Many ears have heard your voice. Many minds have been opened To knowledge and the power of choice. You graced the classroom With your sweet smile. You graced many lives By going the extra mile. Your friends, Suzanne and Fred Wood Photo submitted by Caroline Wilson 10 Frontage Road 11 A Tribute to Harry Nancy Boyd When we were young and very energetic, Just getting started in our teaching careers At Cleveland State Community College, The word came down That to be tenured and thus keep our jobs, Faculty members must have an EdS Or at least 45 hours above the masters. So off to UTK we went, Up the road many times, To take more graduate courses So we might keep our classes at Cleveland State. We went to Niota and other towns and cities around, To meet with other folks With exactly our same ambition and in our same condition, Degree’d, but not high enough. So for two years for Harry and three for me, We toiled, studied, wrote papers, and taught, Put many miles on our vehicles, All so we could graduate from UTK With that higher degree And keep our jobs at Cleveland State. As time marched on, there was the rush each term For students to sign up for Comp classes With the pleasant guy who wore glasses. His voice was always calm, His smile was always bright and beautiful, His laid-back, easy-going way made him nice to have around, His talent as a musician was great, including that nice bass sound in choir. Much too soon all this is gone, But the wonderful memories linger in our hearts and minds, Of that great guy who left us behind. I’ve showed you all I can. If I prayed day and night for you to grasp deep inside, beyond the comprehension of your being, could you then? If I could take your life and recreate it as my own, breathe your every breath for you, could you then? If I could take you forth and show you the hour of your death, raise you up and call your name and with it comes your life, could you then? Defy the laws of this world, belittle your greatest self righteous thought, control the impossible, disturb your subconscious mind through what you know and gave it to you… You still wouldn’t understand me. Through the truth is how breath is given… Love is the master to whom I call accepting... Through his passion is how the world is taken… So that I might walk freely unto him with no chains to pull me… Beautiful is the unseen fingers… From which I am sculpted. Beauty so great, it creates without touch… Pure is the purpose, of the shame that you see… Eyes will not look toward you in fear that you might see through me… Whole is the expectation from which I hope to become... Through my prayers and thoughts this which I might achieve… All in one falling and rising, without any given direction, spiraling not down without up, nor left without right… The dreams expanding so that I may acknowledge who you are… To whom and where ever you might be… God…Father? 13 Frontage Road 11 Love for Your Foe Chad Ehlers He was anger and pride that walked with his head held high. High enough to look down upon us… As I dropped to my knees and prayed to my father he stared with eyes glazed of hate… Hastily he walked toward me with steps showing his superiority… He yells at me, to step up to my feet… So I pray on… Voice growing louder he speaks What fool prays to a God who watches him suffer… I tell him my suffering is mine and I will never be ashamed of the God I serve nor the suffering I bare.
