ETERNITY
I pray that peace & grace is abundantly yours through God our Father, Jesus Christ our King & Savior & the Holy Spirit our guide. When I was young the thought of eternity frightened me. I heard the word when, at the receptive age of 8, I had accompanied a friend & her family to their church. Eternity???? This concept seemed unworldly & definitely left me in unfamiliar territory. How could a person live for an eternity? Where is eternity anyway? What would a person do for an eternity? This unknown concept left me feeling frightened & uneasy. I didn’t know much about God at that time so was overwhelmed with the possible scenario of eternity. I didn’t hear much of the sermon because I was plunged in visions of being stranded by myself within the wispy tentacles of stars that trailed off on the outer edges of our galaxy. Was it possible that eternity wasn’t even in our own galaxy, but instead it was light-years away in a different galaxy altogether? I eventually did hear the Preacher say that Jesus went to build a place for us in His Father’s mansions; maybe that was where eternity was? The space age was just coming into its own so other than pictures in books showing the universe I had no idea which way eternity was. GPS systems, as we know them now, didn’t exist at the time. Even if it had, the Preacher definitely didn’t provide an address that I could put to calculate the location. I’m sure there may have been a lot of “recalculating” comments going on as a person drifted thru space. As I grew older & wiser in the ways of the Lord, I realized that God had wonderful plans for mankind when He created us. He also had “contingency plans” which saved us from the evil that entered the world. I realized that eternity was a gift from our loving Creator & there was nothing to be fearful of. Anywhere God was would be safe, secure & filled with love. Fortunately, we don’t have to follow the directions like the ones given by Peter Pan to Wendy & her brothers Michael & John on how to get to Neverland: “fly to the North star, take the second star on the right & continue straight on ‘till morning.” Our directions are given by God. To get to this glorious eternal gift we only have to accept Jesus Christ as our Savior & live righteously. We will be led by God’s angels to our eternal life with Him & our loved ones.
There is nothing to fear & everything to look forward to. Rev 21:3-7 - 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them 4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” 5 And, He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” 6 Then He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. 7 He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son.”
Be joyful & thank God for eternity! We are abundantly blessed & have nothing to fear. Embrace eternity and all that God has in store for our future with Him.
