Twelve months ago Semple Stadium was in the process of disentangling itself from a web of official communications concerning Planning Permission. Today it is a transformed Stadium thanks to our efficient contractors Messrs Duggan Bros, to you who have subscribed generously to our ten year ticket scheme but above all to an energetic, competent and efficient leader. Fr Pierce Duggan, ce. We are proud of this Stadium. It is the centre point of Gaelic activitY in all Tipperary, I ask you to support its future fund raising activities, especially to ~ontribute to its efforts today in the draw for a beautiful Fiat X.19 car. The success story of the year has been that of our County Minor Hurling' Team. They stormed through Munster and with some of their players involved in today's final I am looking forward to a game indicative of future success. The display of our Senior Hurlers against Cork was very disappointing. I still believe they played well below their capabilities, and lets hope that the meeting of Kilruane and Aoscrea in today's Senior Final will show us players of a calibre to take their place on any Inter·County team. We were all proud to see (Tipperary) the blue and gold back in Croke Perk on All-Ireland Day and to be part of that great Festival of the Gael. It must be a great thrill, too, for the minor hurlers of Cashel and Sarsfields to take the field on County Final Day in famed Semple Stadium. Tom Semple would be proud of the young men in their blue jerseys, keeping up the great traditions of the past, forerunners of the senior teams to come, and hurlers yearning to put Sarsfields, "the blues" back at the very top again. Cashel King Cormacs, descended from the blood of Kings and great hurlers, have always been to the fore in wielding the stout caman and have made a big impact on Tipperary hurling in the past decades. Those two great urban teams have found their inspiration in the Christian Brothers Schools. These nurseries have produced hurlers, in spite of alien influences and other degenerate distractions. Those boys were lucky, also, to have attended Primary Schools, urban and rural, where Brothers and Teachers spent long difficult hours training and coaching them in the skills and discipline of the game. Deanaim oomhgairdeas leis na buachaillf that have made the grade and have made sacrifices so that they may be worthy to don their club colours. They are a credit to their mentors, trainers and supporters. We hope that those young men will never discredit them or sully the Sean Treacy Cup by consuming alcohol from it that will debase their noble bodies in the eyes of noble men. 26 TlOBRAIO ARANN - ALL-IRELANO UNDER 21 HURLING CHAMPIONS Front row- Michael Murphy, PlI MeG.,1h, P.t FoJt, Joe O'Dwver, Philip Kennedy, Mick RY'n, AUdin Bucklev. We take this opportunity of thanking all those people who are doing so much for juveniles, Minors and for youth- the parents who encourage them to play the game who have brought along young boys and girls to see this great spectacle of sport; the teachers, men and women, in the many rural schools, our secondary and vocational schools etc. Enough mention has not been made of the magnificent work being done by that great youth organisation- Bord na nOg. Here we have a body of men (and women), shUnning the limelight, (so loved by so many). dedicating their lives to the pro motion of our Gaelic games, instilling the love of hurling in the youth of T ipperary, spending their time, their energy and their money in laying the foundation for great county finals, great Munster finals and All-Ireland victories. It is, without doubt, among Bord na nOg, we find Tipperary's most dedicated, knowledgable, educated and sincere men and women. They are in it for what they ca n give to the game and to youth. Today is their day of glory, too. To our minors we say: "You are the men to whom we are looking forward to bring more honour and honours to the Premier County- on and off the field. Prepare yourselves for this great task. May the winning team produce a Captain that will bring back, in 1981, the All-Ireland Cup as our County Minors have done in 1980.
