board of Directors so that votes could be counted while the meeting progressed. Next, there was a moment of silence for members who passed away this year. Thanks to the current Board of Directors and Happy Birthday to Tom Rasman. Thank you to all our sponsors. 2016 was a quiet year for racing due to Dave’s busy personal schedule. But he promised that he will be racing a larger slate of races for 2017. Pat and Dave’s race bikes will be at the Mama Tried Bike Show in February. We heard a plea for new members. All current Officers were thanked. Member year patches were given out including a 25 year patch to Bob Gomach, a 30 year Patch to Dave Corriveau, and a 35 year patch for Rick Becker. Also included was a 40 year patch for co-founder Bar- ry Snyder, who wasn’t there, but Doug Aretz has promised to track him down and make sure that he gets to the next Rally. The New Member of the Year was given to Jeff Kelley. The Member of the Year Award was given to Jim Ziemann. No Black Cloud award was given this year. Kat Bach won the 50-50 raffle. The new Board of Directors are as follows: Pat Hanson, Marj Inman, Mary Lange, Colette Lendowski, Indian Lendowski, Bill Pluess, Joe Schertzl, and Jim Ziemann. A warm welcome was extended to our newest BBC member, Frank Fritz of American Pickers fame (who unfortunately wasn’t there). On that note the meeting ended. Submitted by Jim Ziemann

Page 13 BBC Meeting from Hell January 21st, 2017 President Doug Aretz welcomed everyone to the meeting. Doug began by letting everyone know that the Rally theme for this year is “Forty Y ears of the British Experience - Long Live the Limey”. This year is also the 50th anniversary of the Triumph Daytona. It was decided not to celebrate the Daytona anniversary this year but postpone it to 2018. (We now have a head start on next year’s MFH.) The artwork for this year’s rally was displayed and discussed. The possibility of having both black and gray t-shirts available was discussed. Raising rally fees was also discussed. Postcard with all rally info needs to be done by February. It was decided by vote to lower the hospitalization check from $75 to $50, with a limit of one check per year. However, if a member is hospitalized more than once they can receive multiple cards. The death benefit was also lowered from $125 to $100, again just once per year. The VP of property reported that the trailer is in storage. The issue of installing brakes on the trailer was discussed and tabled until we see what our financial state is closer to the end of 2017. A new harness for the lights has been purchased but not yet installed. New stakes are required for rally signs and possibly some will need to be repainted. It was decided to remove mention of the average age of BBC members so as not to scare away prospective younger members. Webmaster reported that the web fees are due in April, but will be paid early to give us a reduction in fees. Our Editor reported that the cost of printing and mailing the newsletter is slightly higher than anticipated. Although after the printer is paid for, the unit cost will decrease. The newsletter budget for this year is $390. It was decided to keep the mailing cost of newsletters at the current price of $5. The VP of Product reported that BBC product was sold at 13 different locations last year with sales in excess of $3,500. It was decided to purchase more hats, because they were our best-selling item. Pat Hansen will be organizing the Run to The Sun. Colette, Indian and Doug will be handling the Brewtown Rumble. The Post Rally Ride will again be at Indian’s garage on July 29th, 2017. Pauline and Rudy will be organizing an Eau Claire River Dells Camp and Ride. More information to follow as it becomes available. Jim Ziemann will organize the Pot Luck dinner for this year. Colette and Indian will handle Walnecks. Dave Spanjar talked about the possibility of t-shirts for racing sponsorship. There will also be a mailing for race sponsorship. Bill Pluess won the 50-50 raffle and donated winnings to race sponsorship. The following rally responsibilities were assigned: Bike games Brad, Kevin and Ron. Poker Run, Pauline and Chris. Trailer, Pat Hansen. Marketing, Peggy. Set-up and take down, Pat and Steve Baker. Security, Joe. Beer, Bill. Awards, Doug and Steve Shelvik. 50-50 Pauline and Rich. Band, Indian will be looking for bands. We will be working with Team Triumph to see if they will be doing demo rides again this year. It was agreed again this year that all pets must be leashed. It was discussed and voted that all rally fees will be raised $5. We will be looking into getting a smaller tent and one less port-a-potty. A collection was taken up to help Ken and Pam Mason with their dues. The next meeting will be the Marketing meeting at Peggy and Dan Kasper’s house. Meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Jim Ziemann SR.
