Belmont Pollagh 1km TULLAMORE Clonbullogue Killina Geashill N80 The Grand Canal Greenway Shannon N52 Blueball Map Legend The Grand Canal Greenway is an historic trail which traverses Leinster from Ringsend in Dublin City to the River Harbour Shannon at Shannon Harbour in County Offaly. Kilcormac N62 Kilcormac Banagher Portarlington The route is punctuated by canal locks, lock houses and industrial architecture from bygone days. The Greenway Ballyboy Grand Canal follows the pleasant canal towpath, which was formally used by powerful draft horses pulling barges laden with N52 Grand Canal Cycleway goods and passengers. The Offaly Grand Canal Greenway stretches from Edenderry in the east to Shannon Harbour in the west of the county. Birr Kinnitty Grand Canal Walkway The Tullamore to Lough Boora Section of the Greenway links two landmark sites along Ireland’s Ancient East - Tullamore DEW and Lough Boora Discovery Park. The 22km journey westwards offers historic sites and rural Lough Boora Walking/Cycle Routes tranquility in abundance. N62 The current stage from Srah Road in Tullamore to Ballycowan Bridge is 3.6km. Route Grading Rail Line Be prepared. Although the route is primarily off-road, you still need to take special care at all road junctions and n o n Purpose Built off-road shared pedestrian and cycleway trail constructed on canal n a canal bridges. There are working farms along the route so take care of farm traffic.     ELEVEN FOLLIES IN COUNTY OFFALY CONDITION SURVEY & MEASURED DRAWINGS October 2013 2 This report was commissioned by Offaly County Council with financial assistance from the Heritage Council to consider the history, significance, condition and conservation of a disparate group of follies and garden building located in County Offaly. The structures range in scale from a pair of small circular stepped plinths, situated in a pond and measuring less than two meters in height, to an impressive eye-catcher rising to over fourteen meters. Most of the structures date from the eighteenth or early nineteenth centuries, and some were designed to provide impressive prospects of the surrounding countryside. Surprisingly, for a county that is generally thought to be flat and boggy, Offaly contains a significant number of hills, on which many of these structures are found. With the exception of one earthwork structure, now heavily overgrown and lacking definition, most of the structures survive in a reasonable state of preservation, albeit often in a poor state of repair. While the primary purpose of this report is to illustrate and describe the significance of these structures, and equally important purpose is to recommend practical ways in which there long term future can be preserved, wither by active conservation or by slowing the current rate of decline.     Lower Shannon (Brosna) Catchment Assessment 2010-2015 (HA 25A) Catchment Science & Management Unit Environmental Protection Agency September 2018 Version no. 3 Preface This document provides a summary of the characterisation outcomes for the water resources of the Lower Shannon (Brosna) Catchment, which have been compiled and assessed by the EPA, with the assistance of local authorities and RPS consultants. The information presented includes status and risk categories of all water bodies, details on protected areas, significant issues, significant pressures, load reduction assessments, recommendations on future investigative assessments, areas for actions and environmental objectives. The characterisation assessments are based on information available to the end of 2015. Additional, more detailed characterisation information is available to public bodies on the EPA WFD Application via the EDEN portal, and more widely on the catchments.ie website. The purpose of this document is to provide an overview of the situation in the catchment and help inform further action and analysis of appropriate measures and management strategies. This document is supported by, and can be read in conjunction with, a series of other documents which provide explanations of the elements it contains: 1.
