Background Utahns are served by a host of state officials, departments, boards, commissions, committees, and judges not to mention various local government units and subunits. Utah state government is extensive, varied, and complex. In fact, it is one of Utah's largest employers, employing over 22,000 persons as of January 2008. This publication includes organization charts for Utah's legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government as well as independent governmental entities. As state government is ever changing, the Office of Legislative Research and General Counsel updates this compilation of charts every two years. The information in this report has been reviewed by the departments and the other major entities and reflects structures as of July 1, 2008. Document Explanation Figure 1 defines the four shapes and two lines used to create the organization charts.
