For Immediate Release 12 April 2012 Contact: Cristiano de Lorenzo +44 7500 815 344 / +44 207 389 2283 [email protected] REDISCOVERY CHRISTIE’S TO OFFER THE MOST IMPORTANT BREGUET WATCHES TO COME TO THE MARKET IN A GENERATION To be offered in the Christie's auction of ‘Important Watches’ Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues, Geneva Monday 14 May, at 2pm Geneva - On 14 May 2012 Christie's will offer for sale the most important antique watches by Breguet seen at auction in a generation. Recently-discovered and previously unrecorded publicly, they have surfaced from the private collection of a European noble family and were created by the hands of Abraham- Louis Breguet (1747-1823). The revolutionary master and founder of Breguet only produced some 4,500 pieces during his lifetime, the majority of which are kept in the most prestigious private collections or in museums. The most spectacular example is a gold precision watch with two movements, signed Breguet et Fils, no. 2667, which was sold in August 1814 to a Mr. Garcias of London for the sum of 5,000 francs; the watch is now offered with an estimate of SFr.800,000-1,400,000 (US$890,000-1,600,000 / €670,000-1,200,000); illustrated left and below right. Aurel Bacs, Head of Christie's Watch Department: “It is an extraordinary and rare occasion when a watch created by the legendary Abraham-Louis Breguet comes to the market. Having two Breguet masterpieces considered to be key milestones in the history of horology in the same sale is simply unique.

  • Classique Double Tourbillon 5345Quai De L'horloge
CLASSIQUE DOUBLE TOURBILLON 5345 QUAI DE L’HORLOGE This new model blends mechanical virtuosity with aesthetic mastery: entirely exhibited, the movement reveals two tourbillons that set the whole plate in motion through a central differential. Each component is hand-finished, while the back of the movement is engraved with the “House on the Quai”, the Parisian building where Abraham-Louis Breguet fulfilled his life’s work. The new Classique Double Tourbillon Quai de l’Horloge model houses a monumental movement in the proportions of a watch. Working with very limited space, the Breguet Manufacture has built a complex and harmonious universe that seemingly defies the laws of physics. Like a delicately chased sculpture, the entire exposed mechanism pivots around its axis at the rate of one full turn every 12 hours. It is propelled by two independent tourbillons, which each complete a full rotation per minute. In this way, the interconnected regulating organs perform a double revolution, simultaneously driving the tourbillon bar: the signature hours hand. It is a remarkable display, featuring a number of components made of gold, as were those of grand complication movements back in their day – a tradition that has now been all but lost; one that the House of Breguet endeavors to perpetuate, as it does its specialist artisan techniques. This watch is a stunning display of Breguet’s expert craftsmanship – in particular the engraving on the back, which depicts the house that Abraham-Louis Breguet acquired on Quai de l’Horloge in Paris. The Invention to Endure throughout the Centuries Indeed, it was at this inspiring address, nestled between the artisans of the Ile de la Cité, that the master watchmaker invented the mechanism that would become globally renowned and endure throughout the centuries.

  • Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Ref. 5396 the 22Nd Model for the 20Th Anniversary
Press Release Patek Philippe, Geneva Baselworld 2016 Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Ref. 5396 The 22nd model for the 20th anniversary In 2016, Patek Philippe's patented Annual Calendar, which only needs to be corrected once a year, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, the manufacture has launched a new model of this convenient and user-friendly complication. It is not a limited anniversary edition, but a subtly reworked and refined version that logically complements the 21 previous models that have been presented since 1996, not to mention the eclectic gold and platinum variations with different dial designs. The new Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Ref. 5396 is available in 18K white gold with a dark gray sunburst dial and in 18K rose gold with a silvery white opaline dial. Both models of the Ref. 5396 look familiar yet at the same time appear to be totally new. Familiar because of the style elements that have been appreciated for years, and new because these elements have never before been combined in this way. The first element is the shape of the case with its inimitable Calatrava personality, another beautifully refined facet that dates back to the Ref. 96 in 1932, when the Bauhaus "form follows function" principle was memorialized in horology. Its success was so persuasive that the Calatrava today is deemed the archetype of all classic round watches. In the new Ref. 5396 Annual Calendar, the round of the case also merges gracefully with the strap lugs, and a smoothly polished bezel frames the dial. The sapphire-crystal glass is prominently cambered, endowing the watch with volume and a highly modern look.
