  • Rapid Antigen Testing Units – 3 August 2021
Rapid antigen testing units – 3 August 2021 Based on the decisions of the Council of Ministers, dated 2 and 7 July 2021, and aiming at the suppression of the dispersion of the virus SARS-CoV-2, as of the 9th July, in places where SafePass is required, individuals aged 12 and above must hold one of the following: 1. Certificate of vaccination with at least one dose of the vaccine. A period of three weeks must have elapsed from the day of the administration. 2. Proof that they have been infected with COVID-19 during the last six months. 3. Certificate of a PCR negative test or a negative rapid antigen test result, valid for 72 hours. According to the Ministerial Decision, dated 2 July, as of 1st of August, only the following groups of citizens may be served through the mobile rapid antigen testing units: • Minors up to 17 years old. It is understood that children aged 12-17 who do not have the consent of their parents/legal guardians for vaccination may carry out a rapid test free of charge through the programme of the Ministry of Health. • Persons aged 18 years or over who cannot be vaccinated, provided they possess a medical certificate, and after their request has been examined by the Cyprus Medical Association and the Ministry of Health and has been approved. The approval must be presented to the testing unit. • Pregnant women who are unable for medical reasons to be vaccinated, provided they possess a medical certificate from their Gynaecologists. It is clarified that from 1 to 7 August, pregnant women will be able to present to the testing units a medical certificate from their Gynecologist confirming that vaccination is not recommended.

  • Bird Watching in Cyprus a Brief Guide for Visitors To
BIRD WATCHING IN CYPRUS A BRIEF GUIDE FOR VISITORS TO THE ISLAND 1 Information on Cyprus in general The position of Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean with Turkey to the north, Syria to the east and Egypt to the south, places it on one of the major migration routes in the Mediterranean and makes it a stop off point for many species which pass each year from Europe/Asia to Africa via the Nile Delta. The birds that occur regularly on passage form a large percentage of the ‘Cyprus list’ that currently totals nearly 380 species. Of these only around 50 are resident and around 40 are migrant species that regularly or occasionally breed. The number of birds passing over during the spring and autumn migration periods are impressive, as literally millions of birds pour through Cyprus. Spring migration gets underway in earnest around the middle of March, usually depending on how settled the weather is, and continues into May. A few early arrivals can even be noted in February, especially the swallows, martins and swifts, some wheatears and the Great Spotted Cuckoo Clamator glandarius. Slender-billed Gulls Larus genei and herons can be seen in flocks along the coastline. Each week seems to provide a different species to watch for. The end of March sees Roller Coracias garrulous, Masked Shrike Lanius nubicus, Cretzschmar’s Bunting Emberiza caesia, Black-headed Wagtails Motacilla flava feldegg and Red-rumped Swallows Cecropsis daurica, while on the wetlands Marsh Sandpipers Tringa stagnatilis, Collared Pratincole Glareola pratincola, Spur-winged Vanellus spinosus and Greater Sand Plover Charadrius leschenaultii can be seen.

  • N Cyprus There Are Few If Any Private Gardens That Are Open to the Public, but Most Major Towns Have Municipal Gardens, Which Vary Greatly from Place I to Place
n Cyprus there are few if any private gardens that are open to the public, but most major towns have municipal gardens, which vary greatly from place I to place. Until very recently Cypriot gardens were mainly courtyards with a few herbs in pots and perhaps a grapevine or fig tree for shade during the long hot summer months. Latterly, with more and more Cypriots returning to their homeland from years spent in other countries where gardening is part of the culture, more adventurous plantings have been taking place and landscape gardeners are coming into their own, as people realise how therapeutic a garden can be after the rigours of work. In the valley where I live, amongst the courtyards and tiny planted strips around the houses, there are several gardens of note. In the village of Agia Anna in Larnaca District, there is a wonderful Cacti and Succulent Garden planted out on a rocky hillside. In the next village Psevdas, a garden lover has pruned the trees in his front garden into the most interesting shapes. In the same village two gardens on the main street have been landscaped in a modern style containing very old olive trees, which are such a part of the Cypriot landscape. My own garden in Mosfiloti has a lavender par terre, which has matured over the years. It no longer needs watering other than the rain which falls during the winter months, as the grey leaves protect the plants from the fierce-some sun. Many gardens are hidden away behind courtyard doors. If you are able to peek behind them, you will find some real jewels.
