Ontario Junior Lacrosse League | 2021 Season 1 ABOUT the OJLL 2021 Media Guide @TheOJLL OntarioJuniorLacrosse.com Ontario Junior Lacrosse League | 2021 Season 1 ABOUT THE OJLL The Ontario Junior Lacrosse League (OJLL) is the premiere junior men’s box lacrosse league in Ontario. Sanctioned by the Ontario Lacrosse Association and Lacrosse Canada, the Ontario Champion is annually awarded the Iroquois Trophy and moves on to compete against teams from Alberta and British Columbia for the Minto Cup, the Junior “A” National Box Lacrosse Championship of Canada. The OJLL is the number one source for talent for the National Lacrosse League (NLL), Commissioner the largest and most successful professional lacrosse property in the world. Since the Mark Grimes first NLL draft in 1996, sixteen OJLL alumni have been selected first overall. The league was officially incorporated in 1933, however, the Iroquois Trophy dates back to 1901. Until 1975 the trophy was awarded to Ontario’s regular season Website champion. He has championed several projects aimed at boosting the profile of sports in the city, and serves on many sports related boards—including the Hockey Hall of Fame Board of Directors and the FIFA World Cup United Bid Task Force—Grimes is considered Toronto’s sports Councillor. Grimes has an outstanding track record and a passion for ensuring Toronto is a destination for the international sports community. He brought the concept of BMO Field to Exhibition Place and led the charge to have it built on budget and on time for the FIFA Under 20 World Cup in 2007. As Chair of the Exhibition Place Board of Governors, Grimes worked closely with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) to open the Toronto Raptors new practice facility, OVO Athletic Centre in 2016. He was appointed chair of Toronto’s 2015 Pan and Parapan American Games Secretariat, the largest multi-sport event ever held in Canada. In 2014, he moved the motion that kick-started the process to bring the FIFA World Cup to North America—and recently worked with international partners in the United States and Mexico, the Canadian Soccer Association, and Toronto FC to put together the United 2026 winning bid. The PGA of America honoured Grimes in 2013 for his efforts towards making the PGA Championship at Oak Hill a huge success. Highly regarded for his commitment to community sports and a range of charitable causes, Grimes has coached lacrosse, hockey, and baseball, and served on many community boards. He served on the Mimico Jr. B Mountaineers executive as the Director of Marketing in the mid 90s and was an integral part of the 1997 Founders Cup Host Committee, planning the celebrity dinner, and eventually the 1998 OLA Celebrity Game—an event Grimes intends to bring back for Ontario Lacrosse. Grimes and his wife Anne raised their five children in Mimico. They spent over 28 summers like most lacrosse families, traveling across Ontario to watch their children play lacrosse, and look forward to doing it again with their grandchildren, JD and Brodie. He is a two-sport athlete who most recently captured the 2019 Canadian Field Lacrosse National Championship as a member of Team Ontario U18, and was drafted into the OHL by the Saginaw Spirit. He is known for being a hard-working and coachable player, and is recognized by teams in both lacrosse and hockey for being a leader on and off the playing surface. Jack has played competitive box and field lacrosse for over a decade, and is considered a strong face-off specialist with an 86% win percentage at the 2019 National Championship, which places him in the #1 ranked position among 2004’s in Canada. The Canadian Lacrosse Athletics in the early 1990’s; winning two Minto Cups in 1990 and 1991 before Hall of Fame, the Victoria Sports Hall of Fame, the new Coquitlam Sports Hall moving west to Victoria. Leies was known for his flamboyant offensive abilities of Fame and the BC Sports Hall of Fame honoured eight lacrosse people and two and was a talented scorer. In 13 Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) seasons teams from BC. for the Shamrocks he was selected an all-star 5 consecutive seasons from 1994 to 1997 taking WLA MVP honours in 1996. Tyson played in four Mann Cups The Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame held their induction ceremony November winning three rings in 1997, 1999 and 2003. In 336 WLA regular season and 13 in Burnaby’s Firefighter’s Club.
