andy floss pink clouds, shimmering silver skies and the setting Maldivian sun provided the perfect, Cdream-like backdrop for Billie Faiers and Greg Shepherd’s breathtaking wedding last week. When we catch up with Billie the following day, The Mummy Diaries star, 29, describes her big day as ‘like a fairy tale, everything I could have dreamt of and more’, while banker Greg, 32, says: ‘There were so many stresses leading up to the wedding. But on the day, when I saw Billie walking down the aisle, all those melted away. We couldn’t have asked for anything more.’ Greg and Billie – who found fame on The Only Way Is Essex and went on to star in The Mummy Diaries alongside her sister Samantha – have dated for seven years and been engaged for five, so the wedding was a long time coming. ‘We would have got married sooner but we started having kids!’ laughs Greg, referring to the couple’s children, four-year- old Nelly and two-year-old Arthur. When a wedding has been five years in the planning, expectations are understandably high. But Billie and Greg’s week-long extravaganza on the breathtaking island of Kuramathi certainly lived up to

When we catch up with the new Mr and Mrs Shepherd, they are excitedly reminiscing about every little detail. When the 95 guests arrived on Kuramathi three days before the ceremony, they were greeted by traditional Maldivian bongo players and cocktails – Greg’s favourite Manhattans and Billie’s choice of peach Bellinis. Billie had thoughtfully put gifts of personalised flip flops and swimwear in guests’ rooms, while an Indian-themed beach party ensured everyone felt at home on the paradise island in the Indian Ocean. But of course the main event was the wedding itself, and what a wedding it was! ‘So many guests have said it was the best wedding they’ve ever been to and I have to agree,’ laughs the new Mrs Shepherd. The day before the wedding saw Billie and Greg celebrate separately – Greg with a lads’ fishing trip and Billie with a girlie dinner, but both were well behaved and tucked up in bed by 10.30pm. On the morning of March 5, Billie sprang out of bed at 5am in the water villa she was sharing with her mum Sue and sister Sam to check the weather, so anxious had she been about rain stopping play. She needn’t have worried as blue skies reigned and the sun-soaked island looked its best. ‘I almost felt like I didn’t want the wedding day to begin as once it began I knew it would be closer to being over!’ Billie tells us. Billie and Greg had opted to exchange vows on Kuramathi’s sand bank with Greg and his three best men arriving by speed boat, which he says was ‘very James Bond’!

My three best mates, Tom [Roddis], Dave [Whyte] and Sherif [Elsalabi]. I couldn’t choose between them, it was an impossible situation. Your sister Sam was your maid of honour, Billie. Tell us about her dress… My friend Russell Blackburn designed Samantha’s and my mum’s dress – they both looked incredible. Samantha’s was ivory and plunging at the front and back with crystal beads along the straps. The flower girls’ dresses were also made in an ivory tulle covered in 3D flowers with crystal buttons down the back, they were designed by Sophie Garratt. Nelly always thinks she’s itchy in whatever she wears so I’d briefed the designer, but of course when Nelly tried it on, she said it was itchy but she was fine on the day. I always had it in my head I wanted my bridal party to be in whites and ivories – it looked so classy with the scenery.

Tell us about the colour scheme... We went for neutrals, nudes and pale pinks for the flowers and bridesmaids’

The flowers were incredible… Billie: They were amazing, weren’t they? That was one of the things I didn’t have as much control over as I’d have liked, as we had to decide on everything from home. But they were better than I could ever have imagined.

We saw Greg baulk at your proposed £30,000 budget for flowers on The Mummy Diaries, Billie… Greg: They didn’t end up costing anywhere near that amount. That would have been if we’d imported them but we had the island do them in the end.

Was it strange spending the night before the wedding apart? Billie: It was! I had to go to breakfast at a certain time so I didn’t run in to him. I even texted Greg about something on the day and he said he wouldn’t speak to me and that we’d have to communicate via Samantha! had one glass of prosecco to settle my nerves. I wish I’d eaten more than a few bites of toast as my tummy was rumbling when I put my dress on, but the adrenalin got me through to dinner. Greg: My three best men and I had two bottles of champagne while we were getting ready and then I downed two glasses of prosecco before walking up the aisle to settle my nerves. I had a run through of my speech on the morning of the wedding and I was a mess after, so I needed the Dutch courage!

Where did the kids get ready? Billie: They were with family members all day and then they were brought to me at the end of the day to get dressed. It all got a bit frantic when Arthur kicked off and then all the others started crying, too. There were 11 children in the bridal party so it was manic in my room! The kids were the reason I was 30 minutes late, I was ready to go on time but the kids were in tears! Greg just had to put his suit on.

Who were the flower girls and page boys? Greg: My sister Hayley’s children Lola, Albie and Jude Manuel, my sister Ruby’s children, Dixie and Vinnie O’Flynn and my sister Francesca’s son Bertie. Billie: Then Samantha and Paul’s children Paul Jr and Rosie, my auntie Libby’s son Teddy and, of course, Nelly and Arthur.

Were you at all worried when Billie was late, Greg? I did get a bit of a sweat on but I was in a three-piece suit! I know what Billie’s like getting ready for a night out so I knew she’d be a nightmare. It was a relief when she appeared.

How did you feel when you saw Billie? Greg: She looked unbelievable; when I saw ‘SOMANYOFOUR her arrive with her dad I couldn’t believe how beautiful she was. Did the other kids behave themselves on the day? Greg: All of the kids were absolutely brilliant. We’d organised the resort’s kids’ club to entertain them so the adults could let loose.

How did you feel when you were pronounced husband and wife? Billie: It was incredible. Such a relief and such a happy moment. Greg: Walking back down the aisle to Mr Blue Sky with Nelly and Arthur surrounded by everyone who’s important to us was such a great moment.

What happened next? Billie: While Greg and I took photographs, the guests had champagne and cocktails listening to a saxophone player. Then we

all made our way to dinner, washed down with heaps and heaps of Whispering Angel rosé! Greg: The menu was prawns and scallops or feta salad then steak or red mullet for mains. Billie: I only managed to eat a few bits of toast all day so I really tucked into the wedding food!

Tell us about the cake… Billie: We went for a naked, rustic-looking white chocolate ganache and raspberry jam cake covered in fresh flowers made by the pâtisserie chef on the island. I wanted to have fresh strawberries, but they were out of season, so we went for raspberries instead. Greg: I don’t think I’ve ever actually eaten cake at any wedding I’ve been to. It’s more for the pictures isn’t it?

Your dad looked so nervous doing his speech, Billie… He was, bless him. Samantha helped him on to the stage to support him as he was shaking! He wanted to keep it short and sweet.

Were you worried about Greg’s speech? I wasn’t worried, I always thought he’d have a little bit of a banter but it was very sweet. I was actually very impressed, wasn’t I, Greg? Greg: Once I got up on that stage I didn’t want to get off! It was also important to me to pay tribute to Billie’s bum. As I said, it’s the best in the business! She’d been working on a Greatest Showman routine for a couple of months and then a week or so before the big day she came into our room and said: ‘Mummy, Daddy, just so you know I want to sing more than one song at the wedding. Love you, bye.’ She loves to perform but on the day I guess she just didn’t feel like it. She did do a speech, though!

What did she say? Billie: ‘I love my mummy and daddy so much, I’m so happy to be here.’ And then at the end she proposed a toast, saying: ‘All Mummy’s friends get your prosecco, and all Daddy’s friends get your vodka.’ It was

Were you upset by reports that your stepdad Dave was too drunk to board his flight out to the wedding, Billie? At first, yes. But we sorted it and got him another flight within a couple of hours. My dad is a very, very nervous flyer and he’d mistimed when to take his sleeping tablets. Then he got a bit overexcited and had a few wines at the airport and couldn’t board the flight. He felt awful. When he arrived he was really emotional about it.

After being shown some of the worst properties they were then taken to the other side of the street to see houses that have been bought and upgraded by the council. Sitting down for a chat in one of the renovated properties with resident Christina Jackson, William and Kate heard how she lost a £2,000 deposit after renting a property from a private landlord. ‘You never had any contact or feedback? No response? No help? It must have been very frustrating and very depressing for you to deal with that,’ William sympathised. He went on to compliment her home, telling her: ‘It seems really nice here.’ Christina, 59, said afterwards: ‘They said the house is absolutely lovely. They’re so down to earth, they really got it. Tell us about your latest collection with Very… I’m so excited to be launching my new spring collection with Very. There’s a great mix of prints mixed with paired pieces allowing you to create the perfect capsule spring wardrobe. I’m also launching my first jewellery With collection for husband Very which I’m Mark Wright excited about!

What’s your favourite piece from the collection? I love the polka dot dress [facing page]. It’s such a statement piece and I can’t wait to wear it over As Georgie the summer. Lane in I also love Our Girl the black and white stripe co-ord as you can easily dress it up or down with my accessories.

Who do you think looked great at the Oscars? For me it was really refreshing to see so much colour on the red carpet for the Oscars, in particular lots of pink. Who do you think is the best dressed at the moment? I love Gigi Hadid’s style. She always looks so effortlessly cool and has great taste!

What are the key trends for this spring? I love the safari prints and a pop of colour. Anything desert that you could be wearing in South Africa has me sold. I’m obsessed with jumpsuits, they’re so flattering on every shape and make me feel so confident.
