OVERVIEW In July 2021

• Extreme weather events in July led to the occurrence of the natural disasters like drought, floods and hailstorms in Uganda and human activities also played a big role in the fire outbreaks reported. • Drought was reported in the Teso region, flash floods continued to ravage the Rwenzori region in as river Nyamwamba burst its banks, district received heavy rains that caused destructive hailstorms while and Rubirizi were hit by fire outbreaks that destroyed houses and caused severe injuries. • On the reporting period, persons affected by disasters totalled to 38,345 and these were from 6,666 households (44% Male and 56% Female). • 199 individuals were internally displaced (IDPs) from 40 households, and August 2021 this was due to flooding. Rainfall forecast • Three (3) were identified as Persons with Specific Needs (PSNs). • From the Rapid Needs Assessment done, it was noted that there is great need for water supply, sanitation, health services, food assistance, NFIs, livelihood and child protection, among others. • The June, July, August (JJA) period is normally dry season over most parts of Southwestern, Central, Lake Victoria basin and parts of Eastern region but a continuation of rainy season for northern Uganda.

Cumulative in 2021 • As per the reporting date, a total of 186,525 persons from 27,629 Households have been affected Drought, floods, landslides, hailstorms and fire outbreaks in Uganda from January to 1st of August 2021. • Reported affected IDPs still total to 18,715 individuals from 3,112 households. • A total of 240 persons from 183 households were persons with specific needs (PSN).
