GENERAL INFORMATION: kasur is situated on the north bank of the old bed of connected through Ferozpur road at a distance of about 53 km south east of . The total area of district kasur is 3,995 square kilometers is one of the districts in the province of ,.It came into existence on 1ST July-1976-.Earlier it was part of . Kasur District was created on 01-07-1976 after being detached by Lahore District. District Kasur is divided in three tehsils namely Tehsil Kasur, Tehsil and Tehsil . The District is located along the Indian Border, 55 kilometers south of Lahore and is bounded on the east and southeast by , on the southwest by District Okara and on the northwest by District Shiekhu Pura. The District has an area of 3,995 square kilometers. District is bounded by the River Ravi in the northwest and River Satluj in the southwest. The natural surface is a smooth plane, having a general slope from northeast to southwest and almost whole under cultivation through canals and tube wells.

Prior to devolution, the District had nine ‘urban areas’ three managed by (now defunct) Municipal Committees and six by Town Committees. Kasur, Chunian and Pattoki Towns had Municipal Committees, while Mustafabad, , and Khuddian (in Tehsil Kasur), Kangan Pur (in Tehsil Chunian) and (in Tehsil Pattoki) towns had Town Committees. Under devolution Plan, the rural-urban dichotomy was done away with, and the entire tehsils came under the jurisdiction of the newly formed Tehsil Municipal Administrations.

There are two Tehsil Headquarter Hospitals in the District, located in Chunian and Pattoki. The THQ Hospitals provide emergency services and serve as a referral hospital for RHC’s and BHU’s. THQ Hospital Chunian is 40-bedded hospital while THQ Pattoki is 60-bedded hospitals, which are supplemented by surgical, medical gynecology and pediatric departments. THQ Pattoki is situated on the main Lahore - Road, and caters for substantial road accident emergences also.

There are 12 Rural Health Centers in the District as a whole in which 6 are located in Tehsil Kasur while 3 are located in other two tehsils

CLIMATE: The district has extremes of climate in summer and winter seasons both. The hottest months are May, June and July. The maximum and minimum temperatures range between 40 and 27 degree centigrade respectively. The coldest months are December, January and February. During this period the fluctuate between 20 and 6 centigrade. The average annual rainfall in the district is 52 millimeters.

POPULATION : According to the 1998, census the total population of the district is 23,76,000/- of this 95.4% are , 4.4% are Christians while the rest are Ahmadis , , and schedule castes 22.78% of the lived in urban areas,

The 1998 census records the district population at 2.4 million with an annual growth rate of 2.63%, using this growth rate, the estimated population of the district in year 2006 approximately comes to 3,071,000.

Major tribes and races in kasur district Mayo are 32%, Arian 30%, Jat 10%, others are 28% (Dogar, Ansari , Sheikh and Pathan).

Tehsil Pattoki has thus the highest population density while Chunian has the lowest. HISTORY KASUR CITY: Kasur city was established by 'Kishwar, Kassu or Kishi' son of Ram Chandra whereas his other brother 'Laho' established 'Lahoopur' (Lahore). In this way Lahore and Kasur are twin cities. It is also said that Kasur means city of 'Kasur' i.e. city of palaces because there were too many palaces like forts which are still situated in old city of Kasur. It is further mentioned by the 'Pathans' that they became along with the army of Mughal emperor Babar who gave then Jagir/land in Kasur. Shrine of Baba Bhullay Shah, Baba Kamal Chishti and khawja Daim-ul-Hazoori are also located in Kasur and a large number of pilgrims from the whole country and even from India paid visit to these shrines. In the war of 1965, 1971, citizens of Kasur played a very pivotal role and set an example of bravery. Due to efforts of present government, the district is going on toward developments and so many projects are in progress

FAMOUS PERSONALITY:

(1) was the adopted stage name Allah Wasai (September 21, 1926 -to - December 23, 2000) who was a singer and actress. She is renowned as one of the greatest singers of her time in and was given the honorific title of Mallika-e-Tarranum (the queen of melody).

(11) Khursheed Bano (April 14, 1914 - April 18, 2001) was an Pakistani singer & actress, and a pioneer of the Indian cinema,

(111) Mehr and Sher Ali are Qawwali singers who were born in the Pakistani border-town of Kasur in the early 1950s and received their earlier training in classical music from their father who was a court classical singer at the small Sikh principality of Patiala (now in India). Their father then became the disciple of Fateh Ali Khan, the father of the famous Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and young Sher Ali was the student of Bakhshi Salamat Ali Qawwal. Mehr Ali and Sher Ali thus acknowledge that the family of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is their "Ustad Gharana" or "Teacher House", a term imbued with veneration among musician circles in Pakistan and North India. Mehr Ali was taught by Muhammad Ali Fareedi, an ordained Sufi qawwal of the shrine of the 13th century Sufi, Baba Farid. Their family is a devoti of Sufis like Baba , Shah Hussain and Baba Jyoti Shah.

HISTORY:

The town of Changa Manga is named after two bandits called Changa and Manga, who were active in this area in the eighteenth century. Today, Changa Manga is famous for the largest man-made forest of Pakistan located here. The forest was planned around 1865 as a wood repository to provide cheap fire wood for Steam locomotives running between Karachi, Lahore and Amritsar in the late 19th century,

Located some 70 kilometres south of Lahore in the Chunian district, the forest covers an area of 5,000 hectares (12,510 acres) and is one of the largest of its kind. The planting and irrigation of it took place in the 19th century in the era of the British due to the need for timber for the Indian railway network. Today, it is the source of significant revenue for the state coffers. The thickly wooded forest is also a popular recreational area. Most of the trees belong to the family of species such as acacia nilotica (kikar) or morus alba (mulberry).

GENERAL: Chunnian is an historic city of Punjab, Pakistan. It is located at about 70 km south of Lahore, the Punjab capital. It is the headquarters of a tehsil or revenue sub-division of the same name in Kasur District. The city is administratively subdivided into two Union Councils. The tehsil is known for the Changa Manga forest, the largest single plantation of trees in Pakistan, and the Chunian Industrial Estate, one of the largest concentrations of manufacturing units in the country

The present city is more than 500 years old. Some parts of the city fortification and several of its gates still exist. The city is built on a mound that is believed to be an original Harappan or Indus Valley Civilisation site. There has been little excavation. The last excavation was carried out in 1978 by the Archeology Department, . Among other objects, coins dating back to 's time (c. 323 B.C.) were discovered at the site. A large area of unexcavated mounds extends to the south-west of the city where ancient bricks and shards of pottery can be found on the surface. Popular legend holds that the city has been destroyed nine times in the past. The present name is popularly believed to have been derived from 'Chunni', name of a daughter of Raja Todar Mal, the dewan or revenue minister to Mughal Emperor the Great. Little historical evidence of this belief has been documented. People of nearby villages call the city Chooni in local dialect of Punjabi.

Some important places around Chunian includes Ellah Abad and Gehlan Hithar. Gehlan Hithar is also found to have almost 400 years of rich cultural history
