The next meeting of the 2021 Session will take place via Zoom at 6pm on Wednesday, 14th April 2021 when The Rt Hon Nick Raynsford BA (previously Minister of Housing) will address the Society on

HOUSING AND HEALTH

Nick Raynsford was the Member of Parliament for Greenwich and Woolwich from 1997-2015 (and previously for Greenwich from 1992-1997). He served as a Government Minister from 1997 initially in the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR), holding responsibility for Housing, Planning and Construction as well as being . He was Minister for Local and Regional Government in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister from 2001-2005, also holding responsibility for the Fire and Rescue Service and for Resilience Planning. He was made a Privy Councillor in the 2001 New Year’s Honours. He left the Government in 2005. Nick Raynsford is currently President of the Town and Country Planning Association. He is Chairman of the NHBC Foundation, the Tideway Reporting Group and Heylo Housing RP Ltd. He is Honorary Vice-Chairman of the Construction Industry Council and Chairman of ICAIR (The CIC Approved Inspectors Register). He is a Non- Executive Director of Constructionarium, and serves on the Pocket Living Advisory Board. He is an Hon Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Royal Town Planning Institute, the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Institute of Structural Engineers, the Association of Building Engineers and the Society for the Environment. He is an Hon Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Chartered Institute of Housing.

Nick’s book ‘Substance not Spin’ was published by Policy Press in July 2016.

An exhibition of Nick’s photographs ‘Nick Raynsford on water’ was shown at the Greenwich Gallery in February 2018, and at the U+I offices, Howick Place, London SW1, in April 2018, with proceeds donated to Crisis, the homelessness charity. A further Exhibition ‘Nick Raynsford on Visual Geometry’ was shown at the Greenwich Gallery in February 2019, with proceeds donated to the Greenwich Nightshelter.
